The Brazil-manufactured Citroen Basalt has received a zero-star safety rating in the latest Latin NCAP crash tests. This completely contrasts with its India-spec version, which earned 4 stars under Bharat NCAP. In recent Latin NCAP safety tests, the Brazilian-spec Basalt scored less across multiple safety categories despite offering four airbags and ESC as standard. It achieved just 39.37% for Adult Occupant Protection, 58.35% for Child Occupant Safety, 53.38% in Pedestrian Protection, and 34.88% in Safety Assist. According to Latin NCAP’s crash tests, the model lacks key safety features such as side head airbags and ADAS, which aren’t even offered as add-ons.
The car was put through a range of tests, including frontal and side crashes, whiplash protection, pedestrian safety, and how well the electronic stability control (ESC) works. The SUV Coupe did not undergo the side pole impact test because it lacks side head protection, which led to a zero score in that area.

The frontal crash revealed some serious structural issues, and the passenger’s seatbelt pretensioner failed to work properly, offering weak chest protection. When it comes to child safety, the testing agency disclosed that the dummy representing a three-year-old struck its head against the car’s interior, causing the head protection rating to drop to zero. Moreover, the airbag deactivation switch was also absent. On top of that, the seatbelt reminder only alerts the driver and does not meet Latin NCAP’s safety standards.

The Citroen Basalt was crash-tested by the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) in October last year, and it earned a 4-star safety rating for both adult and child occupants. The India-spec Basalt's safety features include six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX mounts, hill hold control, and 3-point seat belts for all seats as standard. It incorporates high-strength materials like Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) to effectively absorb impacts from the front and sides, minimising cabin intrusion and enhancing passenger safety. In Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), the SUV Coupe scored 26.19 points out of 32. For Child Occupant Protection (COP), it scored 35.90 points out of 49.
