The Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) is adding a brand-new twist to its second season, introducing a Rider Retention policy that is set to shake up the auction dynamics. For the first time, franchises will be allowed to keep a few of their key riders from the previous year, helping them build stronger team identities and long-term strategies. It’s a move that mirrors the practices of major international leagues, underlining ISRL’s ambition to operate on a truly global level.
The build-up to Season 2 has already been buzzing, with an impressive 155 riders from 23 different countries registering for the auction. This alone creates the promise of a highly competitive grid. However, the retention system adds another strategic layer, forcing teams to make a big decision: hold on to a proven star from their Season 1 roster, or take a calculated risk by chasing fresh international talent.

To keep the competition balanced, each team can only retain two riders in total, but crucially, they must come from different racing categories. This simple but effective rule prevents any one franchise from monopolising a particular class while still allowing them to preserve some of their existing strengths.

For team managers, this retention phase is shaping up to be as tense as the auction itself. Successful franchises may have to release fan favourites back into the pool, while rising squads might see this as an opportunity to snap up big names and strengthen their line-ups.
