<p>Yamaha’s entry into the electric space in India has been a long time coming. And now that it’s here, the brand hasn’t taken the conventional route of going all-in on one headline-grabbing product. Instead, it has entered the field with two different machines – the sporty Aerox E and the more utilitarian EC-06. I recently had the chance to ride both scooters, and while I have already published my thoughts on the Aerox E, it is now time to talk about the EC-06.</p><p>

    <p><br></p><p>Even the underseat storage is not as large as the Indie's, at 24.5 litres. It is large enough to keep a smaller helmet. As a result of these changes, the EC-06 does not feel as utilitarian as the Indie.</p><p>Despite my limited time with the scooter, the seat felt more comfortable than the Indie's. I do like that Yamaha has gone with switches for operating the charging flap and seat lock.</p><p>

    <p><br></p><p>The Indie requires you to use the key in several places to access these individually. What really stood out, though, was the overall build quality. The EC-06 feels a notch above the River offering and even most startup-driven scooters. Panel gaps are consistent, and the paint quality looks and feels premium.</p><h2>Yamaha EC-06 Review: Performance &amp; Handling</h2><p>On paper, the EC-06 has the same power and torque figures as the Indie but has a lower top speed of 79km/h, compared to Indie’s 90km/h. Out on the road, however, the difference isn’t particularly noticeable, especially in the city.</p><p>

    <p><br></p><p>You get to pick from three modes, and while the response in Eco mode is rather slow, the pace is much better in the other two. The EC-06 accelerates briskly and should make overtaking jobs in the city a fairly easy affair. Despite being down on numbers compared to the Aerox E, I was surprised to find that the EC-06 delivered better acceleration and felt much more engaging to ride.</p><p>

    <p><br></p><p>I was also pleasantly surprised by the suspension performance. While it has the same hardware as the Indie, the damping feels better here. It manages to soak up the undulations somewhat better. It is not the most comfortable scooter in the segment, but it does offer a respectable ride quality.</p><p>

Some of the credit for that also goes to the 14-inch tyres, which are fairly wide, resulting in a larger contact patch.</p><h2>Yamaha EC-06 Review: Verdict</h2><p>The EC-06 might not be the flashiest electric scooter in Yamaha’s line-up, but it feels like a well-rounded and thoughtfully executed product. It doesn’t rely on gimmicks or headline features. Instead, it focuses on the basics – decent performance, good ride quality, and solid build. It does not just feel like a good scooter in the Yamaha lineup; it feels like a solid offering in the EV space, period.</p><p>

But spend some time with it, and you begin to see where that money is going – refinement, fit and finish, and a sense of polish that’s often missing in this segment. In a space filled with ambitious newcomers, the EC-06 takes a more measured approach. It may not shout for attention, but it quietly makes a strong case for itself. And in the long run, that might just work in its favour.</p><p>

Yamaha EC-06 First Ride Review: Hitting the Bullseye

Is the EC-06 the smarter Yamaha EV to buy over the Aerox E? We ride the more practical sibling to find out if it makes a stronger real-world case.

<p>Scooters are usually considered to be practical tools and often have a boring image. However, every now and then, an offering comes along that breaks free from conventional roles and does things differently. For Yamaha, that scooter was the Aerox 155. It looked different, rode differently, and did not give a hoot about practicality. And yet, it was a hit amongst the younger crowds. Yamaha is now gearing up to launch the electric version of the scooter, the Aerox E. So, does the Japanese automaker have another ace up its sleeve?</p><h2>Yamaha Aerox E: Ergonomics and Practicality</h2><p>The design and physical footprint of the Aerox E are very similar to those of the internal combustion engine-powered counterpart. I did find the ergonomics somewhat odd. You sit rather high up relative to the handlebars, resulting in a riding position that takes some time to get used to. The seat cushion is angled and keeps pushing the rider into the handlebars.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>While it is great to see that you get keyless operation and that most of the controls are in one place, I did not like the feel of the buttons for opening the charging lid and the seat. They feel rather rubbery and can be harder to operate with gloves on. The underseat storage space is rather less, due to the presence of the removable batteries (more on that later).</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>You can still keep a rather small bag here or some papers. There is a storage compartment on the left side of the apron that also has a charger. While in the ICE-powered Aerox, one would open the flap to fill with petrol, in the electric version, it hides the charging port and a cavity to hold the charger.&nbsp; All in all, the Aerox E is not a practical or sensible offering, like its ICE-powered counterpart, but it could have had somewhat better ergonomics.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>You get a 5-inch colour TFT instrument cluster that is functional, but I do feel that it pales in comparison to the fancy touchscreens seen on competitor models.</p><h2>Yamaha Aerox E: Performance and Handling</h2><p>On paper, the Aerox E makes more power and torque than the EC-06, Yamaha's other EV offering, which has a higher top speed of 95.5km/h (with Boost) and even a sporty pedigree. So, I was expecting this scooter to impress mightily with its performance. Unfortunately, that wasn't exactly the case.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>When you twist the accelerator, the scooter thinks for a little while before delivering power. This is rather reminiscent of EVs of days gone by and not a trait I expected to see in this package. Once you do get rolling, however, there is decent grunt to keep you on the move. But I was really surprised to find the Aerox E's acceleration less impressive than the more utilitarian EC-06's. There are three riding modes, and I was mostly testing the Aerox E in the most powerful one. Using the Boost Mode helps things along, but  this is a momentary surge in power and needs time to recharge once used.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

