    <h2>Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet: Here's What You Can Expect</h2><p>The prototype images suggest that the upcoming model stays true to the G-Class’s iconic, boxy silhouette. Signature elements such&nbsp;as the slab-sided doors with protective bars, the flat bonnet, upright proportions,&nbsp;and pronounced wheel arches all appear to be intact. Like the earlier G-Class Cabriolet,&nbsp;the new version will also use a folding soft-top roof.&nbsp;That said, it will set itself apart from its predecessor with a more practical&nbsp;four-door layout instead of the former two-door design.</p><p>Mercedes-Benz hasn’t revealed any details about the powertrain yet, though the presence of a rear differential strongly hints at a combustion-powered variant.     It’s rare for a car to win the coveted ‘Best of’ award by being understated, yet the Mercedes-Benz E450 does exactly that – an absolute masterclass in sleeper performance. At first glance, it seems like a standard E-Class – elegant and comfortable – and as our first drive review noted, its AMG Line cues are so subtle that if you blink, you might miss them. The 18-inch AMG wheels look small and uninspiring. This car doesn’t shout; it whispers. There are no aggressive wings or carbon-fibre splitters. And then you see it in action on the track – it clocked a lap time of 1:10.1 at the BIC. That’s not just fast – that’s staggering. This lap time is a testament to its chassis engineering, considering this is a long-wheelbase luxury sedan, not a lightweight sports car. <p>The secret lies in the ‘450’ badge. Beneath the unassuming exterior sits a formidable 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged engine. Paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, it produces 381bhp and 500Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 – 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. It’s a big, heavy car, but the way it masks all that mass when you floor the throttle is mesmerising. Power delivery is smooth and assured, climbing beautifully up the rev range. While it does feel slightly more front-heavy than the four-cylinder E200, the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system manages the power with such competence that it remains balanced. It’s not only quick in a straight line but also tackles corners with unexpected poise, only showing its limits if you attempt an aggressive, high-speed direction change.</p>

<p>But performance alone didn’t seal the E450’s victory. It’s a ‘Best of 2025’ winner because it’s a complete package, one that refuses to compromise. It offers AMG-level excitement for the driver—fronted by the full MBUX Hyperscreen and a 4D Burmester sound system—while spoiling rear passengers with indulgent comfort. This is, after all, a long-wheelbase cabin with reclining seats, electronic sunblinds, and S-Class-like legroom. The hydro-pneumatic Airmatic suspension is the heart of its dual nature. This system is the true enabler, providing a cushioning effect over potholes that no rival can match, while simultaneously preventing the body roll that would otherwise plague a car of this size on a fast lap. Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB Wins Car of the Year - autoX Awards 2025

The Mercedes-Benz E450 effortlessly fuses supreme luxury with jaw-dropping performance. It’s this breathtaking duality that left the jury unanimous in its praise.

As longtime readers of the magazine will know, I’ve been an unabashed G-Wagon fan for decades. The G is one of those perplexing machines that don’t really make any sense, but at the same time, they are the best choices you can make. Why, after all, would anyone need a twin-turbo V8 engine in a car that was designed to go off-road and has three differential locks to make sure that it can tackle any terrain? Or why would anyone need side-exit exhausts that make an absolutely beautiful racket when you rev the car?</p><p>And yet, that’s exactly what makes the G so special. The mechanical feel, the sheer solidity of its construction – well, it’s all intoxicating, really. Take the doors, for instance. As our instructor at the G Experience centre joked, ‘You can’t slam a G-Wagon’s door too hard – you simply need to use your strength to close it.’ When it shuts, with a solid sound of the central locking, it feels like you’ve sealed a vault full of precious jewels.</p>

      
    
      
    


<h2>A Glimpse into History</h2>

<p>Before participating in the G-Class experience, we toured the assembly line that’s been manufacturing every single G-Wagon since 1979. In fact, the G is exclusively built by Magna for Mercedes at the Graz plant – the only facility in the world to do so from day one.</p><p>

