Honda Cars India is making a big move in the Indian market this summer. On 22 May 2026, the carmaker will host a major dual-launch event, unveiling the new Honda City facelift alongside the all-new ZR-V hybrid SUV. This strategic step is aimed at tackling a two-fold challenge: defending its position in the fiercely competitive midsize sedan segment while also making a serious entry into the premium SUV space with a sophisticated new flagship.

With one model refreshing a trusted bestseller and the other bringing an entirely new premium offering, Honda’s summer strategy looks serious.
Starting with the City, Honda’s long-running sedan is due for its second facelift in fifth-generation form. The changes on the outside are expected to be subtle, which means revised headlights, updated tail-lamps, fresh bumpers, and new alloy wheels rather than a full design overhaul. Honda seems keen to keep the City’s familiar design intact while giving it enough freshness.

Where the real improvements should come is inside the cabin. The City has recently started feeling behind rivals like the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia when it comes to features, and Honda seems ready to fix that. Expect additions like ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, a larger touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and possibly a 360-degree camera.
Honda is unlikely to alter the existing powertrain formula, which means the familiar petrol and hybrid options should continue unchanged. The current fifth-generation Honda City is offered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that produces around 119bhp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm of torque, paired with either a manual or CVT gearbox.

Honda also sells the stronger e:HEV hybrid version, which delivers a combined 124bhp and comes with a CVT gearbox. That should keep the City’s reputation for smooth drivability and fuel efficiency intact, while the expected cabin upgrades could make it feel more competitive against rivals that currently offer more tech and convenience features.
Then there is the ZR-V, a model that could open an entirely new chapter for Honda in India. Expected to arrive as a full import, the ZR-V will sit above the Elevate and take on premium SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. This will make it Honda’s most premium SUV offering in the country.

Its crossover-inspired styling, smoother shape, and more premium proportions give it a very different identity from Honda’s current SUV line-up. Unlike the upright and practical approach of the Elevate, the ZR-V looks designed to appeal to buyers who want a more sophisticated and urban-focused SUV with added road presence.

The global-spec ZR-V already packs plenty of premium appeal with a large touchscreen, ADAS, powered seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a powered tailgate. For India, Honda is expected to bring in the 178bhp 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain paired with an e-CVT, which should make it a strong option.
With the City facelift aiming to stay one of India’s most complete sedans and the ZR-V stepping in as Honda’s premium SUV flagship, 22 May could be a major moment for the Japanese brand. One launch strengthens a trusted name, while the other could finally give Honda the premium SUV it has been missing.
