The 26-year-old German has set pretty much every record of note in Formula 1 when when it comes to being the youngest to get to a mark. That was impressive enough but by winning his eighth consecutive F1 race of the 2013 season at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, he has rewrote a mighty impressive stat in the record book.

The win at the Circuit of Americas ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus F1 and Red Bull Racing teammate Mark Webber means that no other driver in the history of F1 has won as many races in succession in a season.

A record that looks all the more remarkable given the challenge being put to Vettel and Red Bull Racing by former F1 champions Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Grosjean's illustrious Finnish teammate Kimi Raikkonen at one point of the season.

Vettel was unchallenged in the race after Grosjean failed to get past the German at the start of the race when the Frenchman shot past Webber.

A brief challenge for a podium place by Lewis Hamilton faded away as the 2008 champion fell into the clutches of Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber and McLaren's Sergio Perez.

Hamilton ultimately ended up finishing fourth ahead of the trio with Valteri Bottas of Williams taking eighth to score the first points of his career.

Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg and McLaren's Jenson Button rounded out the top 10.
