    The upper middle class is a bit like the middle child of the modern world. Too "poor" for business class, yet not ordinary enough to fly economy. Can afford a penthouse, but can’t quite gather the gumption to buy an independent villa. Permanently stuck in the neither-here-nor-there zone.</p>





<p>Car buying isn’t any easier for this lot. This buyer doesn’t want your usual Cretas, Seltos, or XUVs. But splurging a fortune on a full-blown German luxury barge? That feels excessive. And they’re far too savvy to be swayed by entry-level Audi, BMW, or Merc luxury cars – because those often feel like badge-first, product-second propositions.</p><p>So, for anyone shopping in the ₹35–60 lakh bracket, the options – across body styles – are surprisingly slim. Strip EVs out of the equation, and Toyota practically has a monopoly. Sedan? Camry. That’s it. MPV? Innova Hycross, unchallenged. SUV? The Fortuner still rules the roost.</p>

<p>Few carmakers have dared to take on Toyota here. But now, the Germans are finally showing signs of resistance. Skoda brought back the Kodiaq in 2025, and Volkswagen has entered the ring with the new Tayron R-Line.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

<h2>Volkswagen Tayron R-Line&nbsp;Exterior Design</h2>

<p>If the Tayron looks familiar, that’s because it is. Its design closely mirrors the Tiguan R-Line – sleek, sporty, and understated. It doesn’t scream for attention, but it has presence.
      
     R-Line touches like the bold grille, strong proportions, and 19-inch alloys give it a clean yet commanding stance.</p><p>

    </p><p>The illuminated VW logo and light bar at the front and rear add some visual drama – arguably, the only slightly flashy bits in an otherwise subtle design. The real difference from the Tiguan lies in the size. Because of the additional row of seats, the wheelbase has stretched to 2,789mm – 109mm longer than the Tiguan.</p><p>

    </p><p>At 4,792mm, the Tayron is a substantial 253mm longer overall. In profile, it looks noticeably bigger, with long overhangs that make it appear more estate-like than SUV-ish.</p>







<h2>Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Interior &amp; Features</h2>

<p>Inside, it’s classic Volkswagen. Doors shut with a reassuring thud, materials feel solid, and ergonomics are spot-on. The dashboard is dominated by a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s crisp, responsive, and easy to navigate.</p><p>

    </p><p>What’s less impressive is the heavy reliance on touch controls for most functions – not the most intuitive setup on the move. The all-black theme feels premium but also makes the cabin feel a bit closed in.</p><p>In terms of creature comforts, VW has clearly learned from the Tiguan R-Line’s shortcomings and has loaded the Tayron to the gills. </p><p>

<h2>Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Comfort and Practicality </h2>

<p>On paper, the Tayron’s headline USP is the third row. In reality, like the old Tiguan AllSpace, this is a 5+2, not a true 7-seater. The third row is tight.</p><p>

    </p><p>Anyone an inch above 5 ft. will struggle, and the lack of a one-touch tumble function makes accessing the third row hard work. The dark interior doesn’t help either. This set of seats is best reserved for short city runs or kids. The second row, however, is far more accommodating. There’s generous legroom, good under-thigh support, and enough space for adults on long drives.</p><p>

<h2>Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Engine &amp; Performance</h2>

<p>Under the hood sits the familiar 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 201bhp and 320Nm, paired with a 7-speed DSG and AWD.</p><p>

    </p><p>This engine is classic VW – refined, eager, and free-revving. It pulls strongly through the low and mid-range, and when pushed, it races to the redline without strain, accompanied by a raspy induction note. The DSG complements it beautifully with quick, smooth shifts and little gear hunting.</p><p>Performance is brisk. 0–100km/h comes up in 7.3 seconds, and if you keep your right foot planted to the floor, it’ll reach a top speed of 224km/h, provided you find a road long enough.</p><p>

    </p><p>The downside? Fuel efficiency. If you see double-digit km/l figures, treat it as a personal achievement. A diesel in this application is sorely missed.</p><p>A big improvement over the Tiguan R-Line is ride quality. The suspension has been retuned for Indian conditions, and it shows. Low-speed ride is far more forgiving, while high-speed composure remains excellent. The Kodiaq still feels a touch more supple, but the Tayron is no longer brittle. The secondary ride can feel slightly choppy over rough patches, though. Where the Tayron really shines is handling.</p><p>

