<p>The new Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, Mercedes-Benz's first drop-top Maybach, is here. Based on the Mercedes SL Roadster, the SL 680 features subtle changes over the base model to give it a more sumptuous appearance. It is the sportiest model in Maybach's history and has a combined energy consumption of 13.7l/100km and CO2 emissions of 312g/km. The cabin is upholstered in crystal white nappa leather, with a silver satin finish on the dashboard and door pads. The features and equipment are carried over from the SL Roadster. The car comes equipped with a noise-reducing exhaust system, a comprehensive insulation and absorption package, a comfort-oriented suspension setup, and soft engine mounts. <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes</a> says the suspension setup has been altered with a stronger emphasis on comfort. <h2>Mercedes Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series: Styling Cues</h2>

<p>Let's start with the styling. The Maybach maintains the SL's dimensions, but up front, is a new, illuminated, chrome-heavy Maybach grille. Mercedes-Maybach logos&nbsp;are extensively&nbsp;used on the air vents on the front bumper. There is a Mercedes hood ornament on the bonnet now, and the windshield has chrome trim around the sides as well as a chrome centre stripe running across its length. Prospective customers may also choose to have Maybach logos engraved onto the base layer of paint, covering the bonnet. A closer look additionally reveals rose gold accents within the headlights.</p>

A brand-exclusive rear skirt with additional chrome trim and a new diffuser design is located around the back. An "aerodynamically designed" double scoop has allowed for the removal of the back bench. Customers can pick between two design concepts: Red Ambience or White Ambience. The former features a red body with a black contrast bonnet, and the latter has the body, finished mostly in white. Other paint jobs are available upon request.</p>

<p>On the mechanical front, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, powering the Maybach SL 680, produces 800Nm of peak torque and 577bhp of maximum power without any assistance from a hybrid setup. Power is distributed to all four wheels using Mercedes' 4Matic+ all-wheel drive technology, coupled with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. According to the luxury carmaker, high traction is provided even on slick roads by the fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. A safe and manoeuvrable driving experience is provided by the rear-axle steering that comes as standard. It blends stability and agility. The model takes 4.1 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100km/h and has a top speed of 260km/h.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/maybach-s-class/">Mercedes-Maybach S-Class</a> has been launched in India, with the locally produced S580 variant priced at Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom). The more unique S680 variant will be imported into the country at a starting price of Rs 3.20 crore (ex-showroom). The S680’s price is the base price for the variant and will increase based on added customisations.</p>

<p>The biggest difference between the two variants is the engine. The S580 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which makes 496bhp and 700Nm. The S680 is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which makes 604bhp and 900Nm. The transmission is a nine-speed torque converter in both cases, and the Mercedes 4MATIC (AWD) system is standard as well. All of this means that the S580 can do the 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds, while the S680 can do the same in just 4.5 seconds. The top speed of both variants is limited to 250km/h.</p>

<p>Given that it's an S-Class&nbsp;and a Maybach, this latest sedan by <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> is packed to the brim with features. The highlights of the package include an advanced ADAS system, with evasive steering assist, four driving modes including a ‘Maybach’ mode, 13 airbags (the most in any car sold in India), electrically operated rear doors, active road noise cancellation, and the use of premium materials all throughout the cabin. In fact, to make more space, the wheelbase of the Mercedes-Maybach is 180mm longer than the regular S-Class.</p>

Mercedes-Benz has launched the Maybach version of its most opulent sedan, the S-Class, in India. It’s available in two variants: the S580 and the S680. The former is being locally produced in India whereas the latter is being imported and is sold out till 2023.

<p>Mercedes-Benz India is ready to kick off 2022 with a bang! Just last month, the German marque announced its <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/mercedes-benz-will-launch-10-new-cars-in-2022-including-the-eqs-110573/">plan to launch up to 10 new products in India this year</a>, and today, the brand has confirmed that the first launch of the lot will be none other than the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/2021-mercedes-maybach-s-class-oozes-luxury-and-tech-108696/">latest Maybach S-Class!</a></p>

<p>Like the outgoing generation, expect the new generation to arrive in both forms, the V8-powered S 580 (a replacement for the S 560) and the V12-powered S 680 (a replacement for the S 650). While the Biturbo V8 (with the EQ Boost mild-hybrid system) churns out 496bhp and 700Nm of torque, the big daddy S 680 is&nbsp;good for a whopping 612bhp and 1,000Nm of torque (the US-spec model), thanks to its mammoth 6.0-litre Biturbo V12.</p>

<p>And here's some more exciting news. The S 580 is expected to go on sale as a locally-assembled CKD model. Therefore, expect the starting price of the range to be relatively lower than before. The S 680, however, will only be available as a fully-built CBU.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Figures aside, why should anyone be excited about it? Well, as we've seen in the case of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/videos/mercedes-gls-600-maybach-we-drive-the-ridiculously-luxurious-maybach-suv-first-drive-autox-110704/">GLS 600 Maybach</a>, which was launched last year, a Maybach model dials everything on a standard Mercedes up to 11. And the aspect that highlights this fact the most on the Maybach S-Class is its wheelbase. At 3,396mm, the wheelbase is 180mm longer than the Long-Wheelbase (LWB) S-Class. And all of it benefits rear-seat occupants.</p>

<p>So, it'll be interesting to see just how many crores one will have to shell out to get into the buyers' queue for the Maybach S-Class. As per our estimate, even with the local-assembly operations, prices are expected to start north of rupees two crores.</p>
