<p>Following the FAME II subsidy reduction, sales of electric two-wheelers, which had seen a major decline in June of this year, are gradually recovering and have increased in July. Despite the drop in subsidies, two-wheeler sales overall in India went up by more than 11 per cent MoM.&nbsp;The FAME II subsidy was reduced from 40 per cent to 15 per cent, which had an immediate negative effect on the country's EV industry by driving up prices significantly and slowing down sales. Several electric vehicle manufacturers used discount offers as a solution to the problem and to boost sales. This action was a favourable approach to bringing in more buyers. It set forth a new trend in the EV market and increased sales this past month.</p>

<h2>Electric Two-Wheeler Sales: July 2023&nbsp;</h2>

<p>In July 2023, retail sales of electric two-wheelers in India totalled 54,232 units. With an MoM increase of over 11&nbsp;per cent, sales in the said month&nbsp;slightly increased. In July 2023, nearly 90.43 per cent of all registrations were made by the top ten players in the market.&nbsp;Ola Electric continued to hold the top spot in the segment, ahead of TVS Motors, Ather Energy, Bajaj Auto, and Ampere Electric. The top 3 spots are unchanged from the previous month. Ampere Electric lost to Bajaj Auto and came in&nbsp;fifth spot.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Ola Electric</h2>

<p>When compared to June's sales of 17,623 units, Ola&nbsp;Electric, a major player in the electric scooter market, posted remarkable sales of 19,237 units last month. This represents a strong 9 per cent month-on-month gain. The growth not only highlights Ola's robust market share but also places it at the forefront of progress in the rapidly changing automotive market. The maker also continued to hold a sizable market share of 40 per cent in July.</p>

<h2>TVS Motors</h2>

<p>With sales of 10,330 units in July, a significant 31% rise over June's sales of 7,857 units, TVS has shown significant growth. The effectiveness and competitiveness of the iQube&nbsp;in the EV sector are reaffirmed by this success. For last month, the firm commanded a 19 per cent market share.</p>

<h2>Ather Energy</h2>

<p>A prominent competitor in the industry, Ather Energy, saw impressive growth in July, with sales approaching 6,607 units. This remarkable number represents a significant 44 per cent MoM increase from the 4,597 units sold in June. The manufacturer's steady expansion strengthened its standing in the sector, allowing it to attain a 12 per cent market share in the previous month.</p>

<h2>Bajaj Auto</h2>

<p>A trusted name in the auto market, Bajaj Auto, saw a solid 36 per cent MoM rise in July. Sales for the corporation increased from 3,002 units in June to 4,086 units in July, solidifying its place as the dominant player in electric scooters. For the month, Bajaj Chetak obtained an 8 per cent market share.</p>

<h2>Ampere Electric</h2>

<p>Ampere Electric experienced slight but consistent growth last month, with sales increasing from 3,042 units in June to 3,571 units in July. Ampere Electric's rise of 17 per cent month-over-month translated into a 7 per cent market share.</p>

<h2>Okinawa Autotech</h2>

<p>A 14 per cent MoM reduction in sales from 2,619 units in June to 2,263 units in July caused Okinawa Autotech to suffer a minor blow. For the month, the company gained 4% of the market.</p>

<h2>Hero VIDA&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Hero showed staggering progress by delivering 987 VIDA&nbsp;units in July, an impressive 112 per cent rise from June's 465 units. <h2>2023 Okinawa OKHi-90 Electric Scooter: Next-Gen Electric&nbsp;Motor</h2>

<p>In partnership with the Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Tactica, Okinawa has updated the OKHi-90 EV with a new encoder-based motor that promises precise positioning, improved ride quality, better thermal management, and easy servicing. As a result, it ensures improved longevity of the 3.8kW electric motor.</p>