    </p><p>It feels taut, responsive, and remarkably agile for its size. Body control is excellent, grip levels are high, and it shrinks around you when you start driving enthusiastically. </p><p>VW has managed to retain the Tiguan R-Line’s dynamic character while adding more space and comfort – quite impressive. That said, DCC or adaptive dampers aren’t being offered in India. Not a dealbreaker per se, but would have been nice to get an extra layer of adjustability.</p>













<h2>Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Verdict</h2>

<p>Volkswagen hasn’t announced prices yet, but since it’s locally assembled, expect a sticker of just under Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). At that price, its main rivals will be the Kodiaq and the Fortuner. Compared to the Kodiaq, the Tayron feels more modern, gets extra features, and is the more engaging SUV to drive. Against the Fortuner, it loses out on brand image, a diesel engine, and Toyota’s bulletproof reputation.</p><p>

So, unless you’re planning a future in politics – where a Fortuner is practically a uniform – there’s very little objective reason to pick it over the Tayron. For the upper-middle-class buyer stuck in automotive limbo, the Tayron R-Line might just be the sweet spot.

Find the Fortuner too crude? Too discerning to fall for the entry-level luxury car trap? The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, then, is made for you.

    At a time when poor AQI dominates prime-time headlines, introducing a drop-top convertible might seem hopelessly out of touch. But Mini India doesn’t care one bit, which is why the Cooper S Convertible has returned to our roads. If we’re all destined to go out choking, you might as well do it in style, right? Honestly speaking – no matter how tone-deaf it sounds – I’m completely on board with that philosophy!</p>

<h2>Mini Cooper S Convertible Design </h2>

<p>The Mini Cooper is one of the most recognisable shapes in the automotive world, and it also happens to be the most revered nameplate in Mini’s global lineup. The convertible version doesn’t dilute that identity one bit. In fact, it amplifies it. It has the same familiar ingredients, the same unmistakable design DNA, and plenty of X-factor. I’d even go so far as to say it’s cooler than the regular three-door Cooper – simply because it’s a soft-top.</p><p>

You can also open it partially, using it like a large sunroof, which is perfect if you want a bit of fresh air without fully committing to open-top motoring.</p><h2>Mini Cooper S Convertible Engine and Performance</h2><p>Powering the Cooper S Convertible is BMW’s familiar 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It produces 201bhp and 300Nm of torque, which may not sound like much, but for a pint-sized drop-top, those are solid numbers.</p><p>

    </p><p> Mini claims it can do the 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.9 seconds – not quick-quick but quite brisk. The drive goes to the front-wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and top speed is electronically limited to 240km/h.</p>







<p>I drove the car in and around Jaisalmer, where you get a mix of long straights, some bumpy sections, moderate city traffic, and some lovely winding roads. Surprisingly, it felt right at home. The engine is super refined, with the transmission complementing it with smooth and swift shifts.</p><p>

    </p><p>There’s a noticeable bit of torque steer during full-bore acceleration runs, but nothing hairy, really. It adds a bit of theatre to the driving experience. The exhaust is muted – a bit of a downer – though sportier profiles (modes), especially Go-Kart, add piped-in engine noise through the speakers.</p><h2>Mini Cooper S Convertible Suspension Comfort and Handling</h2><p>Interestingly, it not only felt plenty fast but also absorbed road imperfections quite adeptly. Sure, it doesn’t have a magic-carpet ride, but it’s not a spine-crusher either. However, at slow speeds around town, the suspension shows its ’sporty’ side. It’s firm, and combined with the short wheelbase, the car doesn’t feel particularly surefooted when you encounter undulations.</p><p>

<p>Handling is sharp and predictable, and it turns in like a go-kart, indeed. However, the steering wheel is as lively as a dead fish – it feels numb and offers little to no feedback. Adding to that sense of detachment is the absence of paddle shifters, which is disappointing in a performance-oriented car like this.</p>