    </p><p>And we witnessed the whole plant and the processes through which a G-Wagon is built. Watching all of it in motion was fascinating.  From various exterior colours to different interior trims, each G-Wagon feels like it’s made to a personal brief rather than a production quota. The pride that Graz takes in being home to the production of the G-Wagon is palpable – locals even boast about custom-built versions, like the ‘Popemobile’ based on the G580 electric, which was created for Pope Francis.</p>

      
    
      
    


<h2>Proof is in the Pudding</h2>

<p>But the real magic began at the G-Class Experience Centre, tucked away in a corner of Graz Airport. It’s here that the G’s mettle can be tested across an array of brutal challenges. Before we hit the course, though, we were greeted by an extraordinary sight – the original 1979 G-Wagon encased in the world’s largest single piece of amber. Created for the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, it weighs a mind-boggling 44 tonnes – a fitting tribute to a machine that has become a legend in its own right.</p><p>

    </p><p>After a quick briefing, it was time to get serious and drive the G through challenging conditions and see how it fares. Behind the wheel of the G 500 and G 450d, we tackled the articulation course first. With the centre differential locked, the G simply drove through obstacles with ease. Next came the side-incline test. We tilted the G up to a dizzying 36 degrees, the maximum Mercedes claims it can handle under standard test conditions. And yes, it felt every bit as dramatic as it sounds.</p>

      
    
      
    


<h2>Flooded Roads?</h2>

<p>The next driving challenge was perhaps the most relatable one for Indian conditions – deep-water wading. It effectively mimicked the monsoon chaos that we witness every year in cities like Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai. We drove through 700mm of standing water, which effectively demonstrated how the G-Wagon might just be the perfect car for anyone living on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road. Despite the water level, all we had to do was slot the G in gear – it simply glided through the water as if it were a puddle.</p><p>

    </p><p>After the off-roading and water wading, things got a bit more interesting and challenging. We switched to the G580 EV and attempted some serious climbs and drops that were designed to showcase the its off-road capabilities. We began with a climb on an 80% incline, which the G handled effortlessly, except for some traction and slippage issues caused by the rubber deposits left by other cars. I took another run at it, and this time, I managed to get it to climb the incline without any issue. Immediately after came a 70% descent – nearly vertical – and though it looked terrifying, the G’s hill descent system handled it immaculately.</p><p>

    From there, we switched to the G63 AMG and experienced its dynamic capabilities on a stretch of the airport’s tarmac. We tested its acceleration, braking, and even performed the Elk Test manoeuvre. It was a thrilling experience to push such a large, heavy machine to its limits and see how it behaves. Add to all this the V8’s amazing exhaust note, and it was pure mechanical theatre.</p>

      
    
      
    


      
    
      
    


<h2>Reality Check</h2>

<p>While we couldn’t tackle the legendary Schöckl Mountain course this time, it was still an amazing experience. In fact, the G-Class Experience Centre has plenty to offer for both customers and enthusiasts. From the off-road course to the G-Class EV experience and the dynamic section with the G63 AMG, there was no shortage of adrenaline. But just when we thought the day was done, the team at the G Experience Centre had a surprise in store – a ride with one of their instructors across the entire course.</p><p>

<p>Now, since all the instructors have a racing background, we should’ve known what was coming. Still, nothing could have prepared us for what followed. Our instructor took the same course we’d spent all day carefully crawling through – water wading, inclines, descents, and the dynamic section – and drove it like a full-blown rally car. He blasted through water wading sections at nearly 100km/h, flew up and down inclines we had tiptoed over at 6km/h, and even drifted the G-Wagon through the tarmac section while taking U-turns, casually chatting the entire time. He did it all and in style!</p><p>

<p>After spending the day feeling rather proud of my on- and off-road driving skills, that ride was a brutal, and hilarious, reality check. Still, getting to drive one my favourite cars, experience its full range of abilities, and live the G-Wagon life – even for a day – was an experience that I will never forget. And given the chance, I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

As a lifelong G-Wagon fan, visiting its birthplace in Graz, Austria, to see how it’s manufactured and to experience its capabilities was an opportunity of a lifetime.

