Formula 1 has announced that a record 24 races will be held during the 2024 F1 season. The first race of the championship will take place in Bahrain on March 2, while the last race of the season will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 8. The schedule for the championship spans a period of ten months. Despite the fact that the new schedule has a significant reshuffling, the season opening and finale will still take place in the Middle East. The Grand Prix of Japan will now take place as the fourth event of the year in April, with the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan being moved to September. The Chinese Grand Prix will return to Shanghai in April of next year. Spa-Franchorchamps, site of the legendary Belgian Grand Prix, would host a Formula 1 event and will serve as the season's last race before the summer break. Zandvoort will again serve as the season's opening venue following the summer break.

The 2024 calendar improves the flow of races in some regions by switching Japan to April, Azerbaijan to September, and Qatar to back-to-back with Abu Dhab, making it easy for organisers and teams to transport their equipment. This work will continue while being realistic that as a world championship, with environmental and legal constraints, there will always be needed travel that cannot be completely regionalised.

The first two races of the season will be held in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and the Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday instead of Sunday in each of those countries. This decision was made in order to facilitate the celebration of Ramadan.

F1: Domenicali Emphasises 'sustainable' 2024 calendar

Stefano Domenicali

Speaking of the 2024 Formula 1 calendar announcement, Stefano Domenicali said: “I am delighted to announce the 2024 calendar with 24 races that will deliver an exciting season for our fans around the world. There is huge interest and continued demand for Formula 1, and I believe this calendar strikes the right balance between traditional races and new and existing venues."

Throughout the course of the season, there will be three tripleheaders. The first will include races in Spain, Austria, and Silverstone, while the second will include the North American and South American races that take place in late October and early November. The last three races of the year are the third. The locations of the Sprint races are yet unknown.

Three tripleheaders and four additional doubleheaders will be a significant challenge for the Formula 1’s logistical partners in 2024.
