<p>Mercedes-Benz India will increase prices across its full model line-up from 1 April 2026. The company says the hike will be up to 2 per cent, depending on the model and variant. So, if you have been planning to buy a new Mercedes-Benz, this is worth noting because current prices will stay valid only till 31 March 2026 for bookings and deliveries completed within that period. The brand says the price revision is due to rising input costs and changing operational expenses. Mercedes-Benz has been absorbing some of that pressure, but it has now decided to pass on a part of the increase to customers. <p>Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the VLE electric van for the global market. The model is the first to spawn&nbsp;the brand’s newly developed modular, flexible, and scalable Van Architecture. Mercedes calls states that it offers a limousine-level driving experience and MPV-style practicality.&nbsp;The new all-electric VLE van can seat up to 8 people. It unlocks up to 4,078 litres of cargo space when the second and third rows are removed. Mercedes-Benz’s all-electric e-Van claims to offer a WLTP range of more than 700 kilometres. It also comes with&nbsp;a range of packages and options to suit user preferences. For instance, buyers can choose from four trim lines (standard, AMG Line,&nbsp;AMG Line Plus, and Exclusive) along with four equipment packages (Advanced, Advanced Plus, Premium, and Premium Plus). Other&nbsp;optional add-ons include Night Package, various trim inserts, and multiple alloy wheel designs ranging&nbsp;from 19 to 22 inches.</p><p>While Mercedes has not made any official announcements,  the VLE is anticipated to make it to our shores sometime in 2027 following its global debut. On the other hand, the more performance-focused VLE 400 4MATIC electric will churn out a maximum power of over 403bhp. Note that the latter has been introduced based on customer feedback. Bookings are now open for both models&nbsp;for a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh, and customers who pre-book them will receive a complimentary wall-box charger. The model also focuses on efficiency, thanks to its aerodynamically&nbsp;optimised design and a drivetrain efficiency of around 93 percent, resulting in an energy consumption&nbsp;figure of approximately 12 kWh per 100 km.&nbsp;In addition, the variant features a two-speed transmission and supports DC fast charging of up to 240 kW,&nbsp;which can add roughly 400 km of range in just 20 minutes under ideal conditions. </p><p>The new CLA 200 model also benefits from an 800-volt electrical architecture, but it offers a claimed range of 542 kilometres. Using a 240 kW DC fast charger, the CLA 200 Standard Range&nbsp;can gain approximately 320 km of range in 20 mins.</p><h2><strong>Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric: Tentative Prices and Launch Timeline</strong></h2><p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz </a>has indicated that the CLA 200 ‘Standard Range’ could carry a tentative ex-showroom price of around Rs 55 lakh, while the CLA 250+ ‘Long Range’ is expected&nbsp;to be priced at approximately Rs 59 lakh. The automaker highlighted that the&nbsp;final pricing may vary depending on foreign exchange rates at the time&nbsp;of the official launch, which is scheduled for mid-April 2026.</p><p>Deliveries for the two variants will take place in phases.  The CLA 250+ Long Range is expected to begin reaching customers&nbsp;from the end of April 2026, while the CLA 200 Standard Range will follow from June 2026.</p>

