    If you visit Vietnam, you’ll notice that the Vingroup is pretty much involved in the most important sectors of business. It has a vast real estate empire, runs schools, colleges, and universities, has a presence in the hospitality sector, and manufactures cars and two-wheelers. Of late, one of the core focuses of the Vingroup has been on clean mobility by manufacturing only EVs and also focusing on the safety aspect. At the same time, the company has been looking to widen its horizons and tap into other markets—other than Vietnam, that is—and given how fast the Indian automotive market is growing, it made natural sense for the company to look at tapping into the Indian market and get a share of the automotive market.</p><p>

<h2>Focus on India</h2>

<p>However, as most manufacturers know, if you want to be a successful automotive manufacturer in India and target the mass market, you have to ‘Make in India.’ And VinFast officials understood that from the very start. As a result, they have inaugurated a brand-new, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in the state of Tamil Nadu to cater to the Indian market. This is VinFast’s third operational plant in the world and its first plant outside Vietnam. Spread over 400 acres, at full capacity, the plant will create 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs, adding to the Indian economy and, at the same time, expanding the horizons for the company. The plant will initially assemble the company’s two premium electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7. Production is initially starting with a capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year and is scalable up to 150,000 units.</p><p>

    </p><p>While on our visit to Vietnam, and now in India, we have had opportunities to drive both the VF 6 and VF 7 and were quite impressed with what both vehicles have to offer. Both vehicles were well-built and offer a host of features—especially ones that Indian customers value the most in today’s competitive market. And with production at VinFast’s India plant starting already, we are excited to see how their cars will fare in the Indian market. Of course, the Indian market is an extremely competitive one, but seeing how nimbly and quickly the VinFast functions as a whole, we are excited to see what they offer to Indian customers and how they adapt to the Indian market.</p><p>

While India is not the easiest of markets for any automotive manufacturer to crack, the fact that the Vingroup is making such a concentrated effort in the Indian market means that the group not only sees potential in the Indian market but also that with new manufacturers coming in, customers get increased choice, which is a win-win scenario for both.

VinFast Special Feature - Ready to Vin?

With the start of its plant in Tamil Nadu, VinFast has achieved perhaps the fastest build-up of an automotive manufacturer in India. We take a look at what makes the company so successful.

The VF 7 – the larger sibling of the VF 6 – is VinFast’s flagship vehicle in its Indian lineup. It uses the same 59.6kWh battery pack as the VF 6, but is available in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. Our test car was the all-wheel-drive variant, and honestly, it proved to be quite an impressive product that ticked a lot of the right boxes for our jury. </p><p>The VF 7’s design feels far more cohesive and premium, giving it strong road presence. Its cabin space is also well managed, allowing it to comfortably accommodate five adults. The leather-wrapped dashboard and other interior fitments feel solid and upmarket. <p>On the track, the VF 7 immediately impressed us with its power delivery and overall performance. The chassis feels balanced, and the suspension is well-tuned, making for a genuinely pleasant driving experience. This is also reflected in its commendable lap time of 1:10.6 around the short loop – quite an achievement. <p>Pricing, however, works strongly in its favour, giving the VF 7 a solid edge in terms of value for money. Ultimately, VinFast’s biggest challenge in India won’t be the product itself but establishing brand recognition and building trust, which can be quite tricky in such a competitive market.

VinFast VF 7 at autoX Awards: Best Cars of 2025 Ranked

The VinFast VF 7 impressed with strong power delivery and solid performance. Its balanced chassis and well-tuned suspension make it genuinely pleasant to drive.

