Apple-owned Beats has teamed up with Kim Kardashian to launch the Beats x Kim collection, giving the acclaimed Beats Pill speakers a new shot at popularity. Priced at ₹16,900, we put the speaker to the test – and we were thoroughly impressed.
As a loyal resident of Apple’s Walled Garden, the Beats Pill seamlessly fits into the ecosystem. With one-touch pairing for both Android and Apple devices, all I had to do was power it on near my iPhone. It was automatically saved as a Bluetooth device and appeared in ‘Find My’ after being linked to my Apple ID – a level of integration Apple users will instantly appreciate. For many, this smooth compatibility alone could be a strong selling point. However, there’s much more to love about the Beats Pill.
The sound quality of the Beats Pill is plush and energetic. While I don’t consider myself an audiophile, I’m not a fan of overly boomy speakers, which tend to drown everything in bass. The Beats Pill strikes an excellent balance, delivering rich lows with a satisfying body and crisp highs.
Another standout feature is the inclusion of microphones, which not only allow access to your preferred voice assistant but also make it possible to take calls. In my experience, callers could barely tell I was speaking through a speaker, even though I was sitting close to it, as its spot has been my home office desk.
Charging is handled via a USB-C port, and the battery life is impressive, offering up to 24 hours of playback at half volume. For my indoor use, I rarely went above 30 – 40% volume, and it comfortably lasted through extended listening sessions.
That said, it’s not without its flaws. I missed the classic 3.5mm jack for legacy audio devices. Plus, there’s no built-in EQ, and it may take some time to understand how to go about multitasking with the button controls.
With an IP67 rating, the Beats Pill is well-suited for beach and pool outings. While it’s not the most rugged speaker available, its premium design and excellent finish make up for it. Overall, it stands out as one of the best Bluetooth speakers in India under ₹20,000.
