Former Haas F1 Team sponsor, Uralkali, has initiated legal proceedings in the Netherlands to seize the team's assets, including cars and equipment, over an outstanding payment. This action follows a June arbitration ruling that ordered Haas to refund a portion of Uralkali's 2022 sponsorship fee. The sponsorship agreement was terminated in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. While the arbitration court upheld Haas's right to end the deal, it determined that the team owed Uralkali a significant portion of the $13 million sponsorship payment. The court mandated that Haas return the excess amount paid after the cancellation date of March 4, 2022, estimated to be around USD 9 million.

Despite Haas complying with the court's order, Uralkali alleged last month that the team had missed the July deadline for the refund. This prompted the Russian company to escalate the matter to Dutch courts. The ongoing legal dispute between Haas and Uralkali underscores the complex financial implications of geopolitical tensions on international business relationships, even within the realm of professional sports.

In 2021, the Haas F1 Team signed a sponsorship agreement with Uralkali, a Russian fertiliser company. The deal included the addition of Russian driver Nikita Mazepin to the team and a car livery prominently featuring the Russian flag. This partnership was instrumental in Haas's financial stability ahead of the 2021 season.

However, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in March 2022, Haas swiftly terminated its ties with both Uralkali and Mazepin. This abrupt decision led to a significant dispute as Uralkali sought a full reimbursement of the sponsorship fees paid prior to the deal's cancellation.
