The naked twin of the CBR650R, the Honda CB650R is the relaxed one of the two successors to the old inline-4 cylinder middleweight icon, the CBR650F. The bike runs the same underpinnings as its sportier twin. However, it is the debut of the Neo-Retro Cafe Racer style of the new CB series in India and sports different ergonomics. Based on the iconic aggressive look of its supersport elder brother, the CB1000R, the Honda CB650R is now available with BS6 emission norms in India, albeit at a rather hefty price tag. Like its sibling, the CB650R has seen slight increases in weight and detuning of performance figures as well, making it that much more difficult for the new BS-6 variant to justify its price tag. The real kicker is that the price point puts the Honda CB650R dangerously close to its competitors in a class above, who naturally offer more of everything at the price point. Honda CB650R Exterior Details

The sportier version of the 650 twins, took inspiration from the Japanese automaker's supersport flagship, the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade (now CBR1000RR-R). The new CB650R, on the other hand, gets its exterior and design inspiration from the flagship's naked sibling, the CB1000R. And like its elder twin, the ideology behind the new Neo-Retro 650 is power and inline-4 goodness, married to a street-friendly chassis and ergonomics. This achievement can be credited to the neutral style of the handlebars and footpegs of the CB650R. The new naked features the classic Honda colour scheme and the new Neo-Retro design of the CB. Muscular lines along with the tank make the bike look significantly girthy. The inline-4 engine's exposed headers add to the look albeit, with a slight hit to the ground clearance. At a ground clearance of 148mm, the naked middleweight isn't going to be trouble on the streets, but it doesn't qualify as a hardcore offroader either. Great then, that it isn't meant for it. The Honda CB650R's dimensions stand at 2128mm in length, 784mm in width and a height of 1075mm with a kerb weight of 202.8kgs.

Honda CB650R Engine & Transmission

Detuning or changing power delivery when talking about an engine running in a sporty and a naked variant of the same bike isn't unheard of, but that is not the case here. The Honda CB650R runs the same drivetrain and power figures as its sportier sibling. The CB650R's inline-4 cylinder 648.72cc engine puts down 85.8hp of peak power and 57.5Nm of peak torque. In pure Honda fashion, the 15.4-litre tank of this middleweight naked drops a decent mileage of 20.4kmpl, similar to its sportier twin. The power goes through a manual 6-speed transmission.

Honda CB650R Handling

Thanks to its more neutral ergonomics, the CB650R handles better on city roads than its sportier variant. However, with the latest updates, both variants have seen handling improvements thanks to new suspension upgrades. The CB650R gets Showa’s 41mm Separate Function Big Piston fork on the front and a Honda PROlink monoshock suspension on the rear. Braking abilities are supplied by twin 310mm discs at the front and Nissin dual-piston callipers with a 240mm disc on the rear end.

Honda CB650R Features

The new Honda CB650R gets the same features as its twin. These include a complete LED treatment with an iconic CB1000R inspired LED DRL lined headlight setup. For the display, the motorcycle gets an LCD screen and also a Type-C socket under the seat. For safety, the middleweight motorcycle gets Dual Channel ABS, with Honda's version of traction control called Honda Selectable Torque Control System (HSTC), which is switchable with a button on the left handle controls.