<p>In conjunction with a new electric motor,&nbsp;a 3.6kWh removable lithium-ion battery pack powers the&nbsp;2023 Okinawa OKHi-90. The end result is a claimed riding range of up to 160km on a single charge, while the scooter tops out at 90km/h. Using a regular charger, the vehicle can be fully charged in 5 to 6 hours. Additionally, the&nbsp;OKHi-90 also&nbsp;includes a micro-charger with an auto-cut function and an E-ABS (electronic-assisted braking system) with regenerative energy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the feature front, the electric scooter gets LED lighting, 40-litre boot space, and a coloured digital instrument console with a built-in navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, notification and call alerts, music notifications, time display, etc. Other bits include a low-speed reverse gear, two riding modes (Eco and Sport), a USB port, and mobile app connectivity for real-time battery SOC monitoring, real-time speed monitoring, and on/off notifications.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/okinawa/" target="_blank">Okinawa Autotech</a>&nbsp;has officially announced its plan to build a mega factory in Karoli, Rajasthan, at a staggering cost of Rs 500 crore. It will be the homegrown EV maker's third production facility – it already has&nbsp;two factories operating in Rajasthan. The proposed mega factory will be spread across 30 acres of land and will employ 5,000+ personnel. It will be fully operational from October 2023 onwards.</p>

<p>Once operational, Okinawa claims it will be 'the largest, fully integrated electric two-wheeler plant ever in India.' And by fully integrated, the brand means that the plant will feature high levels of automation for not only the powertrain manufacturing but also plastic part moulding and painting.</p>

<p>The new Karoli facility will also cater to Okinawa's recent joint venture (JV) with Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Tacita (for both domestic and international markets). As per the terms of the JV, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/okinawa/" target="_blank">Okinawa</a> is supposed to provide local assembly operations for a new scooter product line and a high-performance motorcycle (both electric). Both products are due for a 2023 launch.</p>

<p>Sharing his thoughts about the announcement, Jeetender Sharma (Founder &amp; MD, Okinawa Autotech) said, 'As the market leader in the electric two-wheeler segment, we are committed to addressing the most significant issues faced by the sector. The R&amp;D facilities planned in the mega factory will be futuristic to ensure we meet the sector's demand ahead. The mega factory will not only concentrate on the manufacturing of vehicles but&nbsp;also have a supplier park that will take account of motor, controllers, battery packs, and other electrical parts to support the complete EV ecosystem.'</p>

Okinawa announces a 500 crore EV mega factory in Rajasthan

Okinawa Autotech has officially announced its plan to build a 'mega factory' in Karoli, Rajasthan, at a staggering cost of Rs 500 crore. It will be the homegrown EV maker's third production facility, with a capacity of one million units per annum.

<p><strong>Okinawa scooters, mainly the iPraise+ and the Praise Pro have received some attention from EV buyers which has helped the manufacturer achieve a remarkable sales figure before the year ends.</strong></p>

<p>Okinawa, Gurugram based electric scooter maker&nbsp;has crossed the 1 lakh unit sales milestone. The firm confirms that it has been able to achieve this success through its high-speed and low-speed models, mainly the iPraise+ and the Praise Pro electric scooters; which have contributed up to 60-70 per cent of the total sales.</p>

<p>The iPraise+ and Praise Pro are essentially Chinese scooters which are imported to India in kits (CKD) and assembled at Okinawa’s facility.</p>

Okinawa crosses 1 lakh sales milestone

Okinawa scooters, mainly the iPraise+ and the Praise Pro have received some attention from EV buyers which has helped the manufacturer achieve a remarkable sales figure before the year ends.

