The Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit is set to play an important role in the 2025 Formula 1 title race. McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris arrive separated by 31 points in the Drivers’ Championship, with Norris closing the gap after a strong result in Monza. Their contest resumes on Baku’s tight streets, where every lap could reshape the title fight. McLaren also lead the Constructors’ standings, holding a 337-point advantage over Ferrari, and could seal the title if they extend that gap beyond 346 by the end of the weekend.
A pit stop error in Italy slowed McLaren’s charge in the previous round, leading to team orders that allowed Max Verstappen to take victory for Red Bull. The result highlighted Verstappen’s determination to stay in the fight during the final races of the season.

Baku has become a major battleground in recent years. Piastri won there in 2024 after resisting Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who has claimed pole position at the circuit four times in a row. Norris, meanwhile, recovered from 15th on the grid to finish fourth in last year’s race. With McLaren targeting both championships, the focus is on whether Piastri and Norris can control the race or if Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes will interrupt their momentum.
