I am not going to lie; it is a lot of fun to test mass-market two-wheelers at the ragged edge of their performance potential. It’s addictive, even. But sometimes, it misses the entire point of how they are meant to be experienced in the first place. You see, when we get our hands on these new products during our (often) brief first ride experience, there’s not a lot of time at hand and we need to come up with as precise an impression as possible within that time frame. As a result, the quickest way to achieve this is to go all-out and find their limit to get a good understanding of how the product has been engineered and whether it manages to deliver on its promised goals or intented use. As for the TVS Jupiter from our long-term test fleet, though, I am more than stoked to take it slowly.
It’s been a couple of months with the scooter by now. While it is great to ride – and surprisingly impressive – at the limit, it has mostly been used for quick commutes around the vicinity of my home during the past month. And since I found myself not chasing metrics like cornering abilities, I had time to appreciate things like the large under seat storage which made grocery shopping a breeze. And surprisingly, something that I look forward to at the end of the day. 
The 113.3cc engine feels at ease at cruising speeds and as such, taking the long way home has happened more times than I care to count. Speaking of which, the scooter comes with an array of connected tech but honestly, I have had no interest in checking it out just yet. I understand that it could be important for some, so I’ll keep the next report focused on that.
What I did like though, was the follow-me-home feature which, in simple words, means that the headlamps stay on for a bit even after turning off ignition to light your way home from the parking spot. The other convenience highlight is the positioning of the fuel filler cap. It’s not under the seat or at the back of the scooter, but next to you on the left of the inside-apron. This means you don’t have to get off the scooter while refuelling but keep in mind that the operator at the fuel pump has an easier time if he/she is on your left, otherwise there could be an awkward moment of them wiggling their way around to place the nozzle across your laps. Don’t ask me how I know.
But everything aside, the Jupiter continues to impress. I didn’t imagine I would want to spend that few minutes more after a grocery run on a family scooter but here we are. TVS Jupiter 110 Long Term Review: Month 2 - Milking It

While it is great to ride – and surprisingly impressive – at the limit, it has mostly been used for quick commutes around the vicinity of my home during the past month.

Making the right smartphone is always a challenge, especially when trying to meet the ever-evolving demands of users on a tight budget. In today’s world of feature-packed devices, offering the most value for the least money has become something of a lost art, as smartphone prices continue to rise. But Lava has bucked that trend with a new offering – the Shark 5G – priced at just Rs 7,999. And while that price might make you assume the basics have been compromised, that’s far from the case

The biggest surprise is the inclusion of 5G connectivity, a feature rarely seen in this price segment. Even more impressive is the phone’s 6.75-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, which offers a smoother user experience than many of its budget peers. Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery that easily delivered a full day of usage during our testing.

In the box, you get a 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, and a clear protective case – a nice touch at this price. The phone itself supports up to 18W fast charging, which, while not blazing fast, is respectable for the category.

The Shark is powered by the UNISOC T765 chipset, paired with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM. Interestingly, Lava has also included a RAM expansion feature that adds an additional 4GB of virtual memory, bringing the total up to 8GB for smoother multitasking. On the storage front, you get 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB via microSD card.

What stood out most to me was the clean, bloatware-free UI. As someone who appreciates the stock Android experience, it’s refreshing to see it make its way to a phone in this price range, untouched and functional. This, coupled with the high refresh rate screen that I mentioned earlier, come together to give an impressive user experience. There’s no bloatware to slow things to down and as a result, you get to have stutter-free animations – something that you can experience and appreciate in all its glory thanks to the screen refresh rate being high. The result of this combination of features goes beyond the spec sheet and you really have to use the phone to understand what I am on about. Another standout feature is Lava’s home service support – a rare and thoughtful inclusion at this price point.

Design-wise, the phone is sleek and well-built, and while the rear camera module might remind you of more premium devices, the overall look feels polished. You get a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. To be direct, the camera performance is decent at best, but it meets expectations for this price category. There’s a Pro Mode and other camera features that are worth exploring if you want to experiment and get more out of your shots. Between photography and videography, it is the former that manages to stand out more thanks to good image processing done by the phone. The images don’t need to be retouched after clicking as they are good enough from the get go.

