BMW has released a teaser video to subtly remind us that a new boss is coming.

While many spy pictures of the test mule are circulating on the Internet for quite some time, BMW has now officially released a teaser video to remind us that the all-new flagship SUV is on its way from Bavaria.

BMW has been testing the X7 around the world, and the final production model is said to be revealed at the LA Auto Show in November. While the world recognises it as an SUV, BMW prefers the term ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’ or SAV instead.

BMW X7 Teaser Video Desert

In the released video, the BMW X7 can be seen driving through city streets and along highways, canyon roads in addition to carving out its own path through the snow and desert. While the vehicle is still draped in camouflage, it is now quite evident of what the final styling is going to look like. The oversized kidney grille, flanked by narrow headlamps, an upright front end and a colossal front bumper together will give it that butch look to set itself apart from the old boss – BMW X5.

The BMW X7 is based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform that incorporates the use of steel, aluminium and carbon fibre. While BMW has managed to keep the design of the interior a secret, it is most likely to borrow some design cues from the recently revived 8 Series. BMW is expected to offer the X7 in a combination of six or seven-seat configurations. The car would be powered by twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, mated to an 8-speed ZF transmission. There is a possibility of a diesel as well.

The X7 is designed to compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLS, the Lexus LX, the Bentley Bentayga and the full-blown Range Rover.
