With 604bhp on tap, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate will do 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds!

As a matter of fact, station wagons or estate cars are quite popular in the European subcontinent. The reason behind that is quite simple - they are practical, comfortable, and unlike an SUV, they don’t trade their driving dynamics at the expense of space. And that's why brands like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have so many station wagons on offer in Europe.

Usually, an estate is a family man’s car that ought to be spacious and have decent performance on offer so as to lug people, luggage and one's dog around in utter comfort. But, for family men with alter ego, there’s a different breed of these station wagons available on the market – like, the bonkers Audi RS6 Avant, or this new and even madder Mercedes-AMG E 63 Estate you see in the pictures here.

The basics here are all the same as the recently launched E63 AMG sedan. This means two versions will be on offer – E63 and E63 S. Both come powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that churns out 563bhp and 750Nm of torque in the regular version. If that doesn’t float your boat then you may opt for the S version that takes the power output up to 604bhp along with 850Nm of torque! A 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system are standard.

Performance wise, the regular E63 Estate will hit 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds whereas the S will be a tenth quicker, taking just 3.5 seconds. For reference, the Audi RS6 takes 3.7 seconds to do 0-100km/h, so the E63 S Estate has got its main rival licked – at least on paper. And what’s more, there’s also a “drift” mode for oversteer obsessed masses in the Merc.

Will it be coming to India? Well, since the Audi RS6 Avant is already on sale in here, we can only hope and pray that Mercedes follows suit, and brings the new E63 AMG Estate car here.