And yes, for those who still value wired audio, the 3.5mm headphone jack is present –though headphones are not included in the box. Still, at this price, that’s hardly a complaint.

Now, all of this comes at a price of just under Rs 8,000, and at that price point, it’s hard to ask for more. It even has the IP54 dust and water resistance rating for crying out loud! A clean stock Android experience, thoughtful design, 5G connectivity, and a 90Hz display all come together to offer an experience that goes beyond its price tag.

To sum it up, Lava has done the unthinkable by delivering exceptional value without cutting corners where it matters most. Without a doubt, the Shark 5G is the new budget king in town.

The time has come. The Jeep Grand Cherokee must return home after spending three months with us. Ever since I got the keys to this hulking SUV, I’ve been absolutely smitten. To be honest, it’s been a journey of highs and lows, but one that I’ll always remember. Let’s start with the highs, and perhaps the Grand Cherokee’s biggest strength – its road presence. Wherever it goes, it commands attention. Some wonder why the Compass / Meridian look has been dialled up to 11, while others stare in shock and awe. Side note: while not everyone turns back to look at this massive white SUV, it certainly attracts the attention of Fortuner, Scorpio, and Thar owners!
 Another highlight is the ride quality. The Grand Cherokee effortlessly handles road undulations and potholes, remaining unfazed by bad surfaces, even at highway speeds. However, over large speed bumps, this softly sprung, colossal SUV makes its size and weight felt.
Being a Jeep, it naturally excels in off-roading. With multiple drive modes, the 4x4 system gives you the confidence to take it anywhere. For me, though, most of my time with it was spent on city roads, with a bit of highway driving thrown in – the very conditions where a car like this spends most of its time. And in that context, one notable point is fuel efficiency. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t shy away from sipping fuel by the bucket, averaging about 6 km/l during our time with the car.
Where the lows emerge, however, is in the fit and finish. For a price tag of `67.50 lakh (ex-showroom), it competes with the Germans, who, in terms of price-to-luxury ratio, seem to offer a better deal. The most surprising issue came during heavy rains – which only occurred in the final days of our review – when the Jeep started leaking water into the cabin. This is simply unacceptable. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt since it was a press car, used far more intensively than a customer vehicle would be, but it was still shocking.
To sum it up, the Grand Cherokee may have left a bitter taste in its final days, but I’ll remember it for the sweet memories we made along the way. In terms of car-to-price ratio – a metric that resonates with many Indian customers – the Jeep Grand Cherokee hits the sweet spot. It’s a gentle giant, capable of impressive energy and capabilities when called upon, yet it prefers to stay calm and composed, blending in with the crowd. Jeep Grand Cherokee Long Term Review, May 2025 Report

To sum it up, the Jeep Grand Cherokee may have left a bitter taste in its final days, but I’ll remember it for the sweet memories we made along the way.

When I heard that TVS was sending the Jupiter to join our long-term test fleet, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to grab its keys. In the world of two-wheelers – especially scooters – there aren’t many products that truly push the boundaries. To put it simply, the scooter market seems to be dominated by electric vehicles, while the traditional family scooter segment feels rather stale. It’s as if there’s an invisible rulebook everyone follows, and as a result, there is a lack of excitement. Scooters are updated infrequently and often undergo incremental changes, making them more of an evolution than a revolution. When rumours of a new TVS Jupiter started circulating before its launch, many expected the company to stick to the same old formula. But as we’ve all discovered, TVS hit it out of the park with this one.
Don’t get me wrong, the Jupiter doesn’t bring a radical shift to the market. But it excels in its evolution, so much so that every scooter manufacturer in India should take note. First, let’s talk about the design. The scooter feels fresh, modern, and minimalistic, yet it doesn’t venture too far from the conventional design. To me, the Jupiter strikes the perfect balance between contemporary and timeless. The same can be said about its riding performance. At a calm and leisurely pace, the Jupiter is perfectly content to cruise along without demanding attention, allowing you to enjoy the journey at a relaxed pace. However, give it some gas, and TVS’ expertise in chassis and suspension tuning becomes immediately apparent. Yes, the scooter does get a bit noisy and slightly vibey, but it’s more than willing to keep up with your spirited inputs. So much so that you’ll eventually glance at the all-digital instrument cluster and think, ‘Wow… that’s fast!’
At no point does the 113cc engine feel overstressed; it comfortably cruises at 80 km/h all day, making it more than capable for long stretches of open road. In bumper-to-bumper traffic, the scooter’s nimbleness and agility are a welcome feature. As a practical scooter, it offers ample under-seat storage, and the silent start ensures it’s gentle on the neighbours. The long seat makes riding with two passengers effortless, and the front disc brake provides solid bite, though it lacks significant feedback.
Overall, my first impressions of the new Jupiter have been fantastic. I absolutely love it, and I now find myself looking for excuses to take it for a quick spin whenever possible. Suffice it to say, the urge to rack up mileage on the Jupiter is very real. TVS Jupiter 110 Long Term Review: Month 1 - Happy Balance!