      The ride quality is decent compared to the regular Aerox, but the suspension still tends to bottom out on bumps and potholes; this is especially true of the front forks. At slower speeds, the absorption levels are a little better. Even though the braking setup consists of disc brakes on both wheels and single-channel ABS, the performance feels a little lacking. The bite from the setup is not nearly as good as one would expect. Yamaha has also thrown in traction control, which is a nice safety net to have, but not really necessary. You can switch it off if you so wish.</div>

    <p>With the Aerox E, Yamaha is taking the swappable battery route. There are two 1.5kWh units that can be charged outside the scooter or even when they are plugged in (thankfully!) However, each battery pack is rather heavy, and you will have to put your back into lifting them. Once again, it feels like something you would have encountered in the lead-acid battery era of EVs.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>The 117km IDC range figure is not confidence-inspiring either. I did not have enough time to do a range test, but I can safely bet that in the real world, that figure will be closer to 70-75km. So, if you were planning on taking the Aerox E for your long office commutes, you might have to charge on almost daily.</p><h2>Yamaha Aerox E: Verdict</h2><p>Perhaps my expectations were a little too high for the Aerox E, given the reputation of its petrol-powered namesake, leaving me feeling a little underwhelmed by what was ultimately presented. The scooter undoubtedly looks good and has a decent amount of rider aids.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

Yamaha Aerox E First Ride Review: The Right EVolution?

Can the Yamaha Aerox E manage to impress the performance-hungry crowds in the same way that the petrol-powered iteration did?

<p>Yamaha has revealed the 2026 Tricity 300 scooter with a new airbag feature. This is not a regular update, as it brings a safety system usually seen in cars. The integrated rider airbag, developed with Autoliv, is placed in the front apron and is designed to deploy during frontal impacts. It makes the Tricity 300 the first production scooter in the world to get this feature. For daily riders in busy city traffic, this adds an extra layer of protection. The design has been updated to match the new hardware, with a sharper and more compact front fairing. It rides on 14-inch wheels with tubeless tyres, supported by double telescopic forks at the front and a unit swingarm at the rear. </p><p>Braking is handled by discs on all three wheels, supported by a Brake Control system, IMU, cornering ABS, and a Unified Braking System. It also gets a Standing Assist System to keep the scooter upright at stops. The scooter will go on sale in Europe in the second quarter of 2026.</p>

2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 Scooter Revealed with Airbag

The 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 gets a sharp new design, three-wheel leaning tech, and a 292cc engine with 28hp and 29Nm, now meeting Euro5+ norms.