<h2>Mini Cooper S Convertible Interior, Space and Features</h2>

<p>The cabin features the signature Mini design elements, including the knitted dashboard and the chunky Mini steering wheel. The large circular infotainment system is a highlight – it’s crisp, high-definition, and works seamlessly. </p><p>

<h2>Mini Cooper S Convertible Review Verdict</h2>

<p>Mini is positioning the Cooper S Convertible as a lifestyle product infused with classic Mini DNA, and in that respect, it ticks almost all the right boxes. It delivers performance, carries an undeniable cool factor, wears an iconic badge, and promises open-top fun in a compact package.</p><p>

Mini Cooper S Convertible First Drive Review - Air Time

In an era of worsening air quality, launching a drop-top seems odd. Yet Mini India has reintroduced the Cooper S Convertible. We drove it to find out more.

<p>While the Chetak EV had a rocky start, it has gone from
strength to strength over the past six years, helping propel Bajaj to second
place in India’s electric two-wheeler market. The Chetak models have always
prioritised a no-nonsense approach, deliberately steering clear of spec-sheet
one-upmanship.</p>
<p>Now, there is a new model in town: the Chetak C2501, or the
C25. It takes the same approach but with a more accessible price tag. This
time, however, Bajaj may have taken the idea of choosing restraint over spec-sheet
numbers a step too far.</p><h2>Bajaj Chetak C25 Design: Familiar Styling with Subtle Changes</h2><p>First and foremost, what I like most about the C25 is its design. Bajaj has made
only minimal changes to the overall styling, but the more compact footprint and
subtly revised contours work in the scooter’s favour. </p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>Unlike the existing models, the C25 features LED turn
indicators integrated into the headlamp housing rather than mounted on the
front apron. This is a notable change, although not one I am particularly fond
of. The scooter features 12-inch wheels at both ends, and the revised
alloy-wheel design looks good. The side panel incorporates a graphic element
near the  section, but it appears somewhat tacked on. Had the graphics
extended further along the side panel, the design might have felt more
cohesive.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>At the rear, the C25 receives a new tail-lamp&nbsp;unit with
integrated turn indicators, and here the design works well. Bajaj has also
retained the all-metal bodywork, with no visible screws – a detail that
continues to lend the Chetak a sense of solidity and premium finish.</p>
<p>The instrument cluster is a colour display, though it stops
short of being a full-fledged TFT like those found on some rival scooters. It
is functional, but I did find certain information difficult to read under
direct sunlight. </p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>On a more positive note, the handlebar switchgear has seen a
clear improvement. The switches are thoughtfully designed, fall easily to hand,
and offer a reassuring tactile feel.</p><h2>Bajaj Chetak C25 Space, Comfort and Everyday Usability</h2><p>The C25 has a shorter wheelbase than the existing models – 1,225mm,
to be precise – and this has resulted in a noticeable reduction in underseat
storage. You get 25 litres of space, which is just about enough to accommodate
certain full-facehelmets. </p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>Because the cavity is fairly deep, you can also stash a
small bag here. Additionally, there are two pockets in the front apron for
smaller items, along with a baggage hook. There is no USB charger, which, I
think, is a significant omission.</p><p>The seat is long enough to accommodate two average-built
adults, but the cushioning is on the softer side. As a result, longer stints on
the saddle are unlikely to be particularly comfortable. </p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>The seat height is a very accessible 763mm, while the 170mm
ground clearance is adequate for everyday use. Surprisingly, despite its
compact proportions, there is ample floorboard space to keep your feet in a
neutral, comfortable position.</p><h2>Bajaj Chetak C25 Battery Range, Motor Output and Ride Modes</h2><p><span>Bajaj
has equipped the C25 with a 3bhp hub-mounted motor, which produces a peak
torque of 114Nm at the wheel. </span></p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>Top speed is limited to 55km/h, which is underwhelming. Once
again, we have a Chetak with a lower top speed than most of its rivals. Even if
you look past that figure, the scooter’s acceleration is also nothing to write
home about.</p>
<p>Opt for the Tech Pack, and you get two ride modes – Eco and
Sport. Acceleration in the Eco mode feels far too mild for real-world road use,
but Sport mode does inject a bit more life into the scooter, relatively