When rumours of a new TVS Jupiter started circulating before its launch, many expected the company to stick to the same old formula. But as we’ve all discovered, TVS hit it out of the park with this one.

‘Oh my word, what in the world is that?!’ Has been the theme of the month for me. You see, our Founder and Editor-in-chief Dhruv Behl was kind enough to let me borrow the Jeep Grand Cherokee from our long-term test fleet for the last month. And ever since, even after over 700km clocked with the Jeeper, I still cannot get over the incredible presence this monolithic SUV has. In many ways, especially since we are a lot more used to seeing the Jeep Compass and the Jeep Meridian on the roads, the Grand Cherokee manages to go under the radar. But as it comes close, be it in your peripheral vision or your rear view mirror, it dawns upon people - this isn’t just any other Jeep, it is the ‘Grand’ daddy of them all! 
Incredibly, though, the same surprises me even after all this time spent with the car. Just the other day, I went to the local market to buy some groceries. I parked the car without a second thought, actively remembering the list of items that I need to purchase - a tough task, seriously - and went on about my day. It was only while returning back to the car that I saw it towering over pretty much every single car that was parked alongside it! You would think that I would get used to this sight but no, the jaw keeps dropping every now and then.
It’s been the same even inside the car. Just the other day, I realised that the car has these incredible touches that show the attention to detail that Jeep has put into this SUV. And this is precisely why spending longer times with cars is necessary, because in any other scenario where we test it for a short duration, we have to go about making 3,400 gazillion kinds of content about the test car - and between it all, such things are easy to miss. For example, the car’s belt buckle is wrapped in this lovely soft touch material. Or how the fact that the rear camera feed which be seen on the inside rear view mirror helps you incredibly in case you happen to load the boot up to the top. I also loved the sheer amount of buttons on the centre console that giving you easy access to a lot of features even on the go, despite the car having three massive screens across the dash for an infotainment experience that’s no less than any luxury car. 
All of it really makes you appreciate the effort that Jeep has put into the Grand Cherokee. Jeep Grand Cherokee Long Term Review, April 2025 Report

Just the other day, I realised that the car has these incredible touches that show the attention to detail that Jeep has put into this SUV.

When it comes to the world of luxury EVs, today, there are quite a few options that are vying for your money. We’ve been fortunate enough to have some of the most premium EVs in India be part of our long term test fleet and over the past month, we got to spend time with the Audi Q8 e-tron. 
What landed up in our garage is the non-coupe version of the Q8 e-tron in the larger battery-equipped and the faster ’55’ variant. This brings with it a massive 114kWh battery that’s connected to 408bhp motor that can propel this luxe-barge from a standstill to 100km/h in just 5.6 seconds. While the specs may make you believe that this is the typical, explosive and heavy EV - the reality couldn’t be more different. 
What’s clear after spending time with the Q8 e-tron is that the approach has been one that focuses on being understated and soothing. Starting with the looks, the unpretentious design can be attractive based on how much do you like your EV to stand out. To me, the wide grille paired with the new 2D logo and the light signature makes it looks rather handsome. Our unit also came with the self-levelling logos on the wheels which is a nice feel-good feature to have.
On the inside, though, the experience was mixed. While the quality, feel, fit and finish leave nothing to complain, it is the on-board tech that makes this otherwise luxurious EV feel a generation behind. The fully touch-based air-con controls, the resolution of the screen and the overall experience feels like it needs a big update. What doesn’t help its case either is the overly sharp brake pedal which I simply could not come around to using in a smooth fashion. The bite is so sharp and sudden that after a while you just want to stop bobbing your head and take a “break.”
It’s redemption comes in the form of factors like a spot-on driving position, direct-feeling steering, space in the back seat despite having the massive battery underneath the floor, and a sizeable frunk space as well. And let’s not forget, with the range on offer, range anxiety is a thing of the past. Audi Q8 e-tron Long Term Review, April 2025 Report

