Jorge Martin’s name is back in the middle of the MotoGP rider market, with reports linking him to a Yamaha move for the 2027 season. According the source, the talk in the paddock is that the deal could run for two years, taking effect once his Aprilia contract ends in 2026. Nothing has been signed yet, but the timing makes sense. Yamaha is expected to have room in its factory set-up, and teams are already planning well ahead with big regulation changes coming in 2027. After everything Martin has dealt with over the past two seasons, this reported move feels like a reset point rather than just another transfer story.

His time with Aprilia has never really settled. Martin arrived in 2025 after Ducati chose a different factory direction, but things quickly became difficult. Injuries hit early and kept returning, including surgeries to his left wrist and right collarbone. Missing preseason tests hurt his preparation, and once you lose track time in MotoGP, it is hard to recover rhythm, confidence and consistency.

The relationship between Martin and Aprilia became tense midway through 2025. He pushed for an early exit in order to join Honda for the 2026 season, but Aprilia stood firm. The contract was enforced, and Martin stayed put, even as interest from other manufacturers continued quietly in the background.
At the same time, Yamaha’s own situation has been shifting. Fabio Quartararo is expected to leave at the end of 2026, with his future pointing towards Honda. That potential exit changes everything for Yamaha, especially with the team looking to rebuild before the new engine rules arrive. A rider like Martin fits naturally into that conversation.
With 2027 shaping up as a fresh start for MotoGP, the rider market is already moving earlier than usual. Martin has been linked with Honda over the past year, but Yamaha now appears to be the strongest option. Until anything becomes official, the story remains reported, but it is one that continues to gather momentum every time the paddock doors open.
