Ferrari has confirmed a multi-year agreement to supply power units and gearboxes to Andretti Formula Racing's Cadillac-branded F1 team, which is scheduled to debut in 2026. Andretti Global, backed by General Motors, received provisional approval from Formula 1 to join the grid in 2026, with final confirmation pending. The team, racing under the Cadillac banner, will initially rely on Ferrari power units, bridging the gap until General Motors' own power unit development, slated for 2028. This collaboration marks a significant shift for Andretti, who previously had a deal with Renault. However, recent changes in the F1 landscape, including Renault's decision to cease power unit supply, prompted a reassessment of the team's strategy. This partnership between Ferrari and Andretti Global underscores the growing global appeal of the sport and the strategic alliances forming ahead of this exciting new chapter.

In a statement, Ferrari said: 'Ferrari N.V. today announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.'

Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal Scuderia Ferrari HP: 'It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States. We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration. It means we will continue to have two “customer teams” in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari.'

The F1 Grid Expands to 11 Teams

Cadillac, backed by General Motors (GM), will join the Formula 1 grid in 2026 as the 11th team. This marks GM’s formal entry into the sport, with Cadillac set to compete alongside other teams in the championship.

In late 2023, Michael Andretti's organisation announced its intention to enter F1, taking part in the FIA's tendering process. Michael, a former Formula 1 driver and son of 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti, led the bid. Andretti’s proposal met the FIA's requirements, advancing it to Formula One Management (FOM) for further review.

Although FOM declined Andretti’s bid, GM was encouraged to explore its own path into Formula 1. As part of this new direction, Andretti has continued to expand its facilities in Silverstone, UK, and the U.S., while recruiting experienced figures like Graeme Lowdon and Pat Symonds. Mario Andretti will also take on a director role on the team’s board to oversee the project ahead of the 2026 season.
