Citroen Racing has confirmed its participation to the Formula E World Championship for Season 12. The French manufacturer will take to the grid for the 2025/26 campaign, stepping into the slot previously occupied by Maserati MSG Racing. This move ends months of speculation about Citroen's motorsport future and marks a transition from traditional rally stages to the urban circuits of Formula E. The team has secured two proven performers in Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne for its debut season. Cassidy arrives from Jaguar TCS Racing where he finished runner-up in the drivers' standings last season, whilst Vergne brings two Formula E championship titles from his time with DS Penske. This pairing provides Citroen with genuine championship credentials as the brand embarks on its electric racing journey.

Citroen's motorsport pedigree runs deep across various disciplines. The brand dominated the World Rally Championship with nine drivers' titles and eight manufacturers' crowns, with Sebastien Loeb claiming eight of those drivers' titles. Success extended to touring cars too, where Jose Maria Lopez secured three consecutive World Touring Car Championship titles between 2014 and 2016.
The brand switch reflects Stellantis's evolving strategy within its motorsport portfolio. While Maserati scales back its electric vehicle focus, Citroen's expanding electrified range aligns perfectly with Formula E's mission. Models like the e-C4 X and e-C5 Aircross showcase the brand's electric credentials, with the Indian market also receiving the eC3 model. This racing programme will directly support Citroen's electric vehicle development.
Citroen will operate through the existing Monaco Sports Group structure for its maiden campaign, sharing technical components with DS Penske. The team makes its first public appearance during pre-season testing at Valencia's Ricardo Tormo Circuit in October. While immediate success remains the goal, Citroen recognises the learning curve ahead as it establishes itself in the championship.

Looking forward, Stellantis is evaluating relocating the operation to its Satory facility in France ahead of the Gen4 regulations. Cassidy and Vergne will play crucial roles in developing the next-generation Formula E car, ensuring Citroen remains competitive when the new technical era begins. Their experience will prove invaluable as the brand builds towards long-term success in electric racing.
