2020 BMW 530i Sport

The 2020 BMW 530i Sport has been launched at ₹55.40 lakh, which makes it the new base model in the 5 Series line-up. It will be sold alongside the existing 530i M Sport version.

BMW India has brought back the 530i Sport variant to the 5 Series line-up. Why brought back? Well, the 530i Sport was launched as one of the variants when the new 5 series was launched here in June 2017. However, when BMW introduced the 530i M Sport last year in March, the 530i Sport had been discontinued. However, with its re-entry, the 530i Sport takes over the 520d to become the new entry point into the 5 Series range. This is how the current 5 Series variant line-up looks like:

2020 530i Sport - ₹55.4 lakh

520d Luxury Line - ₹60.9 lakh

530i M Sport - ₹60.9 lakh

530d M Sport - ₹68.4 lakh

(All prices are ex-showroom)

Coming to the mechanical differences, there are barely any between the 530i M Sport and the new 530i Sport. Both versions are powered by a BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre (1,998cc) four-cylinder turbo petrol motor that develops 248bhp & 350Nm of torque. Even the 0-100km/h times are same at 6.1 seconds. The only thing missing in the 530i Sport is the Dynamic Damper Control (part of the M Sport package).

The bulk of the differences between the two versions are in terms of appearance & features. The 530i Sport ditches the sporty-looking elements of the M Sport package for more bits finished in chrome & high-gloss Black. Changes on the exterior of the 530i Sport also include smaller 17-inch V-spoke light-alloy wheels and the unavailability of Alpine White & Carbon Black colour options.

Inside, the 530i Sport gets Beige & Black upholstery options (without the exclusive contrast stitching), conventional non-Sport seats, a non-M Sport steering wheel and high-gloss Black interior trim (instead of Aluminium Rhombicle). In terms of features, compared to the 530i M Sport, the new 530i Sport misses out on Keyless entry, remote control parking, 360-degree surround-view camera and wireless phone charging. However, some important features like the BMW Display Key, Gesture Control, Parking Assistant (with rear-view camera), Live Cockpit Professional, ConnectedDrive and wireless Apple CarPlay are standard on the 530i Sport.

The 530i Sport gets a 205W 12-speaker HiFi audio system in exchange for the 530i M Sport's 600W 16-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.
