Skoda Kodiaq Highlights
SUVs are possibly the best cars money can buy, here in India – given the unforgiving conditions of our roads. There's been a steady growth in the premium SUV segment – even if it meant shelling out 30-35 lakh rupees. So now, with the Kodiaq, Skoda wants to have a shot at the premium SUV segment with its latest sever-seater that brings a very premium offering with German build quality and fit-and-finish. As a result, the Skoda Kodiaq price is amongst the highest in the segment.
Skodas have started to look very interesting of late. There are lots of sharp lines on the Kodiaq. Its rather distinctive design language makes it stand, and can't be mistaken for anything but a Skoda. Up-front, the sleek LED headlamps look brilliant, the butterfly grille is quintessentially Skoda and that bold crease running along either side of the SUV give it a masculine, yet elegant stance. Also, those beautifully shaped tail lamps at the rear are very attractive. All in all, all the beautifications justify the high-rent Skoda Kodiaq on-road price.
The Skoda Kodiaq variants are as follows: Style 2.0 TDI AT, Scout 2.0 TDI AT and Laurin & Klement 2.0 TDI AT. Features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone climate control, electric front seats with memory function, ambient lighting, all-around parking sensors with reversing camera, cornering lights, a panoramic sunroof, Canton sound system, two Skoda umbrellas with one-touch operation, among other goodies. On the safety front, it gets IBUZZ fatigue alert, 9 airbags, hands-free parking and a 360-degree surrounding area view.
The dashboard boasts of a very clean and uncluttered design. The vertically-stacked design with the grey finish in the centre looks classy, and the levels of fit and finish, and quality of plastic are right up there with the best. And the faux-wood finish on the second glovebox looks rather nice. In the second row, there is ample room and the seats are comfortable, well-bolstered even. There's also good lumbar support on offer for the front seats. Push the third row of seats down, and you'll have a total of 630 litres of capacity for your luggage.
Engine Specifications & Performance
Under the bonnet of the Skoda Kodiaq new model sits a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 148bhp and 340Nm of torque. Paired to the engine is a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The engine is impressively refined, with very little clatter seeping into the cabin, and the engine doesn't feel like it is lacking grunt. The gearbox, on the other hand, is very efficient and adds to the joy of driving the Kodiaq within city limits. It gets different driving modes too: Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow and Individual. The suspension, although a bit on the firm side, seem to soak up ruts pretty well, while the handling is pretty impressionable too. The SUV feels stable and within control for the most part.
The Skoda Kodiaq's ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is rated at 16.25kmpl for all diesel variants.
