Defending MotoGP world champion Jorge Martinis is expected to race for Aprilia at the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix, pending medical clearance. He missed the start of the season after injuring his right hand and foot during pre-season testing in Malaysia. Martin is expected to begin his title defence from Qatar GP with Aprilia after winning the 2024 championship with Ducati satellite team Pramac, narrowly beating Francesco Bagnaia.

Martin’s return comes as the 2025 MotoGP season heats up. He will start 87 points behind current leader Alex Marquez. Alex leads the standings by just one point over his brother Marc Marquez. Marc, a six-time champion, is back in top form with two Grand Prix wins and three sprint race victories this year. Their close battle has added extra drama to the championship.

In a press release from Aprilia, Martin stated: 'I have a great desire to be back on the track and I’m happy to at least be able to try and race in Qatar. The goal will be to build up a bit of confidence with the RS-GP25 and to begin to turn some laps. I don’t know how my physical fitness will be – undoubtedly not 100%.

'We’ll try to do our best and to improve gradually. Physically, I’m not even sure I’ll be able to finish the race, but if we can manage, it will be a victory because that will mean that I’m beginning to recover. We need to take one step at a time to try and get back to our normal level as soon as possible.'
