BMW will showcase the next-generation iX3 to the world on September 5, 2025. The SUV, built from the ground up as an EV with an advanced drivetrain and technology, will be starkly different from its standard electric counterpart based on the X3 platform. It will also be the brand's first-ever EV based on its new 'Neue Klasse' architecture. Cosmetically, the next-gen SUV is expected to borrow elements from the Vision Neue Klasse X (debuted last year in March), albeit with production-ready refinements. BMW has not made any official statement, but market rumours indicate that the new iX3 could make it to our shores sometime around next year. Here's all you need to know about BMW's first car based on the Neue Klasse platform.
The all-new iX3 will be the first BMW to feature the company’s latest sixth-generation (Gen6) electric drive system, which will offer a suite of improvements, from battery chemistry and packaging to motor performance and efficiency. It boasts new cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells, which offer around 20% more energy density than BMW’s previous prismatic cells. They are structurally integrated into the car's architecture, resulting in a body that’s lighter, stronger, and more dynamically balanced. With this, iX3 not only ensures a longer driving range, but also enhanced performance and responsiveness.

The exact battery details are still under wraps, but the iX3 claims (based on prototype testing) to go up to 800 kilometres on one charge according to WLTP standards, and even 900 kilometres on the CLTC cycle. With a 400 kW DC fast charger on board, the electric SUV is said to make recharging quicker and convenient. It is also said to gain 350 kilometres range in just 10 minutes of charging.
The BMW iX3 is said to arrive loaded with cutting-edge features, including a panoramic display that stretches across the base of the windshield and a 3D head-up display.