<p><strong>It is the beginning of the financial year 2021-22 and we have received reports from the two-wheeler manufacturers regarding the sales figure in the previous month as well as the closing of the financial year;&nbsp;Read the details below</strong></p>

<p>This time last year we were in the first phase of the pandemic and the nation-wide lockdown had us curb our savings and disposable income. Not to mention the confusion with the buyers revolving the transition from BS4 to BS6 norms. That said, the manufacturers had the first half of March 2020 at hand to build their sales number and the country was then put in a lockdown. In this span from April 1, 2020, manufacturers have adopted the new emission norms and have constantly updated their product line to attract potential buyers. Following are the sales figures of two-wheelers manufacturers that should give us an idea if things have worked for or against the industry.</p>

<p><strong>Bajaj</strong></p>

<p>Bajaj India has reported a domestic sales figure of 1,81,393 units in the month of March 2021. This&nbsp;happens to be an increase of 81 per cent with respect to the sales figure of March 2020. Interestingly, the company has also reported a growth of 18 per cent with respect to M-o-M (Month-on-Month) sales, as Bajaj managed to sell 1,48,934 units&nbsp;in February 2021. Bajaj India has also exported 1,48,740 units last month making a total of 3,30,133 units sold cumulatively.</p>

<p><strong>Suzuki Two-Wheelers</strong></p>

<p>Suzuki Two-Wheelers India has dispatched 69,942 units from its factory in the month of March 2021 - &nbsp;60,222 units sold domestically, while 9,720 units were exported. If compared to M-o-M sales figures, Suzuki Two-wheelers India sold 71,662 units in February 2021. Considering the M-o-M sales, this month's sales has gone through a downfall of 2.5 per cent. The exports have taken a dip of 20 per cent as well, as the company could only record an export figure of 9,720 units compared to 12,132 units in February 2021. Suzuki Also reports that the company has sold over 589,997 units of two-wheelers in the last financial year.</p>

<p><strong>Honda Two-wheelers</strong></p>

<p>Honda Two wheelers have closed the financial year 2020-21 with a cumulative sales number of 38,65,872 units in the domestic market and 2,07,310 units in exports. In the month of March, 2021, Honda two-wheelers reported a sales figure of 3,95,037 units, however, Honda managed to sell 4,11,578 units in the month of February 2021 - down by 5 per cent. The exports stand at 16,000 units for the past month (March 2021). In all, Honda two-wheelers India has managed to sell 411,037 units in the past month.</p>

<p><strong>Okinawa Electric scooters</strong></p>

<p>Okinawa Electric scooters managed to sell 4,236 units in March 2021 as opposed to 2,895 units in March 2020. In the final quarter of the financial year of 2020-21, Okinawa sold 15,081 units.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Royal Enfield</strong></p>

<p>Royal Enfield has reported a down fall of 13 per cent in the cumulative domestic sales figure of financial year 2020-21 with regard to financial year 2019-20. However, the Y-o-Y sales figures are higher by 54 per cent domestically. With a sales figure of 60,173 units in March 2021 compared to 32,630 units in March 2020. That said, the sales in the past month are down by 4,941 units compared to the sales of February 2021. Royal Enfield has also shipped out 5,885 units in export in March 2021.</p>

<p><strong>Hero Motocorp</strong></p>

<p>Hero Motocorp sold 576,957 units domestically in March 2021, as opposed to 334,647 units in March 2020. Domestically, Hero Motocorp sold 5,44,340 units in March 2021 which is higher than &nbsp;4,84,433 units sold in the month of February 2021. Exports in March 2021 have been set at 32,617 units in March 2021, higher than the month of February 2021 which stood at 21,034 units. Hero Motocorphase sold 57,91,539 units in financial year 2021 which comprises 55,99,930 units of domestic sales and 1,91,609 exports.</p>

<p><strong>TVS Motors</strong></p>

<p>TVS has clocked 8,87,000 units of sale in the financial year 2020-21. In March 2021, TVS motors sold 3,07,437 units of two-wheelers in March 2021 as opposed to Y-o-Y sales of 1,33,988 units in March 2020. That said the company managed to sell 1,95,145 units domestically in the month of February 2021. In the month of February 2021, TVS motors exported 89,436 units. The number grew up to 119,422 units in March 2021.</p>

