Formula Renault 2.0 NEC: Jehan Daruvala to resume maiden campaign after top rookie honours in Eurocup

India's most prolific kart driver to date, Jehan Daruvala, continued his solid debut season in car racing as Sahara Force India Academy driver supplemented his full-time participation in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern (NEC) European Cup with guest drives in the Silverstone and Nurburgring rounds of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. The two are single-spec junior formula series in which some of the top young single seat drivers in the world are competing full-time as well as in the NEC.

After a difficult weekend in Silverstone on the 5th and 6th of September, where Daruvala suffered a frightening crash at the Becketts section of the high-speed circuit and was unable to start the second race, the 16-year-old finished seventh in the first race of the Nurburgring race weekend - that took place on the 12th and 13th of September - after qualifying ninth.

The result made Jehan Daruvala the highest placed rookie driver in the field of 35 drivers where the top nine placed drivers in the championship standings have raced in the Eurocup in previous seasons.

The weekend was not without strife, however, as the second race of the weekend saw a poor qualifying effort where Daruvala qualified 24th and torrential rain at the start of the race saw it start under a safety car, where on the opening lap itself, Daruvala's car lost all drive in 4th gear.

Daruvala returns to action in the NEC - where he is currently placed sixth in the championship standings out of 38 classified drivers and is the second highest placed rookie driver - this weekend. The two races of the penultimate round of the season will once again be held at the Nurburgring on the 19th and 20th of September.