The new model marks a big shift for the AMG GT 4-Door nameplate as it moves away from internal combustion engines and adopts a dedicated electric vehicle platform. Even with the move to electric power, the interior clearly keeps the driver at the centre of the experience. A 14-inch central touchscreen sits at the centre of the console and is slightly angled towards the driver for easier access. It is paired with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and an optional 14-inch passenger display. Two circular controllers with small LCD displays sit below the spokes and allow quick changes to drive modes and chassis settings. Paddle shifters remain behind the wheel but now serve new roles in the electric setup. Although it is the MPV’s second innings in our market,&nbsp;after being discontinued in 2022 as the W447 V-Class, the new iteration feels completely fresh, with a more mature, upscale design. It is offered internationally in Standard,&nbsp;Long, and Extra Long wheelbase configurations. </p><p>In India, however, the MPV is available only in the range-topping Extra Long Wheelbase version. It comes exclusively in a single, fully loaded AMG Line trim,&nbsp;with an extensive list of premium equipment and styling upgrades. Mercedes-Benz has announced that it&nbsp;will manufacture the MPV locally at its plant in Chakan,&nbsp;Pune.</p><p>Here’s a closer look at the Mercedes’s luxury MPV.</p><h2><strong>Mercedes-Benz V-Class: Exterior </strong></h2><p>The all-new V-Class comes with the AMG Line package as standard, which gives it a sportier and more aggressive look. The six-seat layout swaps this for individual captain chairs.     <p>Features-wise, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class gets adaptive air suspension, dual 12.3-inch digital screens, wireless connectivity and a 15-speaker Burmester audio system, three-zone climate control, powered and climate-controlled front seats,&nbsp;and 64-colour ambient lighting, and extensive rear-seat amenities, including sunblinds and USB ports, among others.</p><p>For safety, the MPV comes with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a full suite of ADAS functions, including&nbsp;Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and&nbsp;Active Distance Assist Distronic.</p><h2><strong>Mercedes-Benz V-Class: Engine</strong></h2><p>The India-spec V-Class is offered with two 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine options under the new V300 nomenclature. For the first time, the V-Class is available&nbsp;in a petrol avatar combined with the Airmatic air suspension system.</p><p>The V300 diesel variant develops 233bhp, while the V300 petrol produces 228bhp,&nbsp;supplemented by an additional 20bhp from the mild-hybrid system. A 9-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox is standard. </p>

Mercedes-Benz has launched the V-Class in India, with introductory prices starting at Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom). Bookings for the premium MPV are now open, while deliveries are slated to commence by the end of this month.

Globally, the electrified CLA is available in two variants; however, in India, only the 85kWh&nbsp; 250+ version will be offered. </p><p>For the first time, the CLA embraces a fully electric powertrain, replacing the ICE engines&nbsp;that powered earlier generations that were discontinued in 2020. It measures 4,723mm in length, 1,855mm in width, 1,468mm in height, and has a 2,790mm wheelbase. Logistically, it was a sound decision because covertly transporting large numbers of these cars from Germany to France by road would have been difficult. Hence, an entire train. And I believe most of them are still performing duties somewhere in the world, long past their ‘sell-by’ date. Whether it is Germany or Morocco, Azerbaijan or Iran, the UK or the USA, it is not uncommon to spot a W123 even today.</p><p>

I have seen them in action across a staggering range of countries, continuing to soldier on, carrying people and goods as if it is the most natural thing to do – FOUR DECADES after production ended. For others, though, it is the quintessential modern classic – the car you buy if you want a cool old-timer that you can use as a daily driver, even in today’s rubbish traffic and driving conditions. Speak to owners in India today, and they will swear by its ability to quietly worm its way into your life, slowly becoming the daily runner of choice instead of a contemporary car. Driving the W123 around is a distinctly special experience, even more so than its successor, the hewn-from-granite W124. I recall the driving position being superbly comfortable.</p><p>

    </p><p>Sitting upright with excellent visibility, with all controls falling beautifully to hand, facing a large steering wheel and the three-pointed star leading you, you feel as though you could keep driving it for the next 50 years. I wonder what was written in the memo to the engineers? Did it specifically mention the words ‘solid’ and ‘indestructible’? Perhaps not, but it certainly mandated ease of maintenance and service, and an uncompromising focus on durability and quality.</p><p>

    </p><p>Although the E-Class nameplate was introduced in 1993, the W123 is widely regarded as its predecessor because it was an upper mid-range model. During its wildly successful run, the W123 came to define what the Mercedes-Benz brand stood for, a reputation that survives even today – high-quality German engineering, dignified styling, and never-say-die durability. This was one of the models that helped build the brand across its illustrious 140-year history, and I dare say it raised industry standards by several notches.</p><p>

    </p><p>It came in a wide range of body styles, starting with the elegant Coupe (C123), which sat 40mm lower on a wheelbase shortened by 85mm. About 100,000 of these coupes were made. This was followed by the estate, the T Modell (S123, with ‘T’ standing for Tourismus und Transport), the first one made entirely in-house. Looking at American station wagons and the estates from Sweden, Daimler-Benz saw real potential for a W123-based estate, though it was a difficult decision to take given the estate’s utilitarian image and Mercedes-Benz’s luxury appeal. Time proved them right, as the T Modells were immensely successful, with nearly 200,000 units sold over eight years.</p><p>