<p><b>Electric scooter manufacturer Okinawa has decided to use its lithium-ion battery pack, which offers better range and a quicker charge time, in&nbsp;its entire product line-up.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</b></p>

<p>Electric two-wheeler maker Okinawa, which was founded in 2015, has officially announced that the company will be pulling the plug on lead-acid battery packs of its scooters. Okinawa began operations when the electric two-wheeler market was at a more nascent stage in India. Lead-acid battery packs are more affordable than high-tech lithium-ion battery packs, which have become the norm in other electric bikes as well. At the time when Okinawa started selling EVs, a large majority of electric scooters sold in India were powered by lead-acid batteries, but now its time for the shift, given the standing of its competition.</p>

<p>'We are shifting to 100 per cent lithium-ion battery pack based two-wheelers. When we launched the brand, lead-acid was the most advanced option available in the market. Now, with rigorous growth of the industry and the brand, we have taken a step ahead and have discontinued lead-acid battery-pack-based products. Not only will Okinawa products be equipped with lithium-ion battery packs, offering efficiency, but they will also come with detachable batteries ensuring convenience to users,' said Jeetender Sharma- MD and Founder, Okinawa.</p>

<p>Okinawa commenced sales of its products three years ago with the lead-acid battery-powered Okinawa Ridge electric scooter and launched four more lead-acid battery electric scooters in the course of time. Over the years, Okinawa gradually brought in lithium-ion battery electric scooters that can hold more charge, can be quickly charged, and offer longer riding range.</p>

<p>Okinawa focuses on domestic production for its e-scooters, as a result, the brand produces a detachable lithium-ion battery, microprocessor controller, and permanent magnet BLDC motor indigenously.</p>

<p>At the moment, Okinawa has five e-scooter models on sale, which include the R30, Lite, Ridge Plus, Praise Pro, and iPraise, with prices ranging between Rs 59,000 and Rs 1.08 lakh&nbsp;(ex-showroom).</p>

<p>Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa has announced the start of its doorstep delivery&nbsp;service of e-scooters in Bengaluru, starting 15th August 2020. The initiative will be introduced in more cities across the country in the coming months, however, it is subject to the response&nbsp;received by the service in Bengaluru.</p>

<p>The doorstep delivery service will be offered to Okinawa customers free of cost, meaning no additional charges will be added to the E-scooter's cost. <p>The doorstep delivery program, combined with the online booking initiative, also completes the chain of the contact-less product purchasing process, started by multiple Indian manufacturers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>

<p>Sharing his thoughts on the matter,&nbsp;Mr&nbsp;Jeetender Sharma (MD &amp;&nbsp;Founder -&nbsp;Okinawa) said, 'With the COVID-19 outbreak, it is understood that there is a dire need of change in the operations...the new doorstep-delivery service would ensure that the customer does not have to travel outside to receive their product. Also, proper sanitization of the product would be ensured along with the temperature-check of the delivery person.'</p>

Okinawa begins doorstep delivery of e-scooters in Bengaluru

Okinawa has announced the start of its doorstep delivery service of e-scooters in Bengaluru, starting 15th August 2020. The initiative will be introduced in more cities across the country in the coming months, however, it is subject to the response received by the service in Bengaluru.

<p><b>Okinawa to launch its first 100 per cent locally made two-wheeler in India. Badged as the Oki100, it will be powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and will have a top speed of 100 km/h. </b></p>

<p>Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa has announced that the company will be launching a new EV in the third quarter of the 2020-21 financial year. This will be Okinawa’s first 100 per cent made in India bike for India, which is why the company has decided to call it the Oki100. Now while Okinawa says that the Oki100 will be completely made in India, its lithium-ion battery cells will be imported. Regardless, it’s still commendable that Okinawa has worked to make the rest of the electric two-wheeler completely in India.</p>