    <p>Overall, the C25 moves with very little urgency and is
clearly tuned for relaxed, unhurried commuting. That said, it had no trouble
tackling the inclines I encountered during my ride in Pune, whether in the Eco
or Sport mode.</p>
<p>Powering the scooter is a 2.5kWh battery, which Bajaj claims
delivers a range of 113km (IDC). According to the company, the real-world range
should be closer to 95km. While I did not have sufficient time to verify that
claim, the range still does not feel particularly impressive, especially considering
the modest top speed and the reasonably sized battery pack.</p><h2>Bajaj Chetak C25 Suspension, Comfort and Braking</h2><p>The C25’s overall ride quality is rather poor. This is
largely down to the new suspension setup, which comprises conventional
telescopic forks at the front and twin springs at the rear.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>While the scooter rides reasonably well on smooth tarmac and
can absorb minor imperfections, it becomes unforgiving on rougher city roads. A
short 30-minute ride through Pune was enough to leave me feeling like my insides
had been rearranged. The front forks bottom out over most bumps, with very
little absorption to speak of. This is particularly surprising given that
existing Chetak scooters are known for their cushioned and compliant ride

    <p>The braking setup consists of a disc brake at the front and
a drum brake at the rear. Braking is fairly progressive and offers good bite
when you use the full travel of the levers. However, braking performance feels inconsistent across different units. Having ridden multiple units of the scooter,
I experienced noticeable variations in braking feel. When the calibration is
right, the scooter stops confidently; when it isn’t, the braking can feel
underwhelming and vague.</p><h2>Bajaj Chetak C25 Price and Review Verdict</h2><p>The C25 is the most affordable Chetak scooter, and it
achieves that position by making substantial compromises in the ride
experience. Yes, it has a certain visual appeal and commendable build quality.
However, when you consider the specifications offered by competing products at
similar price points, it is hard to escape the conclusion that Bajaj has missed
the mark with this one.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>Had it been priced ₹10,000 – 15,000 lower, these compromises
would have been far easier to justify. Perhaps Bajaj realised this as well and
has consequently offered the first 10,000 customers a discount of ₹4,299,
bringing the ex-showroom price down to ₹87,100. While this is still higher than
it ought to be, it does represent a move in the right direction.</p>

Bajaj Chetak C25 First Ride Review: Losing the Numbers Game?

The new Bajaj Chetak C25 embraces a back-to-basics philosophy, but in today’s numbers-obsessed EV scooter market, that approach could cost it dearly.

    Back in 2019, Kia made its Indian debut with the Seltos – a disruptor designed to take on the segment-defining Hyundai Creta. It succeeded remarkably, clocking over 5.8 lakh units in just over six years. However, the goalposts have moved. The C-segment SUV market has exploded in volume, and the competition has intensified further with the arrival of the Tata Sierra and the impending launch of the Renault Duster. In response, Kia has skipped the facelift route and gone straight for a bold, second-generation overhaul. We headed to Bangalore to see if this new iteration can shift the status quo once again.</p>

<h2>New Kia Seltos Platform and Design: Bigger, Stronger, More Muscular</h2>

<p>The most significant change lies beneath the skin. This isn’t a mere evolution; it carries over almost nothing from its predecessor. Built on the brand’s global K3 platform, the Seltos has grown by 95mm, stretching to nearly 4,460mm in length. This growth spurt, coupled with a wheelbase extended by 80mm to 2,690mm, gives it a significantly more commanding presence on the tarmac.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>Crucially, the K3 platform brings a stiffer structural frame. According to Kia, the new architecture delivers vastly improved torsional rigidity. This isn’t just a marketing buzzword in this instance; it’s a fundamental shift that improves crash protection - with six airbags now standard across all trims - and provides a more stable foundation for the improved suspension. This structural integrity allows for better weight distribution and lower NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels, which was a point of criticism in the previous generation.</p>







