Bharat Mobility Expo 2025: Mercedes-Benz India has unveiled the Concept CLA Class at the auto show. Initially revealed in September 2023, the concept car will serve as the foundation for the upcoming generation of the CLA Class, which will be available in both combustion and EV variants. The model is built on the Mercedes-Benz’s Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. The electric version is expected to feature battery packs of up to 85kWh, with a rear-mounted motor delivering up to 268bhp. The German carmaker claims a driving range exceeding 750 km for this EV. For the petrol variant, the CLA will be equipped with a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, available in three power outputs: 134bhp, 161bhp, and 188bhp.

The all-electric successor to the CLA retains design elements from earlier CLA models but incorporates more advanced technology, particularly in its lighting. Notable changes are seen in the car’s elongated bonnet and imposing grille, which features a lower black panel with an illuminated Mercedes emblem, similar to the design cues found on the Mercedes-AMG SL roadster and GT sports car. Additionally, the concept car showcases a constellation of illuminated stars, enhancing its jewellery-like appearance.

Other design highlights include full-width LED lighting, star-shaped headlamps, a sleek glasshouse, flared fenders, frameless doors, and a coupe-style roofline that seamlessly flows into the notchback boot lid. The rear also boasts a full-width wraparound light bar, completing the striking aesthetic.

Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA: Battery and Power Details

The CLA features a powertrain drawn from the Vision EQXX concept, promising a range of 750 km on a single charge with a consumption rate of 12kWh/100 km. Mercedes dubs it the "one-litre car for the electric era," a term used for cars that consume less than 1 litre of fuel per 100 km. This model is built on an 800V architecture, supporting 250 kW DC fast charging that can add 400 km of range in just 15 minutes.

The CLA offers two types of battery chemistries: a lithium-iron-phosphate option for entry variants and a more advanced silicon-oxide anode design. The battery powers a 231bhp PSM motor coupled with a 2-speed transmission, driving the rear wheels. Thanks to the flexible architecture, all-wheel drive configurations are also possible.

Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA: Interior and Features

The interior of the Concept CLA Class, much like the Vision EQXX, incorporates sustainable materials alongside a cutting-edge MBUX Superscreen, which operates on the new MB.OS platform. This Superscreen infotainment setup features three separate displays: an instrument cluster and two touchscreens, one located in the centre and the other for the passenger. The screens are flanked by virtual air vents resembling Mercedes' signature turbine design, with integrated physical controls, merging digital and analogue elements.

The seats are finished in Nappa leather with a silver and white colour scheme, while cool blue and violet ambient lighting adds a touch of exclusivity. Other highlights include a floating centre armrest with a cupholder and wireless charger, bamboo floor mats, and satin silver door handles.

In terms of safety, the model has an advanced Child Presence Detection (CPD) system designed to minimise the chances of children being accidentally left in the vehicle during hot weather. Initially, the vehicle will meet Level 2 Driving Automation standards according to SAE guidelines, with the possibility of receiving over-the-air updates in the future.
