Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin’s Sepang test ended abruptly after a high-speed crash on the first day. Riding his Aprilia RS-GP for only the second time, Martin suffered a violent high side at Turn 2, landing heavily on his head. The session was immediately red-flagged, and Martin was transported to the circuit medical centre and then to Aurelius Hospital in Nilai for further checks. Medical tests confirmed that Martin fractured his right hand and left foot. As a result, he will miss the remaining days of the Sepang test and return to Europe for surgery.
Aprilia confirmed that neither mechanical failure nor rider error caused the crash, which followed an earlier, less severe fall at Turn 1. In that incident, Martin was able to return to the pits and continue testing on his second bike.

Martin is not the only rider facing injury at the Sepang test. Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Ducati fractured his collarbone, while Raul Fernandez from Trackhouse Aprilia requires surgery for a left-hand fracture. These injuries are a major setback for the riders and their teams as they gear up for the 2025 MotoGP season.
Fabio Di Giannantonio’s return to MotoGP testing has been cut short after he fractured his collarbone in a crash at Sepang on Wednesday. Initially reported as unharmed, further medical checks revealed the injury, and the VR46 Ducati rider has been forced to withdraw from the rest of the Sepang test. He will now return to Italy for surgery. This setback comes after a lengthy recovery for Di Giannantonio, who missed the final two races of the 2024 season due to a dislocated shoulder from the Austrian Grand Prix.

Despite the crash, Di Giannantonio finished seventh fastest after completing 49 laps. As one of only three riders on the GP25 Ducati this season, and having missed the Barcelona test last November due to shoulder surgery, the lost track time is a major challenge.

Di Giannantonio’s injury makes him one of three riders forced to withdraw from the Sepang test on day one. His participation in the Buriram test is now in doubt, placing pressure on his recovery.