This marks a 36 per cent growth over the same period last year. A significant part of this performance came during the Navratri festival, when the brand sold around 2,500 units in just nine days, its best-ever result for the period. <p>A 1985 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 once owned by Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna will go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s London auction in November. The car holds significant historical value for motorsport followers, marking an important moment in the Brazilian driver’s early career. Senna took delivery of the sedan in October 1985, shortly after impressing at the 1984 Nürburgring Race of Champions, where he drove a similar 190 E to victory against established world champions. His example was finished in Smoke Silver Metallic with a black leather interior, remaining in factory specification to this day.</p>

Senna used the vehicle regularly as his daily driver, covering around 41,000km over nearly two years before parting with it in 1987. That same year he signed with McLaren, moved to Monaco, and began the next stage of his Formula 1 journey.</p>
<h2>1985 Mercedes-Benz 190 E: Technical Details</h2>
<p>The 190 E 2.3-16 represented a high-performance version of the Mercedes W201. It carried a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine tuned for greater output, supported by a limited-slip differential and suspension upgrades aimed at sharper handling. Competing directly with the BMW M3, the car was well regarded among enthusiasts of the era. The example offered at auction retains its original specification and comes with service documentation from the period of Senna’s ownership.

<p>After Senna sold it, the car was exported to Australia, where its air-conditioning system was disconnected to meet import rules. Unlike many collectors’ cars, it continued to be used on the road, with the odometer now showing more than 154,000 miles (2,47,838km).</p>

<p>Mercedes-Benz has taken a big step into the midsize electric SUV market with the unveiling of the all-new Mercedes GLC EV. Built on the dedicated MB.EA platform, this model is designed from the ground up as a pure EV. It replaces the EQE SUV and goes up against key rivals like the BMW iX3, showing Mercedes’ clear focus on expanding its electric range. The exterior of the Mercedes GLC EV brings in a new design identity. The front grille comes with 942 illuminated dots surrounding the iconic Mercedes star, matched by star-shaped running lights and a detailed LED taillight bar.</p><p>The SUV also gets a sloping roofline, roof spoiler, and a low drag coefficient of 0.26, while rolling on 20-inch wheels as standard.</p><h2>New Mercedes-Benz GLC EV: Interior</h2><p>Inside, the cabin is dominated by the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest display ever fitted to a Mercedes. It has&nbsp;transferred the complete benefit of GST&nbsp;2.0 to its customers, offering price&nbsp;reductions between Rs 2.60 lakh and Rs 11 lakh, depending on the model.&nbsp;The price revision&nbsp;covers models ranging from&nbsp;high-performance AMG models to entry-level A-Class Limousine. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series have been long-time rivals, but in their latest long-wheelbase avatars, the debate gets even more interesting.

<p><em><strong>With the fifth-generation C-Class, Mercedes hopes to deliver a knockout punch to its competitors in a fiercely competitive segment. We drive it to see if it can deliver on the promise of being a ‘smaller’ S-Class.</strong></em></p>

<p>One of the problems of having a successful elder sibling is that you are always expected to follow in their footsteps, which can be a difficult task, for you are always under immense pressure to be at least as successful, if not more. So, when <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> calls the C-Class a ‘smaller’ S-Class, they have my attention. You see, with the new S-Class, Mercedes has set a new benchmark not just for itself but also for its rivals by offering a blend of style, luxury, technology, and driving appeal that’s hard to match. Naturally, this means there’s a lot of pressure on the C-Class.</p>

<p>Of course, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/c-class/" target="_blank">C-Class</a> has been no slouch itself. It is one of Mercedes’ most successful products worldwide, and at the last count, the German manufacturer had sold over 10.5 million units of the car across its various generations. In India too, the C-Class has been a success, as the previous generation model is doing rather well. One of the things that helped the C-Class – until the arrival of the A-Class sedan, at least – was that it was the entry point into the world of the three-pointed star and, therefore, a big draw for many customers and first-time buyers.</p>