While the specs of the Audi Q8 e-tron may make you believe that this is the typical, explosive and heavy EV - the reality couldn’t be more different.

Over the past few months—and even years—a clear trend has emerged in the Indian auto market: most new cars are SUVs. It seems both the industry and consumers are caught in a loop, with manufacturers devoting most of their resources to SUVs because of their popularity. Consequently, buyers looking for something other than an SUV have limited choices, especially in the price brackets and segments that dominate car sales in India.
For instance, among new cars priced under Rs. 15 lakh that aren’t SUVs, there are only three models that qualify – the Swift, Dzire, and Amaze. A quick look at their features and overall value reveals that the Dzire truly stands out. But why am I talking about the trend and state of the industry? Well, the reason is simple – the Dzire is as good as it gets if you want to avoid the SUV craze. After driving it for about 2,500km over a couple of months, I can confidently say the driving experience is nearly perfect. Maruti Suzuki Dzire Long Term Review, March 2025 Report

After driving it for about 2,500km over a couple of months, I can confidently say the driving experience is nearly perfect.

The world of motorcycles is a fascinating one. There are so many kinds of it that there’s one to suit everyone’s need, yet, motorcyclists can’t have enough. In this world, there’s one motorcycle manufacturer that firmly holds its own – Harley-Davidson. Over the years, even the mighty HD has dared to cross boundaries and experimented with different kinds of formats. However, the Harley-Davidson Breakout is a stark reminder of their strengths and absolute mastery of the cruiser motorcycle format. But before we dig into how the motorcycle is on different parameters, it is important to understand what it is in the first place.<h2>Harley-Davidson Breakout Review: What is it? </h2>Loosely, a cruiser motorcycle. You won’t be wrong if you call it so, but if you want to be specific, it is a chopper. And this distinction is of utmost importance for you to truly understand the Breakout and judge it fairly. You see, the best way to judge a bike is to start with its intent. Adventure motorcycles are meant to take the path less travelled, sportbikes are to chase the ten-tenths around a racetrack and cruisers, in the larger sense, are meant to munch miles with ease, highways being their preferred playing ground. Choppers, on the other hand, have one purpose – to make an impression. So, if I were to sum up the Breakout based on things like cornering abilities, touring capabilities and so on, it would be unfair on the motorcycle.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 The rise of choppers and the popularity of the Harley-Davidson culture go almost hand-in-hand. A huge fat rear tyre, rigid frame and a long raked out front end is the quintessential image of an American Badass on two wheels. Of course, this format takes us into the world of fat wheel custom choppers and eye-watering prices, but that’s a story for a different day. This is the early 2000s we are talking about, and towards the end of the decade, Harley would come out with the Rocker C – their take on what a chopper should be like, practically inventing the ‘factory chopper’ genre. It came with a funky rider seat which could be folded out to ‘unwrap’ the rear seat! Surely, not many would remember that, but it’s worth looking up.It was good, but it was Harley’s second attempt that gave us one of the most popular fat wheel factory choppers of all time – the Breakout. Fast forward to today, and the Breakout sticks to that design theme and continues the legacy.<h2>Harley-Davidson Breakout Review:&nbsp;Great Story, but how is it today?</h2>Let’s start with the fat rear tyre, perhaps the biggest draw of this motorcycle. It’s a full 240-section unit, wider than even the fanciest cars or SUVs you can think of! Next is the insane 1,923cc, 45-degree V-Twin air- and oil-cooled engine! In full display with exquisite attention to detail, no less. Add to that a slim front-end design, a massive 34-degree rake, shotgun exhausts, a 2.3-metre length and over 300kg of weight (in running order) – you get the idea. Thankfully, it has a decently sized 18.9-litre fuel tank – unlike the puny tanks in custom choppers. It’s a motorcycle that will appeal to the purists in every sense.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 At a standstill, it looks like a million dollars. But when on the move, it is every bit a typical Harley – butter smooth drivetrain, oodles of torque at the slightest twist of the throttle and that addictive, dominating riding stance that makes you feel like the king of the road. For perspective, it makes a mind-bending 168Nm of torque, and surprisingly, Harley even quotes the horsepower numbers for this one at 100bhp. You sit with your feet stretched out with a little bit of reach to the almost flat handlebar. Its rip-it-and-grip-it ride experience is equal parts intimidating and utterly, utterly addictive. The almost 1.7-metre-long wheelbase and the fat rubber means the motorcycle is slow to turn, and u-turns will have to be planned well in advance. But a bike that gives a lack of confidence it is not, and the ride quality is surprisingly good!<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

