Bmw X2

The coupe version of the BMW X1 will be making its first public appearance at the 2016 Paris Motor Show sporting the new X2 moniker.

Filling in niches within segments seems to be the current state of affairs for the automobile industry and BMW will be taking yet another stab at it with the upcoming new X2 slotted in as a compact luxury SUV Coupe. The BMW X6 kick started the concept of an SUV coupe in 2008. The new BMW X2 is based on the same Mini platform that underpins the X1 model and is essentially the same car underneath. However, for the purposes of marketing and appealing to a different set of customers, the X2 will have a roofline that will have more curved lines. Although, the front of the car is expected to look much the same as that of the X1, the side profile of the car will become more tapered from the B-pillar onwards to accommodate the new styling.

Like the second generation BMW X1, the new X2 will also be available with a choice of three cylinder and four cylinder petrol engines. Gearbox options will include a six-speed manual gearbox for international markets and an eight-speed automatic transmission as well. Although the new X1 is offered with front-wheel drive now while higher end variants come with all-wheel drive. The BMW X2 too will be offered with the same range of powertrain options as the X1.

BMW will officially premier the new X2 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show which begins on the 29th of September. The market launch of the BMW X2 is likely to take place in early 2017 and the vehicle is expected to be priced closer to the BMW X3. BMW will manufacture the X2 at its Regensburg plant in Germany.