<p><strong>Photocopy</strong></p>

<p>Now, the new C-Class does look like a photocopy of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/s-class/" target="_blank">S-Class</a> reduced to 75% of its original size. But that’s no bad thing, considering how good the S looks. As a result, you get a good-looking sedan with excellent proportions. From the unique front grille with vertical slats (on the Avantgarde trim) to the 17-inch wheels, every aspect of the car looks very balanced. Special emphasis has been given to the car’s aerodynamics, as it now has a drag coefficient of just 0.24, which means it’s rather slippery. An interesting design touch is the slightly rising boot lid, which almost gives an impression of being a spoiler, but it’s there mainly for aerodynamic reasons. In fact, it looks rather similar to that of the S, and if viewed from afar, most people will be hard-pressed to distinguish it from the S.</p>

<p><strong>Moving the Game Forward</strong></p>

<p>If you think that the exterior is inspired by the S, wait till you lay your eyes on the interior. Gone is the horizontal central screen, and in comes an 11.9-inch iPad-style display, just like the one in the S-Class. The display has terrific resolution and brightness and is a pleasure to use – unless you’re driving, in which case you have to take your eyes off the road even for using small controls – and certainly gives the cabin a completely new appeal. There are other noteworthy design touches, such as the large digital instrument cluster and door handles, which look like they’re floating in the air. The dash on our test car featured ash wood, with an aluminium inlay, and looked absolutely fantastic. In fact, it would be fair to say that the interior of the C-Class sets a new benchmark in the segment.</p>

<p>Now, while the interior is spacious, fitting five adults will prove to be a tight squeeze, as the tall transmission tunnel in the rear somewhat limits the footwell space.</p>

<p><strong>Choices, choices…</strong></p>

<p>At launch, the C-Class will be offered in three trim variants – the C 200 petrol, C 220d diesel, and C 300d. While the first two will be available only in the Avantgarde trim, the range-topping C 300d will be offered in the AMG trim, with larger wheels, slightly different interior and exterior design, and a lot more oomph. We drove the C 200, which is an interesting variant, as the engine here is not a 2.0-litre, as the nomenclature of the car indicates, but a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. The engine is turbocharged, and there is also a 48V hybrid system integrated between the engine and the gearbox.</p>

<p>In itself, the engine produces 201bhp and 300Nm of torque, but with the hybrid ISG engaged, the power and torque get a boost of 20bhp and 200Nm, respectively, for short durations. This means that instant acceleration for overtaking or getting into a gap is always available. Paired to the engine is Mercedes’ 9-speed transmission, but here it misses a trick. Despite the availability of extra torque and power, the transmission’s tuning leaves much to be desired. Particularly at small throttle inputs and slow speeds, the transmission seems as if it’s hunting for the right gear and is not as sure as, say, a BMW 8-speed gearbox. I think it’s something that can be improved.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the other hand, the ride comfort of the new C is simply brilliant. Despite its 17-inch wheels, which are not small by Indian standards, it deals with bad roads and potholes terrifically. Pair this with the comfortable seats and the excellent interior, and the C indeed seems like a lovely place to spend time in.</p>

<p>The new C-Class is also very competent in terms of enthusiastic driving. The suspension is well set up, and the steering has a decent feel to it. But, it’s not really a driver’s car – it’s more about wafting and cruising rather than trying to set a new lap time.</p>

<p>While we didn’t know the price of the C-Class at the time of the drive, we now know that the fifth-generation car will cost between ₹55 – 61 lakh (ex-showroom), which will also set the tone for the segment. Sure, it may not be the value proposition that the earlier-gen car was, but with its S-like styling, technology, space, and level of comfort, it really does offer a compelling package to customers – one that feels truly luxurious.</p>
