Mercedes-AMG will bring in two new high-performance vehicles to the country in the shape of the 2020 C 63 Coupe and GT R.

While the current Coronavirus lockdown has slowed down the entire auto industry in the country, Mercedes-Benz India will be getting back up to some speed with the launch of not just one but two AMG cars! Come May 27, 2020, Mercedes-Benz’s performance arm, Mercedes-AMG, will launch the 2020 C 63 AMG Coupe and the 2020 AMG GT R. Since social distancing is the new world order, the launch event will be digital.

Coming to the cars, the C 63 AMG needs no introduction as it’s the high-performance derivative of Mercedes’ popular C-Class saloon. Sure, the new C 43 AMG Coupe is already available in India, but the C 63 is the real deal!

Earlier, the C 63 was sold in a saloon body in India, but the latest model will come as a Coupe. Additionally, it won’t be the ‘S’ variant, but the regular model of the car. That doesn’t make it any less violent though as the standard C 63 Coupe is powered by a 4.0-litre Biturbo V8 that churns out 469bhp and 650Nm of torque. Unlike the old C 63 AMG’s 7-speed automatic gearbox though, the new version uses a 9-speed automatic. Power goes to the rear wheels and the C 63 Coupe can sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds, while top speed will be limited to 250km/h.

The 2020 AMG GT R, on the other hand, is more or less unchanged from the old car. On the design front, there are some minor changes as compared to the old model and this includes a prominent new ‘Panamericana’ grille, a new pair of LED headlamps and tail-lamps, a new rear diffuser and new tail-pipe design. Inside, it gets a new steering wheel, a new 10.2-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Powering the car will be the same 4.0-litre Biturbo V8, which is rated at 577bhp and develops 700Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and the drive is sent strictly to rear wheels. 0-100km/h can be clocked in 3.6 seconds, while the GT R is capable of reaching a top speed of 318km/h!

The Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe is expected to carry a price tag close to Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom), while the AMG GT R’s price will likely hover around the Rs 2.5 crore (ex-showroom) mark.
