India’s love for SUVs shows no signs of slowing down, and Mahindra is right at the centre of it. The homegrown carmaker, long known for its robust family SUVs, is gearing up for the debut of the XEV 9S, a model set to blend everyday practicality with a pure-electric heart. Mahindra’s EV journey isn’t new. Over 30,000 of its electric SUVs are already on Indian roads. But the XEV 9S marks a turning point, it’s the brand’s first three-row electric SUV built on the INGLO skateboard platform, and also India’s first mainstream seven-seater electric SUV. Expect more space, a flat floor, and smart packaging made possible by its dedicated EV architecture.

With the global reveal set for November 27, the XEV 9S is shaping up to be a major milestone in Mahindra’s electric story, and here’s why it deserves your attention.
The Mahindra XEV 9S takes the brand’s electric SUV design language forward with a clean, modern appearance that still retains its true Mahindra identity. As the company’s first seven-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S combines familiar SUV proportions with a sleeker, closed-off front fascia and slim LED light bands.

The flush door handles and upright stance defines its 'born electric' design philosophy, while the long roofline highlights its three-row practicality.
The XEV 9S will be larger than its five-seater sibling, the XEV 9e. This skateboard-based structure has allowed Mahindra to maximise cabin space, resulting in better space management, a completely flat floor, and a sliding second-row seat.

These elements allows flexible seating configurations and improved comfort for third-row passengers. The SUV will also feature a full-sized frunk, further upscaling its practicality.
The XEV 9S will feature all the technology and features seen in the XEV 9e, creating a seamless experience across Mahindra’s electric lineup. Expect a large tri-screen setup, ADAS features, connected-car functions, and a range of digital displays that make the interior feel futuristic yet functional.

The panoramic sunroof adds to the sense of space and airiness in the cabin. The flat floor makes movement between rows easier, while the sliding second row ensures flexible legroom.
The XEV 9S will use the same INGLO platform as the other Mahindra electric SUVs, supporting both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive setups. While Mahindra has not confirmed exact specifications, the XEV 9S is expected to share its battery options with the XEV 9e, likely 59kWh and 79kWh packs.

The skateboard design also contributes to a lower centre of gravity and better space utilisation, improving both ride comfort and cabin practicality. The rear-wheel-drive configuration will give the XEV 9S a balanced mix of performance and control.
The Mahindra XEV 9S is expected to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it above the XEV 9e. The premium is justified by the added seating row, larger dimensions, and expanded feature set. The electric SUV will serve as a flagship in the brand’s EV range.
