Indian rally driver Sanjay Takale has confirmed his entry for the Dakar Rally 2026, where he will compete in the four-wheeler category with Aerpace Racers. This will be his second appearance at the rally and keeps India represented in the cars category for another year. Takale will again receive technical support from the French team Compagne Sharenne, continuing the partnership from his previous campaign. For 2026, his focus is on better preparation and clearer planning, using lessons from his first Dakar.
Takale’s comeback follows his debut Dakar run, where he finished 18th overall in the classic 4x4 category. He also secured several top-10 stage finishes during the rally. Driving a Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ78, he became the first Indian to complete the Dakar Classic in the cars category. That experience gave him a clear understanding of stage length, navigation demands and changing terrain, which now guides his approach for 2026.

'My first Dakar was an extraordinary experience. Dakar changes you once you race it; you are never the same. It challenges you mentally, breaks you down, and teaches you resilience, discipline, and the true meaning of fighting back. I emerged not just as a stronger driver but as a different person altogether. This year, my focus is clear to return, finish the rally again, and significantly improve my position. I will once again be competing for my team, Aerpace Racers, with technical support from Compagne Sharenne, France. I am proud to represent India as the only four-wheeler entry for the second consecutive year. My goal is simple: to see the finish line and to finish stronger,' says Mr Sanjay Takle
The 2026 entry keeps India present in the Dakar four-wheeler field, with Takale once again the country’s only representative in this category. His programme with Aerpace Racers links to the team’s work in cross-country and classic rally events. Participation in rallies such as the Thailand Rally Raid Championship and Dakar Classic has helped build experience and operational knowledge.
Sanjay Takale's record includes results in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship, category wins in the Asia Cross Country Rally and starts in World Rally Championship events. Preparations for Dakar 2026 are expected to focus on navigation practice and vehicle setup, with the aim of completing the full rally and improving on his previous result.
