Tata has really upped the ante with the last few products they have launched in the Indian market – Tiago, Hexa, Tigor and more recently the Nexon. Thanks to such aggressive efforts, the perception of Tata offerings being poorly built is gradually changing. The company recently unveiled a premium hatchback concept, the 45X, at the Auto Expo 2018. With this concept and later the production-spec model, they aim to further establish their focus on quality products.

The 45X will be based on Tata’s AMP – Advanced Modular Platform – and will sport the company’s new Impact 2.0 design philosophy. This new design philosophy promises new Tata offerings to be sharper and contemporary than ever before. If the concept is anything to go by, the grille will retain the ‘Humanity line’ and will be noticeably sleeker in the 45X. The headlights and taillights have been given a similar treatment too. Adding a sense of aggression to the overall design is the chiselled front bumper and a prominent line running along the profile into the taillight. At the Auto Expo 2018, the car was encased in a glass box, so we couldn’t take a closer look at the interior. If the new generation of Tata cars are anything to go by, expect the 45X’s interior to be spacious and clean.

Tata hasn’t revealed any details about the engine and specifications as yet, but it is safe to assume that the 45X will come fitted with the Revotron and Revotorq motors from the Nexon. Gearbox options will remain the same.

By bringing in a premium hatchback, Tata wants to take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. Keeping that in mind, expect the 45X to demand around Rs. 5-9 lakh after its launch in 2019.
