BMW India has quietly rejigged the i7 lineup. Gone is the i7 Xdrive60 variant, replaced by the new i7 eDrive50 costing Rs 2.03 crore (ex-showroom). This makes the i7 all-electric luxury sedan around Rs 10 lakh more affordable. The BMW i7 was earlier priced from Rs 2.13 crore (ex-showroom) for the discontinued Xdrive60. The new i7 eDrive50 variant is nearly identical to its predecessor, save for the spare wheel. Outside, it has a large kidney grille, sharp crystal LED headlamps, flush-fitting door handles, slim LED taillamps, and a two-tone exterior paint finish. It is offered in the M Sport variant featuring M-specific elements such as side skirts, outside rearview mirrors, and 21-inch M Star-spoke style wheels.

Inside too, the new BMW i7 eDrive50 offers the same features including a 3-spoke M Walknappa leather steering wheel, a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen for rear-seat passengers, and a Bowers and Wilkins sound system. The leather upholstery is available in five colours.

BMW i7 eDrive50: Battery, Output

BMW India initially offered the i7 in a single xDrive60 variant – offered with two electric motors and a 101.7kWh lithium-ion battery. While the eDrive50 uses the same 101.7kWh battery, it gets a single-motor arrangement that powers the rear wheels. With 443bhp and 650Nm of peak torque, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds. On a single charge, the i7 eDrive50 can drive up to 603 kilometres, down by 625 kilometres in the xDrive60.

The BMW i7 eDrive50 can be charged up to 11kW on an AC system and up to 195kW on a DC system. The former is said to charge the battery from 0 to 100 per cent in 10 hours and 45 minutes, while the latter takes a claimed 34 minutes for a 10 to 80 per cent charge.

The BMW i7 also comes in a top-spec M70 xDrive variant, which is priced at Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom) and can be had with a dual-motor setup – one motor generating 254bhp at the front axle and the other supplying 483bhp at the rear. Combined, they develop 650bhp and 1,015Nm. The car goes from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and has an electronically regulated top speed of 250km/h. The same 101.7kWh battery yields a range of 560km on a single charge.

The safety suite consists of cornering brake control, ABS with EBD, 3-point seatbelts for each passenger, seven airbags, dynamic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features like lane change warning, blind spot assistance, and rear crossing traffic warning. In terms of market competition, the i7 rivals the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580, Porsche Taycan, and the Audi e-tron GT, among others.