<p>Visually, the styling is unapologetically muscular, adopting the Opposites United philosophy seen on all the latest Kias. The massive Digital Tiger Face grille dominates the fascia, flanked by DRLs pushed to the outer edges to emphasise width. The new Star Map LED lighting signature at both ends creates a high-tech look. The 18-inch crystal-cut alloys fill the arches perfectly, lending it an athletic stance. Gone are the soft curves of the previous car, replaced by flat surfaces and sharp, aggressive lines. At the rear is a full-width LED light bar that is instantly recognisable at night.</p>





<h2>Kia Seltos Interior Review: Tech-Loaded, Premium and More Spacious</h2>

<p>Step inside, and the leap in quality is startling. The cabin follows the new design language debuted in the Syros, centred around the Trinity Panoramic Display. This single curved housing integrates twin 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, but adds a third, dedicated 5-inch HVAC touch panel in between. It strikes a rare balance between futuristic tech and ergonomic common sense.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

<p>Thankfully, Kia hasn’t fallen into the trap of all-touch controls. Physical shortcut buttons are present for essential menus, a refreshing choice in an era where even headlight controls are increasingly buried in sub-menus. The materials used are top-tier; from the soft-touch dashboard finish to the tactile feedback of the knurled switchgear, the Seltos feels more premium than anything else in its class. In fact, the fit and finish now rival SUVs from a segment above.</p><p>Space, too, has seen a marked improvement. That 80mm increase in wheelbase translates directly into segment-leading rear legroom.</p><p>

    The rear seats have been redesigned with improved under-thigh support and a reclining function. Kia’s ‘human-centric’ approach is evident in the smaller details – USB Type-C ports are cleverly housed in the side bolsters of the front seats for easy access by rear passengers, and the rear windows now feature integrated sunblinds for added comfort.</p>







<p>A particularly neat trick on the top-spec trims is the proximity key sensor. As you approach the vehicle with the key in your pocket, the flush-fitting door handles automatically pop out - a feature usually reserved for luxury EVs.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

<h2>Kia Seltos 1.5 Turbo Petrol First Drive: Refinement, Ride and Handling</h2>

<p>While the platform and skin are brand-new, Kia has opted for an ‘old wine in a new bottle’ approach regarding the powertrains. The familiar 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, and the punchy 1.5-litre turbo-petrol remain on offer. However, they have been refined to meet the latest emission standards while offering better efficiency.</p><div style="width: 100%; height: auto;" class="post-image">

    <p>We spent our time with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (158bhp/253Nm) paired with the 7-speed DCT. The gearbox is a tad slow at takeoff – to protect itself from excessive stress – but works well otherwise. Once on the move, it is seamless and lightning-fast. The NVH levels are excellent; the cabin is a hushed environment, well-isolated from Bangalore’s chaotic traffic.</p>







<p>Crucially, Kia has listened to feedback regarding the previous generation’s firm ride. The suspension has been softened just enough to improve low-speed compliance without sacrificing high-speed stability. It remains an engaging SUV to drive, but it’s now a far more comfortable family cruiser. It handles undulating roads with a level of maturity that was missing before, and the steering feels more connected, offering more confidence when pushing through corners.</p><p>

    Safety has been overhauled with a full suite of Level-2 ADAS comprising 21 autonomous functions. During our drive, the Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Avoidance felt well-calibrated for Indian road conditions - less intrusive but ready to intervene when needed. The inclusion of Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance and Blind-Spot Monitoring makes navigating dense urban traffic significantly less stressful.</p>







<h2>2026 Kia Seltos Verdict: Can It Reclaim the C-SUV Benchmark?</h2>

<p>While the current lineup is robust, there is a missing piece in the puzzle – electrification. For those looking to reduce their running costs, a hybrid version of the Seltos is confirmed for the Indian market. While Kia has not committed to a specific date, it is expected to launch in late 2026 or early 2027 as a direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrids. This move will be critical in a market where fuel prices and emission norms are becoming increasingly challenging.</p>

<p>In the meantime, the Seltos faces its toughest challenge yet. The newly launched Tata Sierra offers a more rugged, outdoor appeal, while the Hyundai Creta remains the volume king. However, Kia has played a masterstroke with the pricing. Starting at Rs 10.99 lakh and going up to Rs 19.99 lakh, it covers a massive price bracket.
