Citroen has introduced the new Basalt X range in India, giving its coupe-style SUV a refreshed line-up. The ‘X’ badge denotes this as a special edition, bringing in added equipment and revised pricing. Prices now start at Rs 7.95 lakh (ex-showroom), with bookings having opened on 22 August for a token amount of Rs 11,000. Alongside this launch, Citroen has also reduced prices on the standard Basalt models, making the SUV more attractive to buyers.

The headline addition is the Basalt X Max, which debuts Citroen’s in-car assistant, ‘Cara’. This AI-based system can track flights, map out routes according to schedules, monitor the vehicle’s health, and manage music, calls, SOS alerts, and reminders. ‘Cara’ is offered exclusively with the automatic versions of the X Max, giving Citroen a distinct edge in a crowded segment.
The Basalt X range also gains cosmetic and feature upgrades. Exterior changes include a matte black finish, while the cabin gets a black-and-brown dual-tone layout with leatherette seats and bronze accents.

New equipment includes push-button start, cruise control, and keyless entry, with options such as a 360-degree camera, wireless phone mirroring, and an auto-dimming interior mirror available.

Safety remains a strong suit for the Basalt X. The SUV comes fitted with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and hill-hold assist. It has already secured a 4-star rating in the 2024 BN-CAP crash tests, which will reassure safety-conscious buyers.
Mechanically, there are no changes. Power comes from a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 110bhp, offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes. Entry-level variants continue with an 82bhp petrol unit paired to a 5-speed manual.