    That India is one of the most challenging automotive markets in the world is not a secret, yet that hasn’t stopped new brands from trying to crack it. The reason is simple – not only is India among the largest car markets globally, but the potential for growth here in the short to medium term is enormous. It’s no surprise, then, that Vietnam’s Vin Group is making a serious attempt to claim a share of the Indian market through its automotive arm – VinFast.</p>

<p>Although relatively new to the automobile industry, VinFast has been recruiting global talent to ensure its products are good enough to appeal to customers worldwide. It’s generously equipped, with an impressive list of standard features, but the interior could use some refinement. The surface finishes and build quality, in particular, leave room for improvement.</p>

<p>In terms of driving, the VF 6 fares much better. Powered by a 59.6kWh battery, it’s offered solely in a front-wheel-drive configuration, producing 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. That said, its 2,028kg kerb weight makes it rather heavy for a car measuring just 4.24 metres in length. On the track, however, the VF 6 quickly proved that its suspension and overall driving dynamics have been tuned with care. <p>Overall, the VF 6 is a competent, well-rounded product that could benefit from a few design tweaks to make it look more SUV-like and some improvements in terms of quality.

The ratio of population versus vehicles-per-capita is still low, the market has been growing by leaps and bounds over the years and there is increasing acceptance of new brands by Indian customers. Naturally, that makes it a very attractive territory for a carmaker like VinFast which is aiming for global expansion at a rapid rate. As the fourth-largest economy in the world, and the world’s third-largest automotive market, India is a natural fit for any brand looking to expand its horizons.     </p><p>The VF 6 comes equipped with a sizable 59.6kWh battery pack, which is easily the largest battery capacity in its segment. This gives it a very promising range of 468kms (ARAI Certified), and it also comes with fast charging capability, where it charges from 10-70% in just 25 minutes. But, it’s not just the range and battery capacity that is attractive about the VF 6, as it comes loaded with features and standard equipment. Safety is, of course, a very important point of VinFast’s product philosophy and, as such, the VF 6 comes equipped with 7 airbags as standard. This is also paired with ADAS features, as well as other active and passive safety systems to make sure the VF 6 is safer than any other product in its segment.</p><p>

<h2>VF 7</h2>

<p>The VF 7 is VinFast’s flagship product in the Indian market and it seeks to reposition what affordable luxury looks like.</p><p>

    </p><p>Measuring over 4.5-metres in length, the VF 7 is being offered to Indian customers with two different battery packs and in five different variants. The benefit of the two variants is that the VF 7 is offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive drivetrains. The front-wheel drive version is offered with a 59.6kWh battery packs that gives the VF 7 the ability charge from 10-70% in just 24 minutes. This battery pack is paired to a motor with a power output of 174bhp and 250Nm of torque.</p><p>But, if it’s peak power that you are after, the larger 70.8kWh battery pack is the one for you. With the additional advantage of all-wheel drive with its dual motors in the Sky variant, the bigger battery pack produces 349bhp and 500Nm of torque, which means the all-wheel drive VF 7 can accelerate from 0-100 in just 5.8 seconds! The larger battery pack also means that the VF 7 – depending on the variant you choose – offers up to 532kms of range on a single charge in the Wind variant, while the most powerful Sky variant has a claimed range of up to 510kms.</p><p>

Public charging at V-GREEN stations will be free till July 2028, making long-distance EV use genuinely affordable. To ease range anxiety, VinFast has tied up with Global Assure to provide roadside repairs and mobile charging vans — a crucial service in a country where charging infrastructure is still maturing.</p>

<p>Long-term durability has also been addressed head-on, with vehicle warranties of up to 10 years and battery coverage for 8 years. For Indian buyers, these assurances make VinFast stand out as a brand willing to back its products with confidence.</p>

The Wind Variant employs a bigger 70.8kWh battery that boosts power to 201bhp, and 310Nm. It claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 9.5 seconds. </p><p>The Sky Variant brings a dual-motor setup and increases power output to 347bhp and 500Nm. It has a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.8 seconds.&nbsp;In terms of range,&nbsp;the ARAI-certified figures stand at 431 kilometres for the Sky variant, 438 kilometres for the Earth variant, and 532 kilometres for the Wind variant.&nbsp;</p><p>Features-wise, the VF7 offers an extensive list, including both standard and variant-specific options.     <p>Similar to its bigger sibling, the VF6 boasts futuristic styling. It has&nbsp;V-shaped LED daytime running lights&nbsp;running into the bonnet, creating&nbsp;a link to the VinFast brand logo, as well as LED projector headlights. The SUV has a coupe-like silhouette&nbsp;with a gently sloping roofline. It also has&nbsp;a chunky black plastic cladding that runs along the lower body, and 18-inch alloy wheels. VinFast is now a part of India's growing EV space, with the launch of its two highly anticipated SUVs, the VF7 and the VF6. Bookings for the cars are underway for a token amount of Rs 21,000. 

