2024 Honda CR-V Sport-L Trim Launched Globally, Gets Hybrid-Electric Powertrain

Honda has launched the 2024 CR-V Sport-L trim in California (the US). It is available in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. In terms of pricing, the Sport-L FWD stands at $ 36,350 (around Rs 29.95 lakh), while the Sport-L 4WD asks for $ 37,850 (around Rs 31.19 lakh). Both prices are ex-showroom. The new offering sits between the turbocharged CR-V EX-L and the top-spec Sport Touring hybrid model. The CR-V is the company's flagship SUV model that starts at $ 29,500 (around Rs 24.30 lakh, ex-showroom) for the LX (2WD) trim and goes up to $ 39,500 (around Rs 32.54 lakh, ex-showroom). Note that all the abovementioned prices are exclusive of the destination charge of $ 1,295. Honda says that the 2024 CR-V will arrive in Honda dealerships with an expanded line-up on June 14 this year, including the new hybrid-electric powered Sport-L trim.  

The Honda CR-V line-up comprises three turbocharged trims and three hybrid-powered trims. The turbocharged units include LX, EX, and EX-L, while the hybrid-powered units are Sport, new Sport-L, and Sport Touring. As per the company, the CR-V is America's best-selling SUV of the past quarter century and the best-selling Honda product since 2017. As of May 2023, Honda sold over 1.32 lakh units, a 41.4 per cent increase over the same period in 2022.

2024 Honda CR-V Sport-L Trim: Exterior, Interior

Style-wise, the new CR-V Sport-L features gloss black exterior accents, rectangular exhaust outlets, and Berlina Black 18-inch wheels. The cabin gets leather seats, power adjustment for the front passenger seat, front & rear parking sensors, and a power tailgate. Furthermore, a 9.0-inch infotainment screen with a physical volume knob, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Qi-compatible 15W wireless-charging pad, an 8-speaker audio system, and a feature of low-speed braking control also form part of the new trim level. 

Also available with the CR-V Sport-L, Honda's real-time all-wheel drive with intelligent control is claimed to offer better traction management in all driving conditions.   

2024 Honda CR-V Sport-L Trim: Drivetrain

At its heart is a hybrid powertrain that includes a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. Honda's fourth-generation hybrid system makes a combined power output of 201bhp and 335Nm of torque. The total output is claimed to deliver a fuel-efficient, sporty, and capable driving experience. 

On the other hand, the non-hybrid system with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine cranks out 187bhp of power and 243Nm of peak torque.  

2024 Honda CR-V Sport-L Trim: Price

The 2024 CR-V Sport-L is positioned between the CR-V EX-L and the top-spec Sport Touring model. In the American market, the 2024 CR-V Sport-L 2WD is available at $ 36,350 (around Rs 29.95 lakh), whereas the CR-V Sport-L AWD carries a sticker price of $ 37,850 (around Rs 31.19 lakh). Prices are ex-showroom.

According to the Japanese manufacturer, CR-V hybrid models represent a key step in the Honda electrification strategy as its hybrid-electric models, which are positioned at the top of the lineup, account for more than 50 per cent of CR-V sales.