<p>Okinawa has not revealed much else about the upcoming Oki100, but the company has said is that the bike will be capable of reaching 100km/h and that it will have a lithium-ion battery pack. The prototype for the Oki100 was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in Greater Noida.</p>

<p>The Oki100 is the starting point for Okinawa to introduce a range of 100 per cent locally made two-wheelers in India.</p>

<p>“We welcome PM Modi’s vision of ‘vocal for local’. To accelerate the same Okinawa has announced a 100 per cent ‘Make in India’ electric bike. Currently, Okinawa offers maximum localization of electric vehicles, which is 88%. With our upcoming electric bike, we are taking the localization level up to 100 %. All the components of&nbsp;electric motorcycle will be manufactured and sourced from local suppliers. We expect this to boost local suppliers’ domain and inspire all the EV start-ups to go ‘Vocal for local’,” said Jeetender Sharma- MD, Okinawa.</p>

<p>Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa becomes the next manufacturer in line to pass on the recent GST rate reduction benefits to its customers. The rate cut (from 12 per cent to 5 per cent) has resulted in a price drop of ₹ 2,500 – ₹ 4,700 on Okinawa's VRLA (Valve-regulated Lead-Acid) battery models (Ridge, Praise &amp; Ridge30). Meanwhile, the advanced Li-ion battery models (I-Praise+ and Ridge+) will see a greater price reduction of ₹ 3,400 – ₹ 8,600 due to the inclusion of FAME-II subsidies.</p>

<p>Sharing his thoughts on the GST Council's welcome move, Mr Jeetender Sharma, Founder &amp; MD at Okinawa Autotech Pvt Ltd, said, ‘The Union budget gave a much-needed push to the EV industry and the GST rate cut is even more welcoming. The 7 per cent GST reduction has reduced the upfront cost of buying an Okinawa scooter by ₹ 2,500 – ₹ 8,600. This, coupled with FAME-II subsidies, will take a significant chunk out of the acquisition price, making our range of scooters strong options for urban commuters.’</p>

<p>Okinawa was also one of the first electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India to achieve compliance for FAME-II incentives. The models eligible for the FAME-II subsidies belong to Okinawa's Li-ion line-up, the I-Praise+ and the Ridge+.</p>

Okinawa e-scooters become more affordable with GST rate cut

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa becomes the next manufacturer in line to pass on the recent GST rate reduction benefits to its customers. The rate cut (from 12 per cent to 5 per cent) has resulted in a price drop of ₹ 2,500 – ₹ 8,600.

<p><em><strong>With this achievement, Okinawa becomes the first electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country to become eligible for customer price rebates under the FAME-II initiative.</strong></em></p>

<p>Recently, the Government of India announced certain guidelines under the FAME-II initiative that dictate the subsidy amount applicable on an electric two-wheeler. While every kind of battery-powered vehicle was earlier eligible for a subsidy under FAME-I, FAME-II guidelines dictate that only vehicles powered by advanced batteries (like those made of Lithium-ion) will be eligible for the rebate benefits. Industry reports suggest that due to this guideline&nbsp;overhaul, nearly 95 per cent of the electric two-wheelers&nbsp;sold in India have become ineligible for the incentives.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, despite&nbsp;this crucial change in place, Okinawa Scooters has announced that it has become the first electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India to get the FAME-II subsidy/rebate compliance certificate from the Automotive&nbsp;Research Association of India (ARAI), which will allow it to pass on price rebates&nbsp;to its customers on select products. Products eligible under this certification belong to Okinawa's Lithium-ion range – the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/okinawa-i-praise-scooter-launched-in-india-at-115-lakh-105374/">i-Praise</a> and the <a href="https://www.autox.com/track-test/okinawa-ridge-track-test-104952/">Ridge+</a>. Further, the subsidy amount will range between&nbsp;₹ 17,000 and&nbsp;₹ 26,000, depending on the kWh rating of the battery used in the product.</p>