<p>Most automotive companies in the world are similar in terms of their business models. They have research and development departments, produce many of the components of their vehicles in-house and ultimately, manufacture and sell those vehicles. However, the Vin Group – Vietnam’s biggest business conglomerate by far – is a company that stand out in this aspect. <h2>Comprehensive vision</h2>

<p>When you visit Vietnam, you’ll notice that the Vin Group is pretty much is involved in the most important business sectors. They have a vast real estate empire, run schools, colleges and universities, medical schools and hospital, have a presence in the hospitality sector, and, of course, manufacture cars and two-wheelers. But, of late, one of the core focuses of the Founder and Chairman of the Vin Group – Mr. Pha.m Nhâ.t Vu’o.’ng – has been on clean mobility via manufacturing only EVs and also focusing on the safety of the occupants, making them two of the key pillars of the brand.</p><p>

    </p><p>One of the key aspects of this is their global manufacturing plant in Hai Phong which manufactures their EVs for domestic consumption and for exports, and also their dedicated EV battery plant, which caters to their battery requirements. We had the opportunity to visit the Ha Phong plant and got a detailed look at their huge facility. To be honest, the plant was absolutely cutting-edge, and featured the latest machinery from across the most acclaimed suppliers across the world and was as modern a plant as it gets. At the same time, we also got to interact with many of the engineers at the facility – who were from various nationalities including Germany, South Africa and India – and what stood out was that VinFast was not just investing in the latest technology, but also the best talent it could find from around the world.</p>

      
    
      
    


<h2>Focus on India</h2>

<p>However, as most manufacturers know, if you want to be a successful automotive manufacturer in India and target the mass market, you have to Make-in-India. And, VinFast officials understood that very early. As a result, they have just inaugurated a brand-new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in the state of Tamil Nadu to cater to the Indian market. This is VinFast’s third operational plant internationally and its first plant outside Vietnam. Spread over 400 acres, at full capacity, the plant will create 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs. The plant will initially assemble the the VF6 and VF7 premium electric SUVs. The production is initially starting with a capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year, and is scalable up to 150,000 units.</p><p>

    </p><p>While on our visit to Vietnam, we had a brief opportunity to drive both the VF6 and VF7 and were impressed with both the vehicles have to offer. Both vehicles were well-built and offered a horde of features – especially ones that Indian customers value the most in today’s competitive market. And with the production at VinFast’s India plant starting already, we are excited to see how their cars will fare in the Indian market. Of course, the Indian market is an extremely competitive one, but seeing how nimbly and quickly the VinFast group functions as a whole, we are excited to see what they offer to Indian customers and how they adapt to the Indian market.</p>

VinFast VF7, VF6 Electric SUVs India Launch on September 6

The VF7 will compete against the BYD Sealion 7 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, while its compact sibling, the VF6, will rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, the MG ZS EV, and the Tata Curvv EV. 

<p>VinFast has sparked curiosity before the official launch of its electric SUVs, the VF7 and the VF6, by filing new&nbsp;design patents for additional models. While we have already talked about the Limo Green, another car for which the patent has been filed in India is the Minio Green. Just like the Limo, the Minio Green is a commercial model and is already on sale in VinFast's home market. While the Limo Green is a three-row SUV, the Minio Green is a compact, 3-door electric hatch. It is the smallest offering in VinFast's global lineup, and, if launched in India, the hatchback will directly compete with the Comet EV in the entry-level car segment. A&nbsp;digital driver's&nbsp;display serves as the primary&nbsp;interface, showing key information, and there's no central touchscreen infotainment system. </p><p>The dashboard has a basic layout with a two-spoke steering wheel and AC vents.
