Red Bull Racing’s Barcelona shakedown didn’t go to plan on Day 2 as Isack Hadjar crashed the RB22 in tricky wet conditions. The team was midway through its early 2026 F1 running when rain began to settle over the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. With grip dropping and visibility getting worse, the afternoon session quickly turned into a test of control rather than pace. Hadjar was at the wheel when the incident happened at Turn 14, the final corner of the lap. The crash brought Red Bull’s running to a halt for the day, cutting short valuable mileage at a time when teams are still trying to understand their new cars.

Max Verstappen had driven earlier in the morning session, when the track was mostly dry. As the weather changed, Red Bull stayed out to gather data on how the RB22 behaved as conditions worsened, knowing wet running still offers useful feedback this early in the season.
Hadjar took over later in the day with the circuit fully damp. While pushing through the final sector, the car lost grip at Turn 14 and spun into the barriers. The RB22 came to rest backwards after hitting the wall, with clear damage to the rear end, including the rear wing.
The crash ended Red Bull’s Day 2 programme earlier than planned. Despite rain in the forecast, the team chose to run, unlike several others. Ferrari and Red Bull were the only teams on track, while other teams, such as McLaren and Mercedes, remained in the garage due to the conditions.
Hadjar was unhurt and walked away from the incident. Red Bull engineers immediately began assessing the damage as the team now has just one shakedown day remaining. Red Bull has already used two days of running from the five-day Barcelona shakedown, where teams are allowed to choose any three days on track. With one day still remaining, the team now has time to repair the RB22 and prepare for its final outing.
