During this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, Mick Schumacher will be behind the wheel of his father's Mercedes. For the first time in his life, the young driver will be behind the wheel of Michael Schumacher's W02 from the 2011 season. At Mercedes, Mick is a reserve driver right now. In 2011, the W02 was a reliable points scorer for Mercedes, which finished fourth in the constructors' championship that year. His father's 91 race victories are only topped by Lewis Hamilton (103), with whom he shares the record of seven world championships. On the weekend of July 15 and 16, Schumacher will participate at the Goodwood. The 2023 Mercedes W14 was initially driven by the former Haas driver and current Mercedes reserve during a Pirelli tyre test at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya after the Spanish Grand Prix. After being let go by Haas and losing his racing seat, Schumacher is trying all in his power to get another ride for 2024.

This time around, the German will be driving the W02 at Goodwood, the same vehicle his seven-time world champion father, Michael, raced for Mercedes in 2011. Schumacher, who will be making his debut appearance at the event, is overjoyed: "It’s going to be spectacular to run in my dad’s 2011 car, the W02, even if it is only a short run.

When Mercedes bought the team in 2009, the W02 was the second vehicle they'd developed and constructed. The car became a consistent points scorer in 2011 thanks to Michael and future 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg's efforts.
