The first-ever 'Grand Prix of Bharat' is planned to take place next year at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC).

MotoGP fans in the country can finally rejoice, as Noida-based sporting activities company Fairstreet Sports Pvt. Ltd. and MotoGP organiser Dorna Sports S.L. have signed a seven-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring the premier motorcycle racing championship here. Though there is no confirmed date yet for the inaugural 'Grand Prix of Bharat', the organisers are confident of getting a slot on the 2023 calendar. And that's not all. MotoGP organisers have also announced their intention of bringing the all-electric FIM MotoE World Cup to India.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Carlos Ezpeleta, MD – Dorna Sports, said, 'MotoGP continues to earn new audiences and fans worldwide. This makes it imperative for us to expand its presence to new destinations where fans and riders are growing every year. India is key to our scheme of taking MotoGP sport to new frontiers. Over the past decade, the MotoGP World Championship has gone from strength to strength, thanks to a competitive grid and a well-crafted set of rules. We look forward to gaining a wider fan base in India with the Grand Prix of Bharat.'

However, one needs to keep in mind that the BIC is yet to be homologated and approved by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). So, realistically, we think the Grand Prix of Bharat could make its debut in 2024. Plus, the organisers are still in talks with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to get the necessary approvals.
