George Russell delivered a composed and controlled drive to take his second win of the 2025 Formula 1 season at the Singapore Grand Prix. Starting from pole position, the Mercedes driver maintained his lead from the opening lap under the lights of Marina Bay, resisting early pressure from Max Verstappen. The Red Bull star, who opted for soft compound tyres, struggled as the race unfolded due to rapid degradation in the humid conditions. Russell’s victory came at an important juncture in his career, with ongoing discussions surrounding his 2026 Mercedes contract. The result not only boosts his personal confidence but also strengthens Mercedes’ pursuit of second place in the Constructors’ Championship as the season heads toward its final stretch.

McLaren’s race was marked by internal tension between Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri. Early on, Norris made a decisive overtake on Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli before executing a controversial move on Piastri. The exchange drew frustration from Piastri over team radio, reflecting the internal competitiveness within the McLaren camp.
Behind them, Antonelli recovered to claim fifth place after overtaking Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the closing laps, with Leclerc taking sixth following a late setback for Lewis Hamilton.

As the race concluded, Verstappen narrowly held second place ahead of Norris and Piastri in fourth. Hamilton’s night worsened when the stewards launched an investigation into repeated track-limit infringements. His brake problems late in the race saw him slip out of the points, underlining Mercedes’ inconsistent form despite Russell’s win.
The result proved monumental for McLaren, as Norris and Piastri’s combined points sealed the 2025 Constructors’ Championship. It marked McLaren’s tenth title and second consecutive triumph, matching Red Bull’s back-to-back successes from 2023.

With six rounds left, McLaren has surpassed 650 points and now aims to break Red Bull’s 2023 season records. The intra-team rivalry remains in focus as Piastri leads Norris by 22 points, setting up an intense run-in to the campaign’s end.