I have to be honest, this Softail chassis has been around since the late 2010s, but still is every bit modern and always leaves me surprised with just how it copes even on poorly surfaced roads. It’s no ADV, obviously, but way more capable than you would expect from a motorcycle of this appearance. The only thing that was a bit bothersome was the protruding air intake. As good as it looks, it comes in the way of using the rear brake. Speaking of which, on the safety tech front, you have Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS)… and that’s all. I love it!</div>

 On the features front, you have a minuscule 2.14 inch (yes, you read that right) LCD instrument cluster which gives you bare-minimum information at a time, but the complete set so long as you are willing to toggle through the menu set.<h2>Harley-Davidson Breakout Review: Verdict</h2>And well, that’s about it. The motorcycle is fairly simple and a refreshing throwback to what motorcycles are all about – the experience, the image and the personality that comes with it. Let’s face it, the experience of motorcycling is subjective and very thematic too, if I may say so. Off-road riders, enduro riders, supermoto riders, track riders, long-distance haulers… the list can go on. If you judge the Breakout based on its specifications, features and brochures,&nbsp; you’ll be committing a grave mistake. But if you kick it old school and go for a test ride, that is when you will appreciate what the motorcycle has to offer.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 It has everything that you would want from a bike like this. An engine called Milwaukee-Eight 117, massive displacement of 1,923cc (litre-class cylinders, almost), an air intake called ‘Heavy Breather’ and tyres that are called ‘Scorchers.’ It even has the eye-watering price tag and an unmistakable road presence! The motorcycle may not do a lot of things and could be seen as ‘too simple,’ perhaps. But it leaves you with a lasting memory. So, let’s play some Rock n’ Roll and take in the view with bikes like these while we can, before the ugly ADVs take over completely. Motorcycling is subjective, remember?[tabs]

Harley-Davidson Breakout Review: Fantastic, But Set Your Expectations Right

There’s nothing quite like the Harley-Davidson Breakout that says you’ve ‘arrived.’ It's every bit a factory chopper motorcycle - a raked out front end, long, low, a fat rear tyre and a price tag that separates you from the rest.

