Honda Amaze Highlights
It was the first-generation Amaze that debuted Honda’s 1.5-litre diesel powertrain in the Indian market as it forayed into the tight-packed compact sedan space. As it turns out, Honda had yet another first planned for itself when it launched the second-generation Amaze, the car you see above. The second-generation Amaze brings with itself the first diesel-CVT powertrain setup from Honda.
The Amaze also holds the novelty of being the only compact sedan that’s built from the ground up and is not a hatchback with a slapped boot. On top of that, the Honda Amaze price is quite well justified too. So, is this the new compact sedan to beat? Here’s what it’s like.
Exterior
The Honda Amaze, as discussed above, is built from scratch, without taking inspiration from a small hatchback. The design of the Honda Amaze new model is quite striking and it does not borrow any styling cues from its predecessor. The chopped front and rear end along with the uninterestingly designed alloy wheels might draw an opinion.
Variants
The Honda Amaze variants are as follows: E, S, V, and VX. The top-spec VX variant gets some nice-to-have equipment such as a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple Carplay/Android Auto, reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, and push-button start with keyless entry.
On the exterior front, the car does not get any fancy LEDs for both the headlamp and taillamp, which is quite a bummer for a car that costs as much as the Honda Amaze on-road price.
Interior
The interiors of the Honda Amaze, too, are a step up from the previous-gen car. The overall cabin is finished in black and beige, which does lend a sense of airiness, although the lighter beige shade for the seats means it’ll require more upkeep.
The driver sits facing a nicely laid out instrument cluster with a MID, which is very informative. The three-spoke steering wheel has controls for the infotainment system as well as cruise control, although the addition of a leather wrap would have made things a bit more premium.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Amaze comes powered with a petrol and a diesel engine. First is the company’s 1.2-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine, which is good for 89bhp and 110Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. Next, there’s the company’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine, which produces 79bhp and 160Nm of torque. It, too, comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