<p>Yamaha has updated the price of the<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/yamaha/xsr-155/"> Yamaha XSR155</a> in India, and the neo-retro machine now costs more across the range. The revised ex-showroom prices start at Rs 1.49 lakh and go up to Rs 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the colour you pick. This change replaces the earlier introductory pricing and applies to all variants currently on sale. At the same time, Yamaha has added a new Metallic Black shade, giving buyers another reason to look twice at this 155cc motorcycle. With this addition, the XSR155 is now available in five colours: Metallic Black, Metallic Blue, Vivid Red, Metallic Grey and Greyish Green Metallic.</p><p>

Metallic Blue continues as the most affordable option in the catalogue. Apart from the colour update and price revision, Yamaha has not made any mechanical or structural changes to the motorcycle.</p><p>Powering the XSR155 is a 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation. It produces 18.1bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. The motor comes paired with a six-speed gearbox that includes an assist and slipper clutch. The bike continues to use a Deltabox frame, aluminium swingarm and rear monoshock setup.</p><p>

On paper, it’s an attractive combination – one that seems to be more accessible, both in terms of usability and price. Spend some time with the bike, though, and it becomes clear that while the ingredients are spot on, the final dish is not entirely free of compromises.</p>

<p>The quality of switchgear is good, and the quirky placement of controls on either side of the instrument cluster is quite clever – something that I personally like. These buttons allow you to navigate through the menu and reset certain data. The single pod LCD instrument cluster keeps things refreshingly simple and effective – it’s easy to read, neatly laid out, and free of unnecessary visual noise. That said, the placement of the horn switch is frustrating. It sits between the indicator and the light switch, forcing you to glance down to locate it – something that you shouldn’t have to do in traffic.</p>







<p>In terms of proportion, the bike looks a bit compact, but that works to its advantage. It feels unintimidating and approachable, especially for newer riders. Taller riders – those over six feet – may find it a bit snug, but the footpeg position is not as cramped as that of the MT-15. Now, while I usually avoid discussing accessories, here I must. Yamaha offers a range of add-ons that can transform the XSR into either a scrambler or a cafe racer. For those who like their bikes with a little visual flair, the XSR clearly ticks the right boxes.</p>

<h2>Yamaha XSR 155 Engine Performance &amp; Refinement: Familiar, Yet Flawed</h2>

<p>Now, coming to the 155cc liquid-cooled engine – on paper, it produces the same output as the R15, but out on the road, the bike does not feel as impressive. Yes, it’s decently fast, and even with a pillion passenger on board, you can get through the city without a hiccup. However, it lacks top-end performance, something you notice more clearly on the highway or when chasing speed.</p>

<p>Push the bike harder, and the shortcomings in terms of refinement become quite evident. Once you cross 4,500rpm, vibrations start creeping in through the handlebars and footpegs. The mirrors, too, begin to buzz to the point where they are barely usable. Considering how smooth and engaging the same engine feels in the other bikes, its performance here is quite disappointing.</p>







<p>The exhaust note also fails to match the bike’s visual promise. It lacks the bass and character you expect from a modern-retro motorcycle. Fuel efficiency, however, is a strong point. This is one trait that has carried over from the R15 and the MT-15, with real-world figures hovering between 50 and 55km/l in city traffic. This makes the XSR an easy and economical daily companion.</p>





<h2>Yamaha XSR 155 Ride Comfort, Ergonomics &amp; Everyday Usability</h2>

<p>At just 137kg, the bike feels featherlight, making it a breeze in city traffic, easy to manoeuvre at parking speeds, and generally stress-free to live with. The mirrors are large, well-positioned, and actually useful most of the times – a rarity in this segment. However, comfort is a sore point. The tuck-and-roll seat looks the part but feels rock hard. A few kilometres on the saddle, and you’ll find yourself shifting around just to stay comfortable.</p>

<p>While the flat seat doesn’t allow the pillion passenger to tower over the rider, it’s not very spacious. The rear suspension feels overly stiff, especially for lighter riders, and the front brake lacks bite despite the hardware on offer.</p>

<h2>Yamaha XSR 155 Price, Rivals &amp; Verdict: Where the XSR 155 Stands</h2>

<p>Pricing is where things get complicated. Compared to the R15 and MT-15, the XSR 155 seems to offer good value. After all, you get the same engine in a more relaxed, rider-friendly package at a lower price point. But line it up against rivals like the Royal Enfield Hunter or TVS Ronin, and the narrative shifts drastically. Those bikes offer larger engines, better exhaust notes, and comparable performance for similar money.</p>

<p>That said, Yamaha’s fit and finish and overall quality do justify part of the premium. Even so, a slightly more aggressive price tag could have made the XSR far more compelling. It is, in fact, very close to being the ideal modern-retro 155. It looks fantastic, offers excellent fuel economy, and is genuinely easy to live with. But vibrations, comfort issues, and a few dynamic limitations hold it back.