Ever since the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/windsor-ev/">MG Windsor EV</a> was launched in India, it has been the centre of attention. It brought with it a unique design, an exhaustive list of features, innovative methods of buying a car, like Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), and all of it came with a price tag that positioned it as the perfect choice of car to buy under Rs 20 lakh in India. It wasn’t a surprise that the Windsor won the prestigious ‘Best of 2024’ at the autoX Awards and that it would become the best-selling EV in India for seven consecutive months! Now, MG aims to take it up a notch with the new ‘Pro’ variant of the Windsor EV. We drive it in the jaw-dropping beauty of Shillong and find out what it’s all about.<h2>MG Windsor EV Pro Review: What’s Different? </h2>The first thing I want to mention is the price, as it will give you an idea of how popular this car is. <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/mg-windsor-ev-pro-launched-at-rs-1749-lakh-gets-bigger-battery-and-more-features-120622/" target="_blank">JSW MG Motor India had launched the Windsor EV Pro</a> at an introductory price tag of Rs 17.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which was to be valid for the first 8,000 customers, and mind you, 8,000 units in the world of EVs is a big number. Surprisingly, the introductory price had to end the next day as the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/mg-windsor-ev-pro-introductory-prices-end-heres-what-youll-pay-now-120661/" target="_blank">bookings crossed the 8,000 mark within 24 hours</a>! So now, the price is up by Rs 60,000, and the car costs Rs 18.10 lakh outright and Rs 13.10 lakh + Rs 4.5/km as part of the BaaS scheme.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 What you get for this price tag is, honestly, not a very big change. It is still a substantial one, however, as it brings a marked improvement in your everyday usage experience. The big change is the larger battery pack that the Pro variant gets – now a 52.9kWh LFP unit, as opposed to the 38kWh LFP unit in the ‘regular’ Windsor EV variants. As a result, the claimed range has gone up from 332km to an impressive 449km per charge. As per MG, the car takes about 9.5 hours to fully top up with a 7.4kW AC charger and about 50 minutes from 20 to 8 per cent with a 60kW DC fast charger. Since this was just a first drive, we could not perform a range test as per our standards.  The other big additions are the inclusion of level 2 ADAS features, a powered tail gate and your biggest tell that it is a Pro variant of the Windsor EV – new 18-inch alloy wheels which can be seen on the Hector as well. On the inside, the interior theme is now Ivory white and black and lastly, the Windsor Pro now supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) which is essentially means that you can power up appliances through the charging port of the car through an accessory that would set you back by Rs 5,000, or you can transfer charge to another car through an accessory cable who’s price is yet to be finalised but MG says should be about Rs 20,000.<h2>MG Windsor EV Pro Review: What’s the Same? </h2>Everything else about the car remains the same. This means everything we love about the car, like the 135-degree reclinable lounge seats at the back, the impressive 9-speaker audio system, ventilated front seats, ample storage areas around the cabin and the sheer size and space that you get for your money on the inside continue to impress. This also means that the massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is in equal measure impressive and yet cumbersome to use as almost all functionalities of the car are operated through it, also remains.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 What remains to be talked about is the ride and handling, which also, thankfully, continue to be thoroughly impressive. With the larger battery pack, MG has had to fine-tune the suspension and reinforce the structure of the car at a few places to accommodate the slight increase in weight. Once on the move, you will barely notice any difference in the way the car is to drive. This means it continues to be a fantastic handler that hides its weight rather well.<div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

 <h2>MG Windsor EV Pro Review: Worth Checking Out?</h2>The MG Windsor EV was already an impressive package on all fronts. While I believe there was an opportunity to bump up the feel-good feature set or the performance a couple of notches higher since it has the ‘Pro’ in its name, it is hard to argue against what MG has brought to the table. Especially when you consider that despite the longer range, the Windsor EV Pro still manages to undercut the Rs 20 lakh price tag. So, the answer is yes, it is worth checking out. Moreover, it is a highly recommended option in the price bracket and worth consideration, irrespective of whether you are in the market for an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) powered car or an EV.

MG Windsor EV Pro Review: More Wind in the Sail!

The MG Windsor EV Pro builds on a solid foundation, but does it do enough? We find out by taking it out for a drive in the lovely hills of Shillong.

After spending some time with the Toyota Vellfire, it’s easy to see why it has become the latest obsession in Bollywood. Nearly every major superstar has welcomed one into their garage, making it the vehicle of choice for the next red carpet appearance. After all, the Vellfire seamlessly blends practicality with indulgence, offering a unique sense of understated luxury unmatched by any other car in the Indian market, regardless of price. Let’s take a closer look.

<h2>It’s Mahoosive!</h2>

The Vellfire blends the bold, brawny aesthetic of a full-size SUV with the practical form factor of an MPV. Viewed head-on, the first thing that grabs your attention is its massive grille – one so imposing, it could put even the burliest of SUVs to shame. But the side tells a completely different story – here, the Vellfire embraces its MPV identity unapologetically. It’s also from this angle that its sheer size becomes apparent – standing nearly 2 metres tall and stretching just over 5 metres long. So commanding is its presence that even the 19-inch wheels seem modest.

