Jeep Wrangler Highlights
While other carmakers seem to be in a rush to bring substantial changes to the styling and character of their products, Jeep has refused to make any significant changes to the Wrangler. In its fourth-generation now, the Jeep Wrangler stays true to the rugged and tough image that customers have come to associate it with. It still comes with a squared-off nose, round headlamps – now LED – the signature Jeep grille, an upright windscreen, and prominent wheel arches. What’s more, it continues to be a very capable off-roader and sport the iconic Wrangler shape.
While the overall silhouette of the new Wrangler remains identical to the outgoing model, Jeep has made some over-the-top cosmetic changes to keep it in line with trends. The Wrangler retains the boxy silhouette, but now it features some modern elements. At the front, the seven-slot Jeep signature grille – slightly tweaked – is flanked by a pair of full LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The rear windscreen is slightly larger, and the rear tyres are now positioned a bit lower for better visibility. The fourth-generation Jeep Wrangler is only available in its five-door version in India.
As far as Jeep Wrangler variants are concerned, it will be available only in the top-spec Unlimited trim in India. In terms of features, it boasts a 7.0-inch MID, an 8.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a tyre pressure monitoring system, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, ambient lighting, and more. In terms of safety, the Wrangler comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBS, electronic roll mitigation, traction control, ESC, and hill-start assist.
The cabin is marked by a vertical dashboard design to maximise the cabin space. The high-set seating position offers a commanding view of the road. Speaking of the seats, the front seats – finished in black leather – are extremely comfortable and well-contoured for ample support. The rear squab, too, is extremely comfortable, although the legroom here is a bit limited.
Engine Specifications & Performance
Under the hood, the Jeep is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of churning out 270hp and 400Nm of torque. Just like its predecessor, the fourth-generation Wrangler comes with four-wheel drive. The gasoline engine is mated to an 8-speed torque converter gearbox.
While the Jeep Wrangler’s ARAI-certified fuel economy has not been revealed, we expect the new Wrangler to deliver around 8 – 12km/l, depending on driving styles and road conditions.
