Kinetic has brought back its well-known DX scooter in a new electric form. Launched at Rs 1.11 lakh (ex-showroom), the DX Electric has been developed by Kinetic Watts and Volts Ltd. It offers a range of 116km on a full charge and reaches a top speed of 90km/h. Riders can switch between Range, Turbo, and Power modes based on their riding needs and road conditions. The original DX, launched in the 1990s, was known for being gearless and easy to use. It was often chosen by families and women riders. The company has also introduced the Easy Charge system, which aims to make the charging process more direct. The new Kinetic DX Electric offers an estimated 116km range on a single charge and a top speed of 90 km/h, featuring three riding modes: Range, Turbo, and Power. 

Kinetic Green is poised to revive a legendary badge with the launch of its all-electric Kinetic DX EV, slated for unveiling in India on July 28. Drawing inspiration from the original Kinetic Honda, the modern DX sports a vintage-meets-futuristic design with a hexagonal headlamp, illuminated flyscreen branding, and a nostalgic red ‘Ready’ switch. The scooter rests on a solid understructure equipped with 12-inch alloy wheels, telescopic front forks, twin rear shock absorbers, and a hub-mounted motor. Two battery configurations, 1.8kWh and 3kWh, are likely to be offered. It is also expected to feature full LED lighting, a TFT digital console, and a top speed in the 80km/h range. The well-known multipurpose two-wheeler —Kinetic Luna— is making its return to India in an electric guise. While reservations for the upcoming EV are now open for Rs 500, the price will be revealed tomorrow. To begin with, the history of the OG Kinetic Luna in India spans from the 1970s to the early 2000s. It featured an air-cooled 50cc single-cylinder engine as well as ergonomic pedals that riders could use in case the 4-litre petrol tank ran out. Although the e-Luna's technical specifications are currently unknown, the upcoming moped is anticipated to come with a 2kWh battery pack that will allow a range of about 110 kilometres. A split seat, 16-inch spoke wheels with tubed tyres, and a simple digital instrument readout that displays the trip metres, battery life, speed, and vehicle status are some other noteworthy features.

<h2>Kinetic Luna Electric: Battery and Hardware</h2>

As previously mentioned, the upcoming E-Luna will likely have a range of approximately 110 kilometres with a 2 kWh battery. It is, however, anticipated that the actual range will be closer to 90 kilometres. Its top speed is said to be 50km/h.&nbsp;Though no official announcement has been made, Kinetic Green is likely to provide a smaller battery option in the future to make its two-wheeler more accessible in India's electric market.

The wheelbase of the electric moped is claimed to be 1,335mm, while its ground clearance is rated at 170mm. The electric vehicle's hardware will have two rear springs and telescopic front forks. Moreover, both ends will have drum brakes for braking.

<h2>Kinetic Luna Electric: Expected Price&nbsp;</h2>

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/tvs/xl-100-heavy-duty/">TVS XL</a>, the only other moped currently on the market in the country, is priced between Rs 44,999 and Rs 59,695 (ex-showroom). As of right now, there is no official word on the Kinetic Luna Electric, but it is expected to cost approximately Rs 70,000 (ex-showroom).

Domestic two-wheeler brand, Kinetic, has formed an alliance with British company&nbsp;Norton Motorcycles, to sell the latter’s superbike range in India. The Joint Venture (JV) was announced at the 2017 EICMA in Milan.

Kinetic Group's Motoroyale, which also sells MV Agusta in India, will assemble Norton Motorcycles at Kinetic's manufacturing facility based in Ahmednagar. Local assembly would help Norton bypass excessive import&nbsp;duties and price their motorcycles competitively in India. Additionally, through Kinetic, Norton will also expand its reach to neighbouring countries like Indonesia and Bangladesh.

For those unaware of Norton Motorcycles, it is one of the oldest motorcycle companies, formed in 1898 is Birmingham, UK. The company has a long history of racing involvement as well. Presently, Noton makes four bikes - V4 RR, Dominator, Commando 961 Cafe Racer MK II and Commando 961 Sport MK II. The V4 RR is a 1200cc supersport, while all others are 961cc cafe racers.

The Dominator and Commando are expected to be Norton’s debut models in India, which are powered by a 961cc parallel-twin, fuel injected motor that produces 79bhp and 90Nm. These bikes are expected to arrive in India&nbsp;as CBUs initially. As mentioned, local assembly of these bikes will be commenced by Kinetic soon afterwards.

In its second running this year, the three-day expo comprises an exhibition of national and international brands displaying their products and services in sectors such as clean energy, smart manufacturing, urban planning, e-Governance, green transport, etc. While the show mainly focusses on building future smart and sustainable cities in India, this year it’s also included Smart Transport as part of the program. So what’s in store for the future in terms of sustainable mobility? Let’s take a brief look at some of the ‘smart’ transport solutions from the expo,
Before discussing the future of transport, let’s take a quick backgrounder about this venture. The Smart Cities project was incepted in 2015 by the current ruling government. The initiative took off with the government shortlisting 98 cities and towns from the country to be developed into smart cities. In January 2016, the first 20 cities were further finalized and will receive funds (around Rs 50,800 crores) to start the process of converting them into smart cities. Now, turning a town or city into a ‘smart’ location is no cakewalk, especially in India - it’s a task of gigantic proportions.  The Smart Cities expo in this case serves as a platform that brings all the stakeholders together on a single stage to form alliances.
At the Smart Transportation 2016, it is kind of a given that the future of mobility will greatly depend on eco-friendly vehicles. Naturally, there are electric vehicles, battery and storage systems, alternate fuels, navigation systems, intelligent transport systems, digital parking management, in-car connectivity, etc. on display at the event. Some of the highlights at the event include Lohia Auto’s forthcoming Oma Star Li electric scooter and their e-Autorickshaw concept. The Oma Star electric scooter is already on sale in India, but it currently comes with a lead-acid battery. The Li version replaces that with a lithium-ion battery. As per the manufacturer, it will go on sale by year end and should cost around Rs 45,000 – Rs 50,000. It will have a range of 60km.
Then there was an android-based electric smart car, called Pixy. The diminutive city car has a hybrid powertrain (petrol + electric) and comes with solar charging panels. It also has automatic gull wing doors. As per its maker, auto pilot mode is currently under development for the car.
Kinetic also had their Safar electric auto-rickshaw on display. Claimed to be India’s only ARAI approved electric auto, the Safar can go up to 100km on one charge while it can reach to speeds up to 25km/h. Other interesting solutions at the venue include smart parking solutions, which help you spot a parking space within seconds using your smartphone, and traffic surveillance functions for over-speeding, traffic light violation, lane violation, etc. Overall, the event focuses in making the transportation sector more eco-friendly, less congested and a hassle-free experience – at least in the forthcoming smart cities.
