More than 6.3 lakh units of the Honda City sold across four generations

The Honda City has been a popular choice for anyone looking to make a purchase in the C-segment sedan category. Sales of this current generation have been consistent since its launch in January 2014, and now, the car has crossed the 2 lakh unit sales milestone. The City registered sales of 2,00,098 units towards the end of August, 32 months since its launch, making it the fastest car in its class to achieve the feat.

The Japanese car maker first introduced the City in India in January 1998 and soon enough the car made it into the hearts of C-segment buyers. The City has been one of the most successful models for Honda since then and has so far registered sales of over 6.3 lakh units.

Talking about the success of the Honda City in India, Yoichiro Ueno, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd said, “The Honda City is a much loved brand in India and has been the most crucial part of Honda’s success in the country by cumulatively bringing in more than 6.3 lakh customers to the Honda family. Continuously re-inventing itself, each generation of the Honda City has brought in new technologies and offered new value to enthral the customers, becoming benchmark for quality and trust.  We are extremely proud of reaching the new milestone of 2 lakh sales of the current generation of City and are confident that it will continue to put up a strong performance in future too.”

In its fourth generation, the current City comes with petrol as well as diesel engine options. The fourth generation City was the first to get a diesel mill when it was launched in January 2014. The City has successfully bagged the top spot in the JD Power Initial Quality Study 14 times since its launch in the Indian market. This fourth generation City has consistently been the highest selling model for Honda. Last month, the City registered sales of 4,255 units.