    </p><p>The estate had a self-levelling rear suspension, with an automatic hydropneumatic level-control system as standard, to accommodate extra rear weight and support caravan towing. This period also marked the popularity of diesel engines in Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, driven by the 1970s oil crisis, when diesel was cheap and unrestricted. The outcome of this was the legendary long-legged diesel cruisers from Mercedes-Benz, which are still renowned today.</p><p>

It also came with a long-wheelbase version (called V123) that was 63 centimetres longer, allowing it to accommodate a third row of seats – popular in the hospitality, transport, and limousine businesses. And finally, there was the F123 series – partially-built chassis on which ambulances, hearses and special vehicles were built. Think about it: a luxury saloon versatile enough to be offered in all these forms, and the benchmark in each of these categories, even though the saloon body style accounted for 2.37 million of the 2.7 million W123s produced.</p><p>

    </p><p>Mercedes-Benz also ensured that safety features filtered down from the S-Class and SL models above it. The passenger cell featured a reinforced roof frame, high-strength pillars and doors, while the front and rear had controlled deformability. An innovation was the steering column, designed to deflect away from drivers in an impact, rather than being thrust towards them. From 1980 onwards, the W123 received ABS, followed soon after by a driver-side airbag.</p><p>

    </p><p>Even with a set of enthusiastically powered engines, the W123 was not meant for sporty driving. However, that did not stop Mercedes-Benz from subjecting it to one of the most gruelling endurance tests ever – the 1977 London–Sydney Rally. Covering over 28,200 kilometres across Europe, Asia (including up-and-down India) and Australia, two W123s finished first and second, with two more in the top ten. The cars were essentially stock, barring a few modifications; even power steering and air-conditioning were retained. If there was ever a true test of endurance, this was it. Oh, it also helped that Mercedes-Benz conducted a FULL recce beforehand. Take those cars out of the Stuttgart Museum, feed the 280E some dinosaur juice, and I am fairly certain it would be ready to do it all over again. Respect.</p><p>

This year, we celebrate the historic 50th anniversary of a legend: the age-defying W123, the best-selling Mercedes-Benz of all time. A tribute.

<p><em><strong>Mercedes-Benz is relying on two things for the success of its latest entry-level product, the A-Class Limousine – an already existing vast customer base and the aspirations of the youth. We find out if the most affordable Mercedes product in India justifies its three-pointed badge.</strong></em></p>

<p>The lure of owning a product with the three-pointed star is a strong one, and not just in India. For decades, the dream of owning a <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> product has been an aspiration shared by people of all ages around the world. And despite the fact that Mercedes’ customer base has grown by leaps and bounds ever since it made entry into the Indian market, there are always those who aspire to own their first Mercedes. And it’s the combination of these two factors – the aspiration of people, especially the youth, and the existing customer base – that Mercedes is counting on for the success of the A-Class Limousine.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Tried and tested</strong></p>

<p>The method behind the sales strategy of the A-Class Limousine is not a new one. It’s been a tried and tested way of not only increasing a brand’s appeal across customer segments but also expanding the base to bring in a new set of customers. Wonder what it is? Well, it’s simple. Launch a product at a price point that’s just above mass-market products, tempting mass-market customers into upgrading their vehicle to finally achieve their dream of owning a Mercedes product. Such a product is also a perfect addition to the garage of an existing Mercedes customer looking to buy a car for his/her children or spouse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Now, all this sounds good, however, many a time, in the name of entry-level luxury, what customers get is a car without enough features and the luxury experience that customers expect from a blue-chip brand. The big question then is – does the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/a-class-limousine/">A-Class Limousine</a> offer an experience worthy of a Mercedes?</p>

