The new Volvo XC90 was launched in India during May of 2015. Prices for the SUV range between Rs. 64.90 lakh for the Momentum variant and Rs. 77.90 lakh for the Inscription variant, all prices are indicative of ex-showroom Delhi.</p>

<p>This comes as no surprise since the First Edition models of the second generation Volvo XC90, 1,927 units in number sold out in 47 hours when orders opened via e-commerce on the 3<sup>rd</sup> of September, 2014. The all-new 2015 Volvo XC90 is truly a leap forward and builds on the impeccable reputation of the original model that came to be known for its reliability and safety.</p>

<p>The new XC90 is built on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform that reduces weight while making the body shell more rigid. The vehicle features double wishbone suspension upfront and a new lateral link rear axle.</p>

<p>The India spec model is powered by a 2.0 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine developing a maximum power output of 225 bhp and 470Nm of peak torque.</p>

<p>The 2015 Volvo XC90 is designed to be a thoroughly modern offering with sleek exterior design cues. Its prominent chrome grille and LED head lamps (nicknamed Thor’s hammer by the design team) compliment the contemporary nature of the SUV. In its new avatar, the highly able XC90 SUV will get new looks, new safety features and new powertrain technology. The new XC90 will use the D5, 2.0L, four-cylinder engine&nbsp;will provide 225bhp of power and 470Nm of torque, and an automatic eight-speed gearbox will deliver these numbers to all the four wheels.</p>

<p>The T-shaped DRL headlamps, larger bonnet, sharp looking shoulders and the new rear lights give the XC90 an unmistakable look. To add more to the appeal, the customers of the XC90 will be able to choose different wheel sizes going up to 20-inches.</p>

<p>The 2015 XC90 is longer, taller and lower dimensions than the current model and will be the first all-new car to emerge under the new owners, Geely. Volvo was sold by Ford to Chinese automaker in 2010. It uses a new platform that Volvo calls Scalable Product Architecture, designed to accommodate a wide range of vehicle types.</p>

<p>Celebrating Volvo’s 87 year history, the new XC90 is the first of its cars to carry the company’s new more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille. The XC90 will have a feature that allows it to follow the car ahead of it, which Volvo says is a step toward self-driving cars.</p>

<p>The vehicle will have two new safety systems. One detects if the vehicle is running off the road and tightens occupants' seat belts. The other automatically brakes the crossover if the driver of the Volvo starts to turn in front of another car that is going quicker than expected. That's in addition to the car's other automatic braking features, covering cars, bicyclists and pedestrians, both day and night.</p>

The all-wheel drive <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/volvo/">Volvo</a> seven-seater offers 400 horsepower but with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of around 60 g/km (NEDC driving cycle). There has never been an SUV offering this level of power this cleanly.</p>

<p>The XC90 will host a variety of four cylinder engines which comes with high-tech ‘Twin Engine’ variant that allows the XC90 to “be a plug-in electric car, hybrid car and performance car rolled into one.”<br />
The new Drive-E powerplants will have petrol, diesel and hybrid options while the top variant will come with T8 plug-in hybrid with a 2.0-litre petrol four cylinder that is supercharged, turbocharged and electrically assisted. Normal driving mode is a default hybrid mode and while the two-litre Drive-E petrol engine powers the front wheels, an 80bhp electric motor drives the rear wheels. It uses the supercharger to fill in the bottom end of the power range to give the engine a naturally-aspirated feel, while the turbocharger kicks in when the airflow builds up. The electric motor on the rear wheels provides immediate torque.</p>

<p>You can go into an eco-friendly mode by a push a button. The electric motor takes over the car and this pure electric power has a range of around 40km, and when needed, it can revert back to the combined capacity of the petrol engine and electric motor, with its combined output of around 400hp and 640 Nm of torque.</p>

<p>“There are no compromises when you drive an all-new XC90,” said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development of Volvo Car Group. “In the past you could either have power or low CO2 emissions. But with the all-new XC90 you can have both.” He added, "The new XC90 offers a range of Drive-E engine options, all of which provide an outstanding combination of performance and fuel-efficiency. The main distinguishing feature of the Drive-E engine range is that they are all four-cylinder engines. With seven people in the new XC90, carbon dioxide emissions per person and kilometre are outstandingly low."</p>
