WCOTY winners across all categories are finally out, and the Firefly has won the title of World Urban Car for 2026. The announcement at the New York International Auto Show also highlighted other winners, including the iX3, which took home both the World Electric Car and the overall World Car of the Year awards. For Nio and the Firefly, the win is more special, as it marks their first-ever World Car Award victory. It also represents the rising importance of compact EVs, with smart design, cutting-edge technology, and real-world usability.
Cars vying for the World Urban Car title must comply with stringent parameters to qualify. They are required to have an annual production of at least 5,000 units. Moreover, they should be “on-sale” in a minimum of two key markets across two different continents, such as Europe, China, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, or the USA, between January 1, 2025, and March 30, 2026.
