Jaguar Racing has pulled the sheets off its new Gen4 development car, the Jaguar GEN4 proto_TYPE, just before it heads to Circuit Paul Ricard for its first proper shakedown. This isn’t just a new coat of paint; it’s our first real look at the technical shift coming to Formula E. We’re looking at more power, the move to permanent all-wheel drive, and a larger physical footprint. To mark the occasion, Jaguar wrapped the prototype in a test livery inspired by speed traces from the Monaco street circuit, making it one of the more striking machines we’ve seen in recent years. That 'data-trace' livery is more than just a design choice.

Jaguar’s engineers actually mapped speed data from Monaco and overlaid performance metrics from the last three generations of their racing history against the projected speeds of this Gen4 car. It gives the car a prototype feel that matches its new proportions.

The Gen4 car has grown, stretching to 5,540mm in length and 1,800mm in width. To handle different types of circuits, teams will now have two aero packages to play with, one designed to hunk the car down on tight street tracks and another low-drag setup for faster sections. The real headline, however, is the spike in performance. The Gen4 era is pushing output up to 805bhp for qualifying and Attack Mode bursts, a big jump from the 470bhp we see today.

Perhaps the biggest change for the drivers is the switch to permanent active all-wheel drive. By ditching the limited front-axle engagement of the current cars, the Gen4 should be much quicker out of slow corners and more stable when speeds rise. We are finally looking at top speeds that will clear the 320km/h mark. Under the bodywork, the tech is just as important. The car runs a 55kWh battery pack from Podium Advanced Technologies, capable of 700kW of regenerative braking.

As Jaguar starts its testing programme in France, it’s clear the Gen4 isn’t just an evolution, it’s a reset for the championship.
