Tata Tiago Long Term Report December 2016

Townie!

With our anniversary issue last month and a hectic travel schedule, I didn’t get the time to take my long term Tata Tiago out for a long weekend drive. But amidst all of it, I have been able to spend some time driving it in the city, and this is where it shines bright. While the 1.0-litre diesel motor of the Tiago might seem scanty for long highway hauls, it is ideal for city driving conditions. The power is adequate and the motor is reasonably refined for a 3-pot unit. The clutch action is light, which means it doesn’t leave you with a painful knee after driving in stop-and-go traffic. Besides the engine, its ride quality is quite laudable. It takes all the broken roads, uneven surfaces and the potholes in its stride to offer an undeniably comfortable drive.

Two other things that deserve a mention here are its features and dimensions. The one we have on test is the top-spec variant which comes with Bluetooth telephony, airbags and ABS – all must-have features in a car. With its dimensions and the aid of parking sensors, parking it is a trouble-free affair. One thing that the Tiago desperately needs is consistency in terms of quality. Certain plastic parts look better built and richer than the rest. It sticks out like a sore thumb especially when it does most things with decent aplomb.