<p><strong>Family cues&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>One look at the A-Class Limousine and you know that it’s a Mercedes. Right from the grille, with an oversized three-pointed star, to the sloping roofline and dual-character lines, which run along the sides of the car, the A-Class has the familiar Mercedes design cues. Interestingly, according to the brand, with an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.22, the A-Class is the most aerodynamically efficient production car in the world, which helps in terms of efficiency and refinement. Some of the adjustments made to achieve such a low Cd figure are quite evident, such as the 17-inch wheels, with special spokes designed to deal with the way air moves around them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Stylistically, the A-Class is a respectable looking product. With its angular headlights and strikingly designed taillights, it cuts a fine figure, but it doesn’t offer any spectacular update to the brand’s design language. One trick that the A-Class seems to have missed, considering that it is targeted at a younger audience, is the lack of bright colours. I think that offering striking colour options would’ve made the A-Class stand out better.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>A refreshing change&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>When it comes to the interior, though, the A-Class Limousine seems to have taken a massive leap forward in comparison to the earlier generation of entry-level products from the brand. The moment you step inside, you become aware that special attention has been paid not only to the design but also to the materials used inside the car. Right from the wooden elements to the dual-layered dash, it’s a striking looking cabin. I particularly love the turbine-style air vents, which look absolutely fantastic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Of course, the A-Class also features a couple of striking looking screens – both 10.25-inch in size – which feature the latest generation of Mercedes’ UX. A fairly large sunroof adds to the airiness of the cabin, and the presence of seven airbags tells you that your safety has not been disregarded.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Now, the question of space always lingers in mind while considering a small sedan. And here, the A-Class has its hits and misses. The front seats of the A-Class feel quite plush and spacious, and most adults will be quite comfortable in them. The rear seats are also enough spacious for adults up to six feet tall. However, with a prominent transmission tunnel running through the rear seat floor, the legroom for the middle passenger is non-existent, which means that the rear seat is best suited for only two adults.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Also, the rear seat base is simply flat, which means that it’s lacking in under-thigh support – I think making it a bit more angular would do the trick. Despite those two shortcomings, I would say that with its fit-and-finish and lovely design, the A-Class Limousine’s interior is certainly a great place to spend time in.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Power options</strong></p>

<p>In terms of engine options, Mercedes seems to have all the bases covered. Right from start, the A-Class will be offered with three engines – a 1.3-litre petrol, a 2.0-litre diesel, and a 35 AMG variant. We tested the 200d variant, powered by the 2.0-litre diesel engine, which produces 148bhp with 320Nm of torque and is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. The remarkable thing about the engine is that the peak torque is produced from just 1,400rpm, which means that the throttle response from the engine is quite instantaneous – it reaches the 0 – 100km/h mark in just over 8 seconds. And even as you pick up speed, things remain the same – the engine offers respectable amounts of power throughout the rev range.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The A-Class also offers pretty good ride quality. But at low speeds, especially on broken roads, the ride could be a bit softer. High-speed stability is, of course, not a problem at all &nbsp;– in fact, it feels quite assuring to drive at high speeds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But all is not perfect with the engine and gearbox. For one, I think that the A-Class can do with a bit more insulation of the cabin, for the engine noise is too loud inside. Second, the 8-speed DCT leaves a lot to be desired. It tends to hold on to gears for far too long at low speeds, which in turn revs the engine higher, which means too much engine noise in the cabin. The gearbox could certainly use some updates to improve the refinement and the engine response of the A-Class. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Upping the game</strong></p>

<p>However, one of the biggest game-changing aspects of the A-Class is its industry-best 8-year warranty on the engine and gearbox – something unheard of in the Indian market. Naturally, for first-time luxury car buyers, maintenance cost is a big factor, and this warranty should certainly take care of some of their worries. And, interestingly, it is also valid for the second owner of the car, which is sure to drive up the resale value of the A-Class when it’ll enter the used-car market.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Now, Mercedes is hinting at very competitive pricing for the A-Class (officials have said that the A will be priced around the ₹42 lakh mark). Pair it with the standard equipment on offer – 7 airbags, LED lights, a luxurious interior, etc – and the A-Class looks like a very tempting package. In fact, with its combination of quality, features, and potentially class-leading price, the A-Class has all the signs of being a benchmark product, which could be yet another best-seller for the brand in India. &nbsp;</p>