Design-wise, it departs from the traditional ‘breadbox’ MPV silhouette with a stylish kink in the window line, which makes the car look more stylish than the outgoing model’s almost B-pillar-like intrusion. Here, you will also see the Vellfire badging, a subtle yet classy detail. At the rear, the boxy shape has a hint of sportiness, courtesy of a prominent roof spoiler. One design element that truly stands out is the chrome trim tracing the window line. It begins at the kink on the side, flows above the windows, wraps seamlessly around the spoiler, and mirrors itself on the opposite side – a thoughtful and beautifully executed detail.

<h2>The Luxury Lounge</h2>

The real reason to consider the Vellfire lies in its interior. Step inside, and you’re greeted by a cabin that feels nothing short of a luxurious airport lounge – an experience unmatched at this price point. Comfort is clearly the top priority, with everything else taking a backseat. The only slight effort required is while getting into the cabin. Starting at the front, the cabin is solidly built and purpose-driven. The Head-Up Display is a thoughtful addition, offering useful driving information without distraction. While the infotainment system’s interface may take a bit of getting used to, the crisp 14-inch touchscreen responds well, and the inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a nice touch.

It’s in the middle row where the Vellfire truly shines. The power-sliding doors alone offer a red-carpet-like experience, making you feel like a celebrity the moment you step in or out. Sink into either of the two captain seats, and you’re immediately enveloped in cloud-like comfort. Quite simply, these are among the most luxurious and comfortable seats. Their wide range of adjustability allows you to tailor your perfect seating or resting position, including the ability to recline nearly flat with the leg rests fully extended. Everything here is designed with indulgence in mind. Even the window blinds are electrically operated, and there are features like heating, ventilation, and massage functionality. The real surprise, however, lies in the third row, which is as spacious as the second row in any other ‘regular’ car. Long journeys here won’t be a problem, though access is only via the space between the middle-row seats – something that you get used to. Finally, the boot space is nothing short of cavernous if you fold the last row of seats (which is done manually) — you can pretty much shift houses without batting an eye.

<h2>A Driver's Car</h2>

But not in the way you might expect. Driving the Vellfire is as exciting as making a sandwich. That’s not a dig; in fact, it’s a testament to how effortlessly and efficiently it handles its core purpose: comfortable, no-fuss commuting. Under the hood, it gets a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of around 250bhp. That may sound like a healthy figure, but given the sheer size of the Vellfire, it feels just about adequate. Power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox, and it emits the typical whine when pushed hard. However, take things slow – or find yourself crawling through inevitable city traffic – and the Vellfire truly comes into its own. At lower speeds and with sufficient battery charge, it can run silently in EV mode. As the speed picks up, the petrol engine kicks in seamlessly. Ride quality is exceptional, with most road imperfections soaked up effortlessly; only the occasional sharp bump manages to filter through. If there’s one area where the Vellfire could improve, it’s in cabin insulation, for road and wind noise do creep in at highway speeds, slightly disrupting an otherwise whisper-quiet atmosphere.

Surprisingly, the Vellfire never scraped its belly during our test, even without the aid of an air suspension setup. The stock suspension delivers a ride quality that’s very much in line with expectations, striking a fine balance between comfort and practicality. Adding to its usability is Toyota’s suite of ADAS features, which rely on both camera and radar systems. <h2>Verdict</h2>

The Vellfire has certainly become a lot more expensive than it used to be. With its prices ranging between ₹1.22 crore to ₹1.33 crore (ex-showroom), it now squares off against some of the most elite chauffeur-driven offerings in the country. Yes, you could opt for a fancier badge at this price, but few vehicles offer the same peace of mind that comes with a Toyota, especially when combined with this level of comfort and practicality. If you value being well-rested during your daily chauffeur-driven routine, prefer subtle luxury, and want a vehicle that delivers uncompromised comfort without attracting undue attention, the Vellfire is as good as it gets.
