⁠2025 Honda Civic Breaks Cover, Gets Hybrid Variant with Claimed 21.3Km/l Mileage

Almost ten years have passed since Honda last marketed a Civic hybrid. Following the discontinuation of the model in 2015, the carmaker introduced the Insight hybrid, which served like an electric Civic save for its name. However, Honda pulled the plug on the production of the Insight in 2022. Now, the company has reintroduced the Civic for the 2025 model year due to people's growing interest in hybrids. Honda unveiled the revamped Civic in two bodystyles: hatchback and sedan. While the mid-cycle revamp includes several fresh updates, the most significant is the return of a hybrid variant in the model lineup.

2025 Honda Civic: Mechanical Details

The hybrid drivetrain of the new Civic is a tweaked version of the Accord's, with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors. Honda anticipates that the hybrid Civic will produce 197bhp and 315Nm of torque. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 156bhp is still available in the non-hybrid LX and Sport variants; the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 177.5bhp has been discontinued. Moreover, the manual option that was once offered on the Sport and Sport Touring hatchbacks is no longer available. Although the EPA has not yet certified the Civic Hybrid, Honda states that the car could deliver about 21.3km/l.

Four regenerative braking levels are also available on the 2025 Honda Civic hybrid, and they are operated by selector paddles on the steering wheel. By adjusting brake regen, one can simulate a downshift, causing the car to slow down more quickly when the accelerator is released. Additionally, Honda's Linear Shift Control mimics the effect of gearshift changes in tandem with throttle pedal application, as the two-motor hybrid system essentially does without a conventional transmission. 

Apart from a hybrid-specific tyre and standard Active Noise Control, the hybrid models also come with special spring and damper tuning. Wheel resonators are standard on Sport Touring Hybrid trim levels, helping to dampen road noise.

2025 Honda Civic: Exterior Elements

Three years after the 11th generation's debut, the instantly recognisable Civic takes on a sportier look. The updated bumper intakes and grille are similar to the Civic RS prototype that debuted at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon. The body-coloured garnish surrounding the headlights and on the front splitter distinguish the hybrid versions. Other aesthetic changes comprise the Sport Touring Hybrid's machine-finished 18-inch wheels, the sedan's dark-tinted taillights, and four new paint jobs: Dark Blue Lagoon, Sand Dune Pearl, Solar Silver Metallic, and Urban Gray Pearl.

2025 Honda Civic: Interior and Features

When it comes to the cabin, the hybrid models stand out due to their exclusive Grey interior theme. Standard features like a sunroof, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate controls—which are absent from lesser trim levels—are added to the Sport Hybrid along with dual-pane glass for noise reduction. Upgrading to the Sport Touring Hybrid allows you to access a larger 9.0-inch infotainment display with built-in Google support, as well as a 12-speaker Bose system. The infotainment unit also offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2025 Honda Civic: Launch Timeline

The sedan version of the 2025 Civic will start arriving in US dealerships in June, with the hatchback following later in the summer. The new Honda Civic Hybrid's price will be revealed later, but it is anticipated to start under USD 30,000 (about Rs 24.97 lakh).
